So a long time ago I was VERY mad with what 343 had done to my favorite series of all time (still am mad, but they have been making amends where needed so far so I will accept their request for forgiveness should Infinite pull through.)
But anyway I have found my old documents and made a couple tweaks to them (I was in high school when I first wrote these so some edits and errors had to be adjusted.)
So… Halo 4. I rewrote it to be telling very much the same story pretty much beat-for-beat. HOWEVER, I extended the campaign’s length so that the story didn’t feel so rushed and have better pacing. Honestly, Halo 4 could’ve been this long had Spartan-Ops been it’s own spinoff game and not something crammed into Halo 4 at launch. Halo 4 - Retweaked. I hope you enjoy the story summary.
For Halo 5… I went in with the intention of restoring the original script that was in place before Brian Reed got his fingers into the mix of it all and essentially turned his fanfiction of “Oh No, Cortana is now evil and my OCs are going to save the series main protagonist!” into Halo Canon. Honestly, what I could piece together of the original script for Halo 5 was going to be WAAY much better than what we got. I also made the challenge of editing the script so that it would still lead into the events of Halo Wars 2 and Halo Infinite. A challenge to be sure, but one I was happy to take on. Halo 5 - Restored. I hope you like what I have done with the place.
And so, there you have it. Feel free to leave any feedback on the documents themselves if you so wish. I hope you enjoy the read.

AS IT SHOULD BE
It was honestly shameful that Halo 5 had you play as Chief for only 3 missions, you know, 1/5 the missions count in the game… well I guess you can say 1/4 as the Guns-Down missions feel more like playable cutscenes.
Nice effort. I agree that H4 had its problems. Infinity felt like 2 separate missions splashed together.
And H5? I honestly would delete it alltogether.

Halo 5 was going to have a different story… until Brian Reed decided to make his fanfiction canon and waste time. Most of the H5 campaign locales were reused maps from the original story mode. Ever wonder why the missions on Sangheilios felt better than the rest of the game? Because it was supposed to be it’s own thing. It feels as if it was going to be a game with two campaign modes - 1 as Fireteam Osiris hunting Blue Team and 1 as Blue Team going rogue. But then they cut one campaign and mashed it together to force it to fit in weirdly.
That and of course the cutting out of the return of the Ur-Didact.

In fact, I enjoyed the missions on Sanghelios more. I also liked the scenery. Its just too bad that the overall story sucks.

Did you like how I retold it in a MUCH better fashion in the second document? I am currently making some formatting edits.

It doesn’t take much effort at all to outdo Brian Reed. After all, a fingerless monkey high on LSD with a broken typewriter tasked with writing a thesis on multi-dimensional physics would be able to write a more cohesive story than Brian.
Just checked both your takes on Halo 4 & Halo 5.
I liked how Halo 4’s story was made. But your version looks better of the whole extra missions, actual boss fight, and how the Chief got his suit later in the story.
Your take in Halo 5’s is just perfect! I wish that is how the game would’ve been,

Thanks mate!
That was my goal. Retell the story of Halo 4 had the dev team focused more on the story rather than dividing their focus as they luanched H4 with two campaigns - John’s and Spartan Ops (honestly Spartan Ops should’ve been a spinoff. Had it been, it would have more time to develop the story and make it not recycle locales so often and have more quality screening so the Spartan-IVs don’t seem childish and incompetent a lot of the time.)

I see that.
They should’ve had two separate teams working in each campaign. I enjoyed Spartan Ops, but it’s true that many locations are just a loop.
But it was fun to play it.

It honestly should’ve been its own stand-alone title, considering the fact that Halo 4 had to cut a lot of corners and such during development. And since 343 made that promise of “1 new game every year”, it would fill at least one year of gameplay by releasing it as it’s own game. Plus it would allow for Halo 4’s cut content to flourish in what would essentially be Halo 4’s multiplayer 2.0. Things such as the six cut multiplayer maps, armor sets that weren’t implemented or completed, weapon skins, loadout perks that were cut, and it would allow for a rebalancing of Halo 4’s weapons sandbox thanks to feedback on Halo 4.
