“Tank controls” being an option (where certain inputs equal acceleration, reverse, left, right, etc. independent of camera position) would be much appreciated.
I realize Halo has always been different when it comes to vehicle controls, and it was really intuitive when I started playing in 2002, but for some things, this feels clunky and downright outdated. Turning around in particular is so strange. You can’t properly reverse when you point the camera to the rear; your driver just makes a really sharp turn so you drive “forward” again, regardless of whether the terrain makes that feasible.
The direction you drive in being dependent on the camera’s orientation (left stick is effectively a forward-and-back throttle) also makes any sort of sharp turns or sudden change in direction a lot more cumbersome since you’re pointing a crosshair slowly anywhere around you instead of having a dedicated left/right input on the stick.
With the next flight possibly featuring vehicles, this is something I’m looking forward to at least as an option. Or does anybody know if this control scheme has already been confirmed?
They’re probably going to control as they always have. But the troubles you list have been… pretty rare for me.
About: “outdatet”
You don’t always need to keep up with “modern” stuff. I mean, look what happened to Halo 4 when they introduced those scences when the player had to react, wasn’t that good, same for the MP that felt more like CoD-Halo.
Modern does not always mean good and outdatet must not include bad
> “I really hope vehicles can control like GTAV cars”
If i take this quote literally, than it doesn’t make sense. Halo Infinite and GTA V use different Engines, you can’t make the controls feels identical. (Besides if you mean with controls, the input, not the engine or “drive-feeling” of the cars)

At least for me, the driving in previous Halo Titles (even in Halo CE) feels very fun and is even better than in the most modern shooter wich includes vehicles. In the Campaign Gameplay videos it looks at least simular like in previous Halo Titles. In the next flight (hopefully) we can test it and collect feedback from the community.
But i see what you are going for with this proposal. I think you mean following: A setting wich allows to change throttle to RT and break to LT and steering to left stick. This would be not a bad idea and would fit with the intention from the devs to make the game accessible also for new players, since in a lot of video games, they use the control scheme with RT to throttle and LT to break.
If 343i don’t include a new setting for vehicles controls it’s not tragic. At least i hope the engine how driving feels (not controls from a input standpoint) doesn’t change much, it was always fun to drive in Halo.
I personally quite like the unique approach Halo has to driving its vehicles, such as the warthog.
One thing I would say, is it would be quite nice to have a feature that would allow you to quickly view behind you, like a rear view mirror, that was bound to toggling Right Stick maybe. I don’t think it would make vehicles more OP, as the trade off is that you can no longer see where your going.
As for the scorpion tank, I find it can be a little janky if you have your gun pointed full left or right of your treads, and then attempt to move forward. It can lead to the tank making some weird spiny motion as it tries to orientate itself on a dime.
I think it would be better if the tank moved forward more relative to the treads (sideways to our POV), and then course corrected to travel in the direction your facing.
The tanks vary from game to game, but I recall 5’s being quite funky. I’m interested to see how Infinite’s scorpion moves if I managed to get on to the next flight.
