The Noble Map Pack playlist, the Defiant Map Pack playlist, the Premium Battle playlist, the Premium Slayer playlist, and even the Anniversary Squad playlist.
All of them removed, and replaced by the Squad DLC playlist, which features AR starts on Highlands.
It’s really depressing to see how people like me, who despised Reach’s default/gray maps but bought the DLC now can’t even enjoy it properly. Meanwhile, those who didn’t spend any extra money on the game are being catered to with TUs and playlists like Super Slayer.
DLC with Reach is such a mess. I’m strongly considering not to buy any Halo 4 DLC if things keep going this way. Just look at it!
1 lone and miserable playlist in the whole game! 1 single playlist! Either that, or you have to go through the annoying TU/Anniversary settings in any of the Anniversary playlists, which feature major weapon layout changes and a mess of objective/slayer gamemodes and jump/speed trait variations
Why aren’t playlists like Multi-Team or BTB DLC-required already? Why is 343 catering to those who only cry but don’t put the money into the game?
I agree 100 percent i want DLC only playlist i should be catered too with at least a playlist for spending my hard earned money on DLC and it’s not like those maps were cheap either i have all three of them and that’s money i could have spent on something else.
How does 343 expect anyone to buy the DLC if they don’t show any support towards it anyways!
The way I see it, DLC purchasers should be a priority to them. They should be the ones being supported first. And yes, I believe those who spend actual extra money in a game deserve to be listened to first.
I agree. I wish it would go back to being like it was in Halo 3, where non-DLCers had 2 ranked playlists and a couple of social playlists, and then the DLCers had 5 or so ranked playlists and lots of social playlists. The DLC playlists were one of the reasons I bought ODST, cos then I’d have all the DLC. If people really want to play Halo, they’ll buy the DLC if it is required.
I agree in terms of being able to select DLC material separately. I like knowing that I can jump straight into something I bought additionally to the game and also it acts as a nice separate playlist offering a new visual on maps and new gameplay.
However, I think the reason why this happened in Reach is because it had to. 343i needed to support the population of Reach and this was one way of doing this.
When Halo 4 and if the population stays healthy then I assume such playlists will stay separate as they will when the DLC initially comes out.
That is a problem and while they should fix it in Reach i hope it is definitely fixed for Halo 4.
I honestly have never played a match made game on at least half of the maps i bought. That is utter b*ll and i can’t even get the achievements since i can never play the maps.

Have you only bought them recently?
Unfortunately, when they were first released they had their own playlists for a few months for obvious reasons. It didn’t stay this way due to the low population of Reach Multiplayer and therefore by merging playlists together supports this.
Edit: It will increase your chances if you play with people that have the maps. Try arranging or group other players that have the maps.

Yeah I mean some games simply do not allow the player to access many if not all of their playlists without the required DLC. It’s a risky strategy but most of the time it does work, especially if it is a popular game and the DLC is worth the money. If Halo 4 is a good quality as 343i make out and future DLC is high standard then I see no problem with doing it this way.

I stopped playing shortly after buying the first map pack (hard to find games on the new maps even then), and bought the others when i got halo anniversary just so i have everything.
So basically unless I use the almost empty recruiting pages on this forum to find a group for achievement hunting on DLC, I’m SoL?

It is hard I know.
If you do find yourselves in DLC match online then try messaging or inviting the players you have been with, if you have a full party you will have the selection for DLC for the future. If you have any friends that have Reach ask them or if they know anyone. And yes, recruiting people on forums outside of the game is always on option.
I know this is all a lot more effort than what is needed but if you want to play the maps you bought (I don’t blame you) without hoping to run into one with randomes then these are the best ways.
This again all comes down to the small population on Reach was has effectively restricted features such as this.
Halo Reach’s algorithm for matching you with players who own the same maps you do is pathetic. I have owned both Noble and Defiant since the day they both launched, and I can count on one hand the amount of times I have played these maps outside of a DLC only playlist.
Meanwhile you have games like CoD which guarantee you a match on any playlist with any of their map packs. You can even disable searching for DLC if you want. There is absolutely no need for playlist restrictions either. From my own personal experience, Infinity Ward handles their DLC way better than Bungie has ever done.
Unless I know for sure 343 has a good system in place for their map packs for Halo 4, I will not be purchasing any of them this time around. I already feel ripped off buying them for Reach.
> This probably won’t happen, but they should make DLC free for Halo 4. Everyone would have the maps, and all is well. They make enough money anyways.
They may do it with 1 or 2 maps. I would not expect a free DLC containing 3-4 Multiplayer + 1-2 Firefight. I would much rather pay for a higher quality pack as well.
Also, don’t forget we are talking about Microsoft here. XD
