Does anyone else remember 343i’s statement before Halo 4 was released that they didn’t intend to have Elites in multiplayer, and that they had some type of game concept that would pit spartan against spartan in some believable way?
I remember them saying something like that, and one of the things that I thought they were associating with that claim was the team symbols - you were now part of a clan when you played slayer.
Well, that concept of spartan v spartan has always been there, it isn’t anything new, and the team symbols certainly does not make it new.
Additionally, Dominion, which was to scratch the Invasion itch, is just another objective game, like flag, assault, territories, etc. I mean, spartan against spartan - nothing of any kind of a campaign at all, just objective in the raw game sense of the word.
Have I overlooked something? Did something get by me?
Does anyone see any compelling evidence of a new and realistic spartan v spartan game anywhere with multiplayer?
I personally think it would make more sense if they included elites. After all, if war games is technically a training simulator it would make more sense for the spartans to be fighting elites. I understand it’s only spartans on board the Infinity, but they could just say the elites were just holograms or something.

I played one episode of the spartan ops, and I remember playing against anything but spartans. So where is the realistic spartan v spartan found?
I mean, I was bored with the ops, so I never went back. Is there an episode where spartans are fighting spartans?

The Spartan V Spartan is For War Games, which is infinitys way of training Spartans, Spartan Ops are MISSIONS that you fight against covenant and Prometheans as THE SPARTAN that you play in War Games.
It was dominion to scratch the itch. I think as improved invasion would be better though. Apparently they couldn’t have elites in the infinity simulation . So they couldn’t train against elites?

That’s my point. The spartan v spartan isn’t anything new. It is just vanilla multi-player.

Dominion is basically an evolved version of Territories.
They could have captilized on Invasion or Firefight Versus from Halo Reach, heck it would be better training for S-IVs in War games to train against Elites instead of other Spartans in War Games.
Invasion and Firefight Versus in Reach could have been excellent training exercises for Spartan IV’s. Spartan vs Spartan in War games seems like a Sport instead of a training exercise.
War Games is like real life OpFor but more high tech instead of laser tag with outdated and heavy equipment. The training is to help hone your abilities for when you may need to apply them in real world situations, such as Spartan Ops. It makes total sense to me for the reason there aren’t Elites in War Games.

^This.
THIS also got me thinking if there’s a Covenant training simulator. How do know when to send reliable troops to find Spartans to kill?
Multiplayer being canon is cool in my opinion, as now I actually feel like I personally have my own role in the story. I train with my fellow Spartans in the simulator, and then I actually go out and get real work done (Spartan Ops), employing new tactics.
In terms of elites not being in Halo 4, I personally don’t care, BUT they could come back in Halo 5 depending on the story direction. For example, the Arbiter and the other separatist elites could join Infinity’s Crew for a short while for a particular mission, those handful of elites also making use of the war games simulation.
> If they can make people look like flood, they can make people look like an elite.
The flood model is just a re-skinned spartan with the same shape, hitbox and “anatomy.” Elites are entirely different and Spartans would canonically have to enter the war games in a body completely different in size, shape, and anatomy.
If they’re going to bring the elites in war games, they need to be actual elites
You should be able to play as an elite even on the sim because the UNSC is allied with the Arbiter, it doesn’t have to make a lot of sense canon wise but people want it and I think it’d be worth the effort. Why train against your friends when you could train against aliens similar to those you’re going to be facing?
Spartan v spartan is simply vanilla multi-player. There wasn’t anything special added by 343i to justify a claim that there is now a believable reason to have spartan v spartan, and thus we don’t need Elites.
It was just a marketing ploy to excuse not having Invasion.
