I Spent £1200 Due to My Infinite Anticipation, Am I a Fool?

First things first I’m not here to rant or start a hate thread. I can’t decide whether I’ve been fooled or not, as in the run up to Infinite there were many promises about customisation and gameplay that I don’t feel have yet been realised. I ended up buying all of the Halo Razer peripherals, plus the limited edition Series X and also the Series 2 Elite controller, the steelbook of the game and the premium pass, but no other add ons. (If I’m allowed, please advise, I’ll share a pic of my great collection!)

I absolutely love Halo, and honestly I don’t think Infinite is a terrible game. Granted it took me a month to finish the campaign, when even with Halo 4 I finished the campaign multiple times in the first week, but I still enjoyed what I played. My only real issue with campaign (I loved the story) was the lack of real set piece fights, like the Scarab fights or taking down the Kraken.

Yet when it comes to multiplayer, the experience I’m used to, and even the experience I was told I’d be getting, just doesn’t exist outside of MCC. A sad point on this is that my partner rarely plays Infinite with me because she can’t be purple, something so simple but just ridiculous to have as an omission. I’ve never felt such a lack of interest in playing a new Halo multiplayer, and I’m already at the point where I’m more or less done with it, having completed the battle pass.

Considering all the money I spent in the build up to release, I’m starting to feel a bit foolish, and I’m just happy most of my new Halo peripherals are simply Halo or 117 branded and not Infinite. More than anything I want someone from 343i to see this post, and appreciate the investment some of us had made based on the promises that were made, especially around customisation, and to try make good on those promises.

I don’t want to give up on Infinite, especially after all the money I’ve spent in anticipation of it, but I’m just not compelled to play it anymore.

Note. I realise I’m in a privileged position, I have a good steady job and can afford to spend money on these things. I do realise it’s my own fault if this money is wasted, but I have an extensive collection and was always going to splash out for the first major release in 6 years. I just hope promises are delivered on for those of us with serious investment in the franchise. And that does not extend to MXTs, I have purchased the premium battle pass and nothing else, and I don’t think I will be purchasing further ones.

Edit: I also got the Halo Infinite Assault Rifle and Bulldog NERF guns. The more I think about it the more I realise I’ve spent.

No, no… Not foolish. Just excited and enthusiastic.

I do think it’ll be worth it eventually and I honestly feel bad that you went through this. I hope this game gets better for you and your partner.

If you enjoy Halo as a brand and visuals then I wouldn’t call you a fool. There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about it if it brings you happiness. Plus at least it is generalized, usable merchandise rather than say, digital goods only applicable to Infinite itself.

That’s something that gives me solace, I’ve never had a headset that cost more than £50, same with a keyboard and my gaming mouse was like £20, now I have some genuinely great, high end peripherals that are master chief branded. Glad to know others feel the same :+1:t3:

I feel like this is a generous characterisation lol, thankyou. I also hope things will change for the better, just hoped as a live service game, the response and support would be more… lively haha

You couldn’t have known a game with 6 years in the making would come out so incomplete that most people leave in 2 months. I thought Infinite would be incredibly popular, the next best game… and here we are.

It’s unfortunate. Your Halo gear is still cool though! Also, buy your lady the Opi nail polish and give her the sparkly purple/blue skin that comes with it. She will love it!

I thought it was going to be about day 1 purchases if MTXs.

You got a lot of hardware which are in themselves quite rare even as normal products.
Disregarding that they are Halo themed I’d say you got a lot of good peripherals out of those purchases?

Well, I think it would be a bigger problem if you spent money that wasn’t wise to spend. Sounds like you’re fine in that regard so that’s good.

I’ve been there myself at least once. There have been games and game hardware that I’ve bought in the past that have stung me in retrospect. The stuff you got was made for fans in the same way sports merchandise is targeted towards people. It’s up to you if that price tag was too high or if you later decide it was a bad choice. We never really stop changing, it sounds like this whole experience is making you reflect on why you did what you did. That’s a positive note.

I think it’s cool that you got the merchandise. It’s much more meaningful and longer-lasting than something from the in-game shop. You’re always paying extra for the brand but it’s nice to hear that the quality met par.

It’s crazy. I think things are going so slow because 343i is working on fixing the engine and general game bugs on top of making stuff from scratch. We will probably have to wait for May or October before the game gets really meaty.

Those hardware components arent restricted to just Halo. If you’re burning out on the game they can always be used for other games; additionally, they have great resell value.

So glad I didn’t spend a dime. I got everything for Halo 5 when it came out. Books. Comics. The Xbox. Everything. Even action figures.

Not this halo. The moment I saw the gameplay reveal way back then I knew not to spend any money on this game whatsoever

Maybe. i’ve only spent $20 on this game and every time i play i feel better and better about my decision, like making good life choices. I will say, im starting to become embarrassed every time i boot the game up, as in why would i do this to myself? or even telling people i play this game. im just glad it doesnt involve throwing money away.

I was going to buy at least a series X. It was only the surprise early release that made it so I didn’t.

Now I’m refusing to upgrade until things are fixed, if not fixed soon it’ll be PS or PC and a game switch, I’d even prefer to get into Oculus than carry on playing this.

I’ve never been bored of a Halo in 20 years, so thinking like this after less than 3 months is not a good sign for me.

Yeah that is kind of how I feel. I have a big Halo collection so it’s worth it in that regard alone, but it also represents a proper upgrade over what I had before. What I ever I think about infinite now, or in the future, Halo will still always be a very special franchise to me, so in the long run it’ll probably be worth it.

Yeah there definitely seems to be fundamental issues with the game that need sorting, I was not encouraged by the implication that even just adding new game modes would be massively problematic for the UI.

This is true, and they did make clear statements about certain things that were just outright misleading.

Thankyou, I think so too! And honestly I hadn’t thought of that, genuinely considering it now lol I’m sure she would love that

All that hardware is gonna be good for a long time. So no, you’re not a fool if gaming is your hobby.

Let’s just pray AAA gaming doesn’t faceplant any further though…

$20 for her fashion happiness is nothing. She might play with you more, too

Honesty given how bad the last two installments we’re, and how they kept bragging about it being a spiritual reboot and the one year delay, I was like man they really can’t drop the ball on this one.

I don’t think I can put my trust in 343 anymore in terms.of competency

Yeah I feel the same way, though I didn’t go all out like you. I feel like there is minimal content, the same thing over and over and over again. The game is so small. The campaign was a total rip off for $60. And all the talk about cosmetics. Who the hell cares about cosmetics when there is so little actual playable content!

I don’t count my Neo QLED 4k and 8k TV cus I bought 2 and 3 of them just cus.

For Halo though I bought the following:

2 Nerf AR guns: $50 each
1 Nerf Bulldog: $25ish
1 Nerf Mauler: don’t remember price.
Halo action figures for codes: 50 bucks total in cost.
1 Halo Infinite Series 2 Elite controller: $250
1 Razer Kiara Halo headset I think 150 bucks.

So I’m not like 1200 bucks in but I think I’m .maybe 600 bucks.

I got the Energy drink codes for free cus all my coworkers drink them so I stared to collect from them.

Yeah pretty much you are. Do not put your money down on anything unless you’re 90% sure you want or need it.
