I severely miss the classic Halo days, where you could play a 16 player custom game of Fat Kid on Omega Journey on Halo 3, and all that mattered was having fun. Halo back then was just about having fun, but now it’s been twisted into a broken competitive mess. It’s so disappointing to see that the community, for the most part, will oppose anything you have to say about Halo, especially if it’s negative. It pains me to see that so many have fallen for this delusion that constantly changing things makes for a good game. Changing the way the game is played swings in both directions, good and bad. I get the developers want to keep things “fresh and new” because that’s how you are going to get profits for the company. It always goes back to the dollar in the end.
The evolution of Halo should be based on building on all of the key elements that made a previous title successful, not stripping them away and adding completely different things.
You can always go back and play MCC if you don’t like H5.
And the forum is full of nitpicky whining about every minor detail of the game so I’m not sure where you get the idea that you get crucified for speaking out.

I haven’t bought Halo 5 yet. I’m waiting for the problems to be fixed before I put down any money on the game.
Or maybe they are not blind, they just dont agree with your critique. You are basically saying if you dont agree with me, you are blind to fact, which than makes the assumption that your opinion is fact which is the opposite of opinions. (oh and the foundation for halo multiplayer was and actually is fair start, map control orientated matches, so they have not really stripped away anything). Are there flaws, of course, no one is going to say the game is perfect. Sniper bullet magnetism is ridculous and needs to be changed, there is a glitch in the ranking system. There are problems, but all because you dislike something about the game does not make everyone that opposes you blind. They are just disagreeing with you, thats it, nothing more nothing less.
I honestly agree…the game is severely lacking in important aspects and there’s an over-abundance of content in other, irrelevant areas. It’s like they couldn’t get their priorities straight.

I have the opposite complaint about people always wanting the same old thing. I’ve played the mainline Halos. If I wanted to keep playing them, I would just pop in MCC. I actually want new developments and new ideas in gameplay. Yes, I want continuity. Change for the sake of change isn’t always a good thing. But neither is staleness in fear of change.

I miss it very much, too. MCC scratches the itch a little, but it’s a hollow shell.
I wish they’d release a map pack for H2A, add a post-game lobby, make everything on Dedicated Servers, add a File Share, and be done with it. My last Halo experience.
The direction 343 went is such a far cry from how the old games used to play, I can barely recognize it… and everything different is for the worse.

locked 60fps proves to me that they knew their priorities. Can never stress how important that is in a competitive shooter.

This is what disappoints me. This “all or nothing” attitude. I don’t want to play the old titles. I want to see a new title that has all of the important things the old successful titles had, and even more. It’s about adding on the good things. Not just all or nothing.
The Pro Team kept the game anchored to its competitive roots. 343i wanted to add things to evolve gameplay and they used to Pro Team to tune those things. These changes weren’t the idea of the Pro Team. But the Pro Team was responsible for keeping them Halo-esque. One problem may be that the Pro Team may have led to the game being too skill dependent (diminishing aim assist and target acquisition) for casual and non-pro/non-competitive gamers. As much as people don’t want to acknowledge it, aim assist and other elements like target acquisition were key parts of Bungie’s formula. There is at least one interview in which Jon Weisneski (the current sandbox design lead) states as much (he also says it is pretty much Taboo for devs to talk about).

This is a fantastic idea. People can get online and type in all caps all they want. It won’t make too big of a difference, you already bought the game. If people stop preordering and start waiting until problems are fixed, there will be a change.

That’s fine. I can respect that. If I wasn’t so unbearably fed up with MCC I would’ve done the same.

Considering Halo was more competitive before they were able to manage 60fps, I think that’s seriously incorrect. Especially since they sacrificed splitscreen play to do it.

It would help the discussion if you were specific. Your initial post almost has that all or nothing tone you don’t like. Posts nostalgic for “Classic Halo” tend to have that tone on this forum.
Right now, the forum is flooded with people complaining about nearly everything that changed in the game, due to it not being “Classic Halo”. At this point, define what is “Classic Halo” and what is currently not “Classic Halo” and help remove the assumptions about your meaning and need to read into what you mean. “Classic Halo” seems to mean quite a number of things. Most people here are moaning about having to learn to use modern FPS skills like movement and Spartan abilities.
You mention 16 player multiplayer just for fun. Is that “Classic Halo” for you? What specific gameplay elements and modes would make the current game “Classic”? I am curious because aspects of Arena just feel too competitive and not-fun for me. I don’t like the current tournament focus of the multiplayer. But I since I was never that into the MP in the past, I just accept it as it is. Halo multiplayer is synonymous with competition in my mind.

I agree with you and the OP, friend. So I take it by your response that TMCC is still missing a load of features that were in the classic games, eh? I’m not impressed with 343 at all. They can’t even re-release the classic Halos correctly.
