I Spent £1200 Due to My Infinite Anticipation, Am I a Fool?

How gaming has been handled for the last 7 years, pre-ordering, buying from the shop or even expecting the games these day to be a working product is foolish for anyone.

This is literally 343 3rd strike with the Halo title. They have nothing to offer anymore, and their actions literally prove it.

You have my condolences.
I was in a similar position, and Im so glad i didnt upgrade or buy anything for infinite.
No high end pc with gaming monitor, new headset, etc.
And I didnt pay a ridiculous scalper price for a new console, along with a new lg tv.
Have the money, couldnt justify spending it for one game.
Waited it out to see how it would play on the xbox one.
I also kind of dont trust 343 after the original launch of MCC.

I got luckier than my friends that night. I was holding off on getting an xbox one back then because no one was playing halo 4.
Had the money in cash release night to buy it the next morning if mcc rocked as hard as we expected.
So i just lost 2 weeks of vacation back then.
But i had friends return their new xbox ones after the original mcc release, and most haven’t returned at all.

You seem like a fool but at least you’re willing to consider the possibility. I am personally well off, but blindly spending against a title just because you had enjoyed it in the past is a logical fallacy we have as humans and one which corporations exploit madly. But yet something I learned years ago in a similar manner as you. Mistakes just force us to revaluate our behavior and correct for the future. I personally do not invest unless I see a product moving in a direction I support, first and foremost regardless of the fact that I’ve loved Halo growing up. Just my two cents

For real this was their make or break game, and they still flopped. I don’t understand them , are they purposely setting out to mess up and miss the mark on so many things.

Like if we tell 343 we want the color yellow… they will respond with we hear the feedback so here we made you the color Purple… And we went ahead and removed this feature that no asked for and potentially may break the game ok enjoy.

Also they haven’t even given any update on Co Op campaign. I don’t even play it anymlre. I already beat it on legendary soooo not much else for me to do there. Not like they have challenges In the campaign that reward players for completing them.

But I still don’t get how they didn’t have a Co op ready for such a simplistic campaign game mechanic.
Like every other semi and full open world game easily had a co op mode.
But 343 seems to have trouble with such a default mode.
My guess is they never even had co op intended for the game, they just scrapped together a quick campaign idea pit it together sprinkled a few lockers around and said eh that will work. Who needs co op.

I believe they are so they can manipulate their new model to keep building this game around it.

All the nonsense 343 is pulling right now is the same nonsense other “live service game” have pulled, but the major problem here is, 343 hasn’t offered anything but this beta. Actual f2p games in terms of content makes it look like 343 is ripping off the player base.

Nah, as long as you are passionate about it. I have spent thousands of dollars on Halo over the years between games, consoles, clothes, and collectables. Heck I even have one of the rare Evike Halo AR airsoft guns that cost me $700 but it is very cool, it is probably one of the ultimate collectable as there was a limited number made. But anyways… Infinite has plenty of potential. I think it will get to be a great game eventually. 343’s track record with Halo on Xbox one is it takes them awhile to get the games great. Took them years with MCC and H5 wasn’t a great game until the first BTB refresh really. So given some time Infinite maybe great one day… Probably never as great as MCC though, IMO…

If you can afford it, enjoy it!
Without feeling guilty, just enjoy it!
And besides, the new xbox and the peripherals you have gathered will allow you to enjoy other games as well.

I have very similar feelings to yourself. I thought Halo Infinite was going to be amazing and would be the game that all my friends play with every night…it started out like that at the beginning, but 2 months down the line and we couldn’t be any further away from the truth in reality.

For Christmas, I decided to treat myself to an XSX (£450), an LG 1440p monitor (£350) and Gamespass for 3 years (£100)…in total I spent £900 with the main reason being Halo Infinite. I didn’t have to do this as I had a perfectly fine Xbox One X and 1080p monitor but I wanted to have the best experience I could playing Halo Infinite.

It just so happens that my XSX started shutting itself down whilst playing Halo Infinite so that has been sent back and I’ve received a full refund. I’m now playing Halo Infinite on my old Xbox One X on my new LG monitor and I can honestly say that I don’t see any difference other than the much slower loading times. As such, I don’t feel the need to spend the £450 on buying myself another XSX as the game has not met my expectations and it plays equally as good and definitely more stable on my old console.

Honestly kinda getting tired of oh just wait 3 years and the game will be great, guess that’s the new acceptable standard for games.

Maybe 343 will be able to launch a game and actually get it right out of the gate.

If it was money meant to be spent, set aside from savings or other funds? It’s only as foolish as you envision it. I personally don’t think it was foolish.

Hey man, I didn’t buy abunch of stuff for skin codes, but I did buy a $200 dollar controller just so I could jump, switch weapons, and crouch without taking my thumbs off the sticks. It’s your money man

I definitely feel like we were all fooled. I knew fully well going into it that the game wouldn’t live up to expectations. I was excited after 2018 reveal, but from discover hope to the 2020 reveal my excitement was squashed. I really wanted it to come out well so I tried to get enthusiastic but I knew from the launch trailer and whatnot that it was going to be cheesy, bad, incomplete.

I still bought the xbox series x just to play this game. Not only was it fairly underwhelming, but after a month the xbox just bricked. Never will I fall into that trap again.

That’s pretty much my experience too. Sent my XSX back for a full refund and now playing on my old Xbox One X…I don’t feel any urge to justify spending the £450 again on another XSX.

Every time I go buy anything I go to youtube and check out the reviews. I don’t care if it’s a TV or computer equipment not even a video game. So I suggest you check out the videos that has been stated about this game and other games in the future. :metal:

Talking about money, don’t get me wrong, I love halo, I love infinite, I could play ranked on one map forever hah… but between the campaign and the store I have spent USD 200 + (happily and would gladly spend more, love to support) and then the 2/3 update happens and I now get horrible desync, unplayable, the game is broken… how is that even legal hah, I expected to be able to play a game with the skins I bought… This doesn’t even account for when I thought the problem was on my end, bought a new Xbox upgraded to gig internet, only to find out this was a server problem… Again, don’t get me wrong I am sure the team is trying their best, but let’s get it together! I hope to get back into a functioning game soon and hang with my friends in the halo world.

For the simplest answer yes you are

I doubt it will be three years but 343 isn’t the only studio right now releasing stripped down games in the name of “new content” later. Sadly that is the direction games have been going for awhile. The only game to wow me on Xbox one has been RDR2. What I think has happened is late in the Xbox 360 life when games really started generating a ton of money people who don’t really care for making quality games get involved because they just want the money. Now it seems they are like just how little can we do and still make a ton of money. I hope season 2 is going to be better, hopefully bring some better maps or something. I just wish more would come back to MCC. It is the better Halo game, tons of content and features, features people want in infinite, like choosing between AR and BR starts in social and input based matchmaking. But I doubt MCC will ever get over the “it’s broke” reputation since it took way to long to fix…it’s “old” by game standards.

OP you are not a fool to really care about Halo. It’s your money and you can spend it how you please.

Yes £1,200 could be seen as a lot to spend but it’s not like all of that money was just on Halo Infinite, your console, your accessories can all be used for a huge catalogue of games.
