I really don’t like it. It seems antithetical to what Halo’s about. The Time to Kill in halo is too slow for this kind of gamemode. So about 70% of the time you’re not winning fair and fun fights, you’re either getting your fights ended by a third party or you’re stealing kills or abusing overshields/cloaking. In a gamemode where every life matters, that’s very frustrating.
Perhaps it’d work better if we had small teams, or if we abandoned Battle Royale and went towards Gungame. But now? It’s terrible.
Now see, a fireteam based version would be a dream come true for me. Taking my wolfpack along to go slap other Spartans around, revive each other? Yeah. Yeah I WANT that BADLY.
That’s what I thought, but that makes it a limited playlist, as to where I would play this every day… and again would probably like it more with some fixes.
Nah. LSS is a mode that is quite aggravating for me.
Desync lag is still prevalent in this season so far, so I have had the misfortune of getting close for a melee strike, only for the person to suddenly teleport in a random direction as the server recalculated their input and they happened to change direction; often resulting in me suddenly being shot from the side as they strafed and realized they were being followed.
The mode is full of campers. My first match was unfun as I heard chaos early on during the match, attempted to get to the fight to get kills and level up my loadout, only to find that there were a bunch of bodies and the victor had either died via a trade-kill or had fled to a corner to go squat and camp. I then proceeded to die as I made my way to a weapon drop, only to be back smacked by some guy sitting in a corner nearby. THEN later on in the match we had an active camo samurai just doing camping/stalking kills.
The game mode devolves to it just being campers picking off people who have yet to upgrade their guns. It is heavy luck based as if you don’t kill someone within the first thirty seconds; you are already at a harsh disadvantage. Gun Game is fun, but Gun Game SHOULD NOT be a battle royale experience. 5 Lives is just wrong.
The fact that my first kill in one match was someone’s last life was pretty indicative to me how harsh campers are in the mode as within two minutes, this guy was eliminated with it being my first kill. I had already died twice and had taken up to camping myself, a strat I haven’t legitimately used since I was like nine.
I really haven’t run into very many campers, as far as desync I haven’t had a problem with it, not like it’s being said on the forums anyways. Everyone starts with the same guns as well as sometimes I will keep my pistol well into level 4 and do just fine.
I wouldn’t say I love it but it becomes fun after awhile. I will say it’s not very fun at first, it just takes quite a few games to get the hang of it. I still prefer regular FFA and fiesta over this game mode. I will still stick primarily to MCC but may come back from time to time for infinite.
I have generally positive feelings on the mode. It feels like the mode + map is the perfect niche for the Commando. Although as I’m typing this, I was spectating a match after being eliminated and it crashed lmao. Hope the challenge progress counted.
Yes that’s like the main issue. Those drop pods should also contain more than just power ups because that’s honestly just kinda boring. They could mix it up a bit.
Started to enjoy it a bit more now that I’ve got the hang of the map a bit.
Had one awesome sequence where I was being chased and jumped into the slide (near the laser) and was sliding backwards throwing spike grenades while my pursuer was shooting his AR. We both landed with no shields and staggered around comically trying to get our bearings and melee each other. Some how I won that little encounter.
I’m the opposite… the more I play it, the more I’m slowly not liking it. I’ve never liked Battle Royale style games where it’s you against everyone else on massive maps, which is why I’ve stuck to Halo and Gears, where it’s been smaller maps fighting in teams, even if the games haven’t been at their best recently.
But 343 have decided to base an entire season around FFA, which means slogging through a mode I don’t really like to make more progress on the Battle Pass and unlocking items
It’s not perfect, but it’s a great concept and has lots to build from. If nothing else, they’ve shown that BR elements in a Halo game can absolutely work. Overall I’m very disappointed with 343 and not the happiest about the current state of the game, but I will give a nod to them for developing this game mode.
