I regret purchasing this game.

There is a laundry list of issues with the game, and right now at the top of it is the disappointment of CSR and join in progress mechanic.

Joining a game in progress starts players at a distinctly unfair disadvantage.
It is a problem FFA games, and in team games as well. This mechanic is ludicrous in the fact that it allows me or a party of teammates to join into a game that we start at a 20 point disadvantage in a slayer match. It is even worse that I/team can be ahead by 4 captures in CTF and put an unskilled player/team at the receiving end of the disadvantage! Even worse yet, I’ve started a new game down 1v4 because of (what I assume is) reliance on the mechanic working (I ended a game 1v4, concluded a match with the same “party” and stuck through to the next round of map voting because I wanted to play against the same guys. I assumed JIP would work to my favor; it didn’t, and I quit when I was at a double digit deficit in slayer).
The fact that these scenarios can occur to that extent is crazy.

The mechanic that was meant to help out on quitting has spawned several of its own.

It is even more frustrating that these things can happen after CSR has been released. I’m a competitive person by nature. I thought CSR might renew my interest in the game and every time I stop playing the game I realize that I’m frustrated and fed up with the issues I encounter. The most recent is a game of team slayer: search for a match as a party of two, only to be paired with another party of two (or maybe it was two singles) against a team of four. This might not be an issue but we were paired with players that performed at a net -30 spread where we were +5/7 or so. Having a ~35 (or so?) CSR in the playlist, I’d expect to match up with teammates with similar skill levels. So I (slowly)navigated through (sluggish) Waypoint to see (after a browser crash and switch to Internet Explorer): I matched up a against someone with CSR at 41. He had a teammate with CSR at 5.
What’s the point of a CSR if players aren’t going to match up with players of similar skill?!

The depth, engagement and enjoyment of the arena shooter that I am used to has been stripped away. I don’t stop playing this game because I am hooked and playing into the wee hours of the morning and need to go to bed so I can function the next day anymore. Instead, I quit because the game is frustrating and very little is done to change it.

The only reason I have an Xbox, LIVE, etc. is because of the Halo franchise. I didn’t get Reach cause I thought that was going downhill. I thought to give H4 a chance, but I think I was wrong. I don’t have confidence in the developers to take care of the laundry list of issues and will let my money speak; I won’t purchase another product unless the one I already have is fixed. Granted, I don’t expect anyone developing this game to actually care or listen, but at least it’s off my chest.

You think this game is bad? Have you played Aliens: Colonial Marines? THAT is a terrible game, one that I regret purchasing. Complete crap from beginning to end.

Play that then I think you might appreciate Halo 4 again.

Sadly many of us are in the same boat, and it’s also the reason I’ll wait a few weeks after Halo 5 comes out and try renting it if I can . Currently Halo 5 is (not a purchase) but only a rent / barrow from friend.

I also feel exactly the same, its hard to even get through a couple of games. Ive stared at more black screens than ANY OTHER HALO GAME EVER.H4 is COD with beautiful halo textures. All they obviously care about is $$$$$.Wasted my hard earned money on vanishing Map packs as well. There attempt to convert COD players failed and for what? TREARCH does a great job pleasing there fans,by constantly releasing TU’s to fix obvious issues. Halo was the only reason i owned a xbox let alone pay for xbox live, now theres absolutely no reason to not switch back to SONY products,at least they provide DEDICATED SERVERS for there AAA multiplayer titles even when they were in financial trouble. 343i staff dont play the game or even test it online obviously,PSP connection is garbage and gives 1 person the ability to ruin the basic experience for 14 others then they completely remove the option to select a good connection. Why? Oh,im sure it saved 343 some $$$ somehow. I only still play because i spent my hard earned money on a brand new copy at launch its already in there greedy pockets. Lesson learned it wont happen again. RIP HALO.HELLO PS4!!

You’ll have to buy it and neither rent nor borrow Halo 5 if the always online DRM comes true.

In the same way that you could play a game that was worse than Aliens:Colonial Marines and have a new found appreciation for that game?

Just because there are worse games than Halo 4 in existence, doesn’t mean people can’t dislike it. That’s some of the strangest logic I’ve ever seen :S

I guess that’s just more incentive not to give my money away.

While I may despise the multiplayer’s current state, I find the game is pretty good as a whole. Campaign is great, Spartan Ops can be cheesy but it’s still good (especially the cinematics), and all Forge needs basically is precision editing.

I don’t regret buying the game.
It is my favorite game on any platform but i feel the same about the new ranking system and and about jumping in midgame to a losing team.
Promethean vision ruins the game aswell. Whats the point of having walls made in to the game if you can see through all of them.

343 could fix all the problems right now but i feel they are afraid to change anything and wait for halo 5 to make any changes.

I don’t regret buying this game. And as far as CSR not “working” properly, it’s only been out for a few days and everyone was reset so of course for the first few weeks things are going to be weird. This should even out as more play time is accumulated.

I thought A:CM was a fun underrated game. Sure it had bad AI (which has now been fixed), Story, Textures. But at least they didn’t change the look of the guns and change sounds just because of change. And rewrite 10 years of canon. Also Bug Hunt is extremely fun.

I’ve had more fun playing that then Halo 4.

I don’t regret the buy but i do regret trusting 343
