I still generally think the armor in Halo 4-5 were better

The helmets slowly gotten uglier and the graphics made it look like cardboard. But the design on each armor set was always different from the head to foot. They didn’t need armor cores to look different and each Spartan IV rocked a unique chest, forearm, legging design.

In Infinite, the overall set design is the same and you’re just adding these attachments that barely coat the armor. Its not as detailed as the previous.

You mean like the 10% of the Armor in 4-5 looked Nice while the rest looked completely weird & impracticable?

10% is all you need baby. That 10% is different to everyone I imagine.

I think pump out a lot so something appeals to everyone. I liked my Spartan’s look in H5 but dislike most the armour ha. In H4 I went the safe route with Mk VI.

I’m still waiting for that perfect armour in Infinite.

I hate artstyle from 4 and 5 period. They don’t look like armor, they look like foam armor and swimming float rings. Both games’ armors also exposes way too much of the neck as well, making all the players look like they are elongated stick men.

Some of the worst don’t even have crotch protection, so it looks like you are wearing 2 floats on each thigh. And finally, the back portion of all Halo 4 armors on launch (not counting later MCC additions) all look like the 2 generator pylons are slapped onto the back instead of you know, being part of the armor suite.

They also have some major “body type shrink” going on for Female and Male body types. The Male body types fill the armor up well, but the Female body types all look like they are emaciated, which is not a good look. Especially the shoulders. God the Shoulders. I had to find some good, covering shoulders to prevent my Spartan from looking like they haven’t eaten in a month.

I remember liking Halo 4’s armor at first because it was new and alien, but now I’m glad that they went back to a more utilitarian design. Halo 5’s armor was starting to look way too anime character for me.

I prefer the original designs. 4-5 was just too flashy and…texturized, I guess? Original/current designs just have that solid, rugged look of how I think power armor should be.

Well everyone has their own likes and opinions, 4/5 had some interesting models and werent too bad but for the majority i didnt like it.

For me personally it needs to be functional, look realistic (metal not plastic) and not some wacky thing. I get its a game but i still like it to look a certain why

Better than the homeless spartan look we are getting now.

But it makes sense, since Spartans also operate behind enemy lines for long periods and they have to repair their armour somehow. Then you get that look.

It makes way more sense then for instance the football-armour we got for H4 in MCC. I mean what is the meaning behind that? They just picked someone of the footballfield and put them on the battlefield as an Spartan?

I kinda liked how that football armour looked, don’t get me wrong. But lore wise it’s way less sound then the ‘homeless spartan look’.

Spartans are super soldiers, not super heroes. Soldiers have to deal with stuff like logistics and logistics has to concern itself with how easy it is to manufacture 7416 cosmetically different versions of bleeding edge space marine armour: They can’t. Tony Stark can make his armour look like whatever the hell he wants to because he only needs to make it for himself and perhaps a few close friends, and also he’s a genius billionaire who builds things for fun. Spartans are part of the military, funded by taxes; they have to do things as cheap as they can. If anything, it’s already a bit too much of a stretch that we already have so many different kinds of helmets in Reach. Post war spartans have some leeway since the spartans IVs are expanding so much and they might want some of their equipment manufactured on different planets with different factories and companies, although politics and the need for military secrecy would really curtail how wild that can go, since the last thing the UNSC wants is for Innies to start manufacturing their own spartans.

The crotch protection’s silly though. The Halo 4/5 era did good to get rid of it. The glove redesign had some merit to it I’m told I would try armour skirts like the ancient Greeks or Samurai.

impractical? halo 3 's armor were impractical. you could barely move because of the chest piece, shoulders, cod piece, legs. your range of motion was severely limited. the whole point of chief’s new armor was to be more realistic and give a greater range of motion than previous iterations and it was!

i think it’s time to take off the nostalgia goggles.

This is a personal taste question, and I sympathize with those who prefer the GEN2 platform from H4 and 5 (because they’re now where I was when those games came out, lamenting the departure from their preferred design). That said, I personally love Infinite’s core armor design aesthetic.

Your point about some of the additional modularity around full arms and legs being different is fair, but I like the core approach more because it gives each platform its own solid identity. It’s a bit of a case of “less is more” for me, as the various shoulder/knee/glove etc attachments stand out more when they’re accenting a more identifiable core.

As for the helmets, Infinite stands head and shoulders above the vast, vast majority of what we saw in H4-5 too (again, IMO). I felt that the design prerogative got really overcomplicated and resulted in a lot of helmets that look way too busy in those games. There were some notable exceptions (Recruit, Aviator, Soldier, Warrior, GEN2 Scout/Recon, etc- many of which are back in Infinite!), but I personally feel that the majority of helmets looked pretty bad.

On the bright side, if I were a fan of the GEN2 platform, I’d take heart! Odds are, we’ll be seeing that armor core come back eventually in Infinite and fans of it will have another opportunity to rock it.

I agree that Halo 4 had a better selection of unique pieces. I won’t say that they were better because the art style was different than the standard classic art style we were used to. Also not saying that it was terrible because I did like some of the new armor just not all. I really loved the redesign for the Scout helmet and have continued to use that helmet ever since. At least until now where the Scout helmet has been locked behind a paywall in a bundle.

But to go back to what I was originally saying, yes Halo 4 had better individualized Spartan customization and player expression. Joe cat did a video on this a few years ago and he’s right on the money. Most people may not like the Gen 2 art style but virtually no one can argue against the pure uniqueness of each Spartan and the options available for customization. You have the helmet, visor, each shoulder, chest, arms and legs. The customization has never been as unique ever since.

Heck 343 shot themselves in the foot with five when they restricted customization to your helmet, visor and an armor set, but at least you could still pick your freaking colors.

But I think out of all of the Halo games I’ve never seen as many unique Spartans as what Halo 4 had.

Sorry, everyone wanted reach customization
That means gluing things on the armor.
Id much prefer a halo 3 take to at least the shoulders where they look completely different, and cover much more, meaning their designs, while just added, still look like they serve more purpose and are integrated more into the arms rather than just thrown on.

Chestpieces were usually just attachments but things like recon chestpiece should be the goal, it barely takes up space so it looks like a whole brand new chestpiece.

I just want Achilles back. Idgaf if it’s through challenges, achievements, rank grinding, or shop. Just give me my damn armor.

Weird and impracticle? We got a helmets in this game that have design marks that are impractical, only to make it look cooler.

Its the details that matter.

At least you can tell the difference between a man and woman in game. Some would even appreciate the design. I don’t know whats the problem with it. Look at it less like armor, but more of a suit. I don’t know whats with this community wanting to look like an edgy fully coated heavy military machine monster all the time. Even the armor represented in Halo 3 MCC covered you up but people still mad because it wasn’t that modern Halo look–?

Thank you, but one thing is that they plan on getting rid of the armor cores, so I’m sorry that you enjoy something that is already planning to change.

I like the halo 5 armor a lot. You can combine Visor, Helmet, Body and dont forget: you can chose the color(s) you want.

I see what you are saying, but the new armor almost doesn’t seem like Mjolnir because it looks so thrown together. It looks like something an everyday soldier would wear not a Spartan.
