I thought it was easily located on this very site but can’t find it. It’s on the 343 twitter though I think.
Essentially he said:
I haven’t heard people round the studio saying “yeah let’s screw over the player with swaps”.
All that really means is no one said those exact words. It’s a strawman to try and deflect from the fact that they literally created a problem from nothing, solely so they could sell us the solution…otherwise the swaps just wouldn’t exist.
As soon as people run out of free ones, they are funnelled into buying more with real money.
They orignally werent, it wasnt until we pitched a fit they decided to add more. Also im tired of the excuse that “its just a beta” or “its free”. We all know betas arent what they used to be. No more than ever theyre just a playable trailer to generate hype and encourage preorders. I alos cant think of a time when beta’s had massive changes other than adjusting a weapon or changing the way a model looked (BF3 medic). They even said that this is the same game we’re getting tomorrow. Stop making excuses for bad business practices.
I would be fine with you complaining if you actually saw the REAL GAME in a couple of days, and not complaining over the -Yoink!- beta. You are all being annoying.
I read what you said, and again, it’s a beta. There are things that will be changed. You just think your opinion is the only opinion. I can nearly guarantee you’re under 25, it’s what you kids do now. Complain. Constantly. Then when things aren’t changed to your specific view, you complain some more.
So tomorrow when the game isn’t any different are you magically going to be upset that it “launched” this way, or will your excuses for them change? Just curious?
Yeah, a business, not a compnay that is in business to make money above all is going to tell the “truth”. All anyone has to do is look at how ( Barbone ) the game is releasing and that list is freaking huge, with the dumb decision to make the MP f2p so they could milk the player base for cosmetics.
Nah, none of this was done deliberately, it was out of the kindness of their heart.
No I think he’s telling the truth. I think they designed it in a bubble, and didn’t see the real dangers the system posed until it was out in the wild. This same thing happened when they designed the system for H4 and monetized the XP with 3rd party promos and you had people level boosting faster than 343 anticipated and it threw off progression, since all they had to do was go to a store an take pics of the bags of doritos.
I wrote it somewhere already, but I strongly believe that MP was not planned and designed as F2P title.
But after WZ success and perhaps also COD mobile success someone saw huge dolars going their way and forced the team to rework it and this is what they come up with in some short term.
What imho supports my theory is the video where they showcased deep customization and unlocks obtained by playing the game… imho at that time it was still planned as paid part of campaign.
I could be wrong but half thought monetization model and that video really makes me believe that this is “last minute” change. And I feel dev team is upset about it as well.
