Today I went to EB Games and asked if I could pre-order the Limited Edition. The dude said they were all out. I asked him when they would come back in stock and he said that all EB Games across Canada had run out of LE’s and that no more were coming in. That’s what he said, at least.
This put me in a very bad mood (he gave me my first heart attack LOL) and I was so sad I thought of not purchasing Halo 4 and just getting Borderlands 2. Of course I would still get the game, but I was very sad as I was in full knowledge that I would be picking up the LE. I’ve never picked up a Limited Edition before, so I thought that I was sure to be able to pre-order the Limited Edition as long as I pre-ordered before the release date.
At home, luckily, I was able to pre-order the Halo 4 Limited Edition online off of Best Buy. It’s set to arrive in early November.
If you have any intention of pre-ordering/picking up the Limited Edition of Halo 4, I recommend racing to your computer or nearby gamestore to pre-order it. RIGHT NOW, yes. It’s called “Limited Edition” for a reason. Halo 4 is a sequel to Halo 3, which was a massive game, and so many people will be looking forward to picking up Halo 4. I am posting this thread as an attempt to help prevent people going all emo when they discover that all the Limited Edition’s are sold out.
> Good thing I already pre-ordered my LE edition and LE console from gamestop back in augest. Now I can sit back and wait for halo 4’s release.
lol I’m sitting back and waiting, too. It feels so nice to know that you’ve already paid for limited copies of a special edition of what will become an incredible game.
> …How did a store run out of PRE-ORDER copies of a game that’s not even printed yet?
I have no idea, ask the EB Games guy. Today I was looking forward to picking up Madden NFL 13 at Best Buy and the guys there said all copies were sold out even though the Store Locator said they were in stock. I also tried to use my coupon on Madden or Halo 4, but the coupon said that it was enligible towards those games when it didn’t say anywhere that it’s not.
I was wondering the same thing. He said that they were limited, and that since so many people had pre-ordered the Limited Edition’s they had run out and all EB Games in Canada had no intention of bringing in more. I think that that guy is perhaps, lying.
Same here, I havent paid in full for mine but all my copies are Pre Ordered naow, also ordered the LE Game, LE Console, LE Soundtrack, Art Book, LE Strategy Guide, as well, so come November I will be one broke -Yoink!-. But it is Halo 4, and unlike Reach I am highly anticipating its release and diving back into the story as John, I missed that green giant :(.
> …How did a store run out of PRE-ORDER copies of a game that’s not even printed yet?
Most stores have an allocated number of copies that are allowed to be pre-ordered, that way people don’t pre-order more copies then what the stores are able to get.

yeah, that’s what I’m assuming too. But I never knew that they could run out in quantity before even the release date.
> …How did a store run out of PRE-ORDER copies of a game that’s not even printed yet?
The publisher has already planned out how many copies of the LE they will be making. Resources have already been allocated for this. Chances are, most of the hard elements of the packaging are already produced. Instruction manuals, inserts, outer containers, etc so making more may not be feasible at this point.
Also, retailers have to put a deposit down to the publisher too to guarantee sales. Once they have their number, they’ll pre-order to that point and stop. Also, it does exactly what happened here, guarantee a limited supply and exclusive status. Next time, this gamer will pre order from EB EARLY and they won’t lose a sale to Best Buy.
> …How did a store run out of PRE-ORDER copies of a game that’s not even printed yet?
It’s like how GoW 3 ran out of pre-order copies of Limited Edition months before release. Microsoft probably means it this time when they say “Limited Edition” is actually limited.
But Limited Edition is still able to be ordered here in the States. Or at least, in my area.

It’s Halo 4, it’s a big event lol. I think that spending all that money is worth it
I’m 15 without a job (did flyers a few years ago for a year) but I’m blowing a lot of my own and my parent’s money on Halo 4. I’m doing this because it’s Halo, the only reason I got an Xbox and pulled me into gaming, and this will probably be the last game I can enjoy a lot before a new Xbox console comes out.
I’m pretty broke, and I also have to renew my Xbox Live subscription aha. I was going to finish campaign and renew it, but it looks like you need Gold to download Spartan Ops missions.
He’s not necessarily lieing, Pre Order’s count as bought copies until someone cancels their Pre Order, so no matter if the games been printed yet or not it still is sat aside on the Order list as being sold. Alot of people have also already paid for their copies in full for Halo 4 whether it be the Standard or Limited Edition, something that also happened before Halo 3 was released, but not as much for Reach. If their are orders that are canceled between now and release they will set those copies out on the shelves or desk, and wait for people coming in at Midnight and on to see if they would want to upgrade from Standard edition to Limited edition, this happened alot at Reach’s release.
So its not necessary for the game to be printed before they are listed as sold out completely on the Limited editions of a anticipated game. Its also true that Canada doesnt order as many copies of Limited Editions or Collectors items generally as say the USA normally does, so this could be a factor that prevented you from buying at their Gamestops.
The online Mightyape.co.nz store is a good store to buy Halo items from, you will however be paying a little extra for shipping, and extra content that comes with whatever free content they happen to be marketing as Exclusives at the time. I ordered a standard edition of Halo 4 from them due to the nice DLC emblems, armor skins, they package with their copies of Halo 4.

Well, before release, companies are usually given allotments by publishers, along the lines of “you as a company are going to get 300,000 copies, away you go”. It’s typically based off of calculations of how many they think they can manufacture between going gold and about a week before release. That’s why occasionally there are more (or not enough) copies at launch. So they sell through their allotments and then stop taking pre-orders.
