I really hate the out of bounds zones in Reach...

…and it’s something I wanna see much less of in Halo 4. I understand their importance in Multiplayer games, but am I the only one who just gets a “FUUUUU-” moment whenever the timer shows up? You can’t even explore a map with a Falcon in Forge without getting blown up. Not to mention how much it limits exploration, which was fun as hell in previous games. I think it’s a great thing that it’s there in Matchmaking, but that’s the only place I want it in.

Now, we haven’t seen how Halo 4 looks but I’m gonna assume that we will be able to explore maps in Campaign and Multiplayer and that’s why I don’t like seeing the death timer again in this game.

What are your views on it? Surely there exist ways of keeping it without shoving it up our -Yoinks!- as soon as we wanna jump to a cool place on the map?

I much prefer the creative ways you could get killed by the guardians in Halo 3.

I like them cause wat if ur. Hiding a forge map and ppl can escape wash since there’s no boundries

I never actually though about that! Yeah that was much better, for one thing those areas didn’t provide much exploration, it was mostly just sand and snow, but still fun. In Reach they would have just thrown in a timer which would have been awfully boring.

You should be able to implement the death zones and all that in Forge like you could in Reach, of course. I didn’t say it was an issue in online multiplayer.

There definitely shouldn’t be out of bounds zones in custom games. Well, at least the option to turn it off. Exploring outside of maps was so fun in Halo 2.

Precisely. Now you can’t do anything. I wanted to look at the map Breakneck in Reach by standing on the crashed Falcon and the timer showed and I was like “Come on!!”

Especially because on some maps (like Sandtrap), you could escape them if you were fast enough.

Personally, I’m a huge jetpacker, but on most maps the only vantage points it could help you with are blocked off. What’s the point of having a jetpack if it can’t get you anywhere of value? Most of these offer little cover and could easily be countered with a grenade, but they’re blocked off anyway. Why?

Also, barriers in Forge World just piss me off. Sometimes the blocked off areas even have fully-detailed trees–there is literally no reason to block it off. Another place would be the water–there’s absolutely nothing but water to render out there, so I don’t see why they couldn’t have left it wide open to Forging.

> Yeah the water thing was annoying as well. I hope this stuff improves.

I think that in Forge there should just be no barriers, so you can explore parts of the map you can’t usually get to. Also, water shouldn’t kill you in forge. (So an option for deadly-water or nondeadly-water.

There should be an option in every map to delete all objects, including kill barriers and invisible walls (that should also be a forge object), so you can explore without the use of pan cam and teleporters.

No out of bounds areas in Campaign. Let us explore, 343…

Is nothing wrong with boundries.

Yes, I agree that the boundaries are very frustrating. They should be able to be placed in maps where one chooses. They should also exist in matchmaking. However, there should be an option in Forge to remove all of them, and they shouldn’t exist in Firefight and Campaign maps at all.

Just my thoughts. Although just maybe in Firefight, depending on the situation. If you find a place where the enemies can’t reach you whatsoever then it might cause problems for unlimited Firefight (if it’s similar to ODST with the leaderboards and all).

This is why it is important to distinguish campaign from multiplayer.

The H1 pistol was in campaign and multiplayer. That led to balancing issues (not that much though. H1 pistol ain’t that godly… except in the right hands).

Then there’s sword flying in H2. That led to the TU which removed it.

Then there’s H3 equipment like Flare and Bubble Shield that only promote camping and are more like obstructions then gameplay elements.

Then there’s Reach bloom and armor abilities. AAs got nerfs and bloom got reduced via TU.

It could be said that CEA’s campaign and multiplayer being fundamentally different could be a sign of 343 realizing this.

I liked bubble shield in Halo 3 and thought the flare had great potential but simply wasn’t strong enough. :expressionless:

Halo 2 as well

Like the train? Yeah that was fun but I don’t recall getting killed by anything when going outside of the map.

Leave the kill zones in MM, but Forge and Campaign shouldn’t have them. I don’t really forge much but it would be nice to fully explore out of bounds. Definitely shouldn’t have any timed killzones in Campaign; going out and exploring everything back in Halo 2 was tons of fun.

Glad that a lot of people agree!
