I REALLY don't like what they've done with the level Halo...

It just doesn’t look like Halo. It’s too brownish orange, as opposed to the original’s grayish green.

In case you haven’t seen it, this is what it will look like in CEA.

It’s completely different, you would think it was a different level from the colors/lighting.

I sure looks nice, but it just doesn’t suit the level. It feels different.

Why did they change it so vastly?

That’s mostly because of the sun-setting/-rissing enviroment it’s now placed on.

The other levels doesn’t look like that.

It looks amazing I see no problem with it and to be honest in the original they probably couldn’t design a sun set like feel to it, so they have done it here and honestly I couldn’t be more happy with what they have done. They have given such a beautiful feel to the level, and instead of all the levels being the same brightness they have put in times of day for each level, because if you pay attention to the scenery the next level is night time The Truth and Reconciliation and the level after that is the morning Silent Cartographer. It shows that 343 have actually payed attention to the scenery and tried to give the game a more realistic feel.

P.S I’m not having a go at you
just pointing out some stuff.

They changed it so vastly because if they simply retextured everything with higher resolution rather than changing it all, people would whine and complain about how the game is just a higher res rip-off even more than people are complaining now about how everything is changed so much.

I hope more people see sense and understand the changes like this and I reaaaalllly hope that people will stop attacking 343 and give some constructive criticism and i’m not suffering to the guy who posted this thread (because this is an example of constructive criticism) just the sudden up-rise of people who have decided to back stab 343 for some odd reason. It’s like someone had something to complain about and then a bunch of trolls rolled in from no were and decided to flame them. But I am not saying there are not things that need to be changed.

I think it makes sense for the level to be based on the Afternoon since the Level Truth and Reconsiliation takes place at night.

You realize that Halo 1 has a very intentional and dynamic time-of-day lighting scheme, right? And that the brightness levels between different areas in the original game vary drastically (and that, judging by the fact that a lot of super-dark CE areas are now fairly bright in CEA, the original game probably actually has greater area-by-area brightness variances)?

Actually, one of the things I’ve long praised Halo 1 for is that the time-of-day is quite effectively made to be directly resonant with the flow of the narrative during the second and third acts (and arguably the first, though act 1 is introductory and it’s kind of difficult to draw the connections clearly).

Dude, it’s a sunset. Have you ever seen a sunset? You are a moron. Of course it’s orange.

> Dude, it’s a sunset. Have you ever seen a sunset? You are a moron. Of course it’s orange.

Firstly:
Sunsets are orange because of how the sun’s light passes through our atmosphere, which has a lot to do with both thickness and the amount of pollutants. A sunset on Halo would quite possibly be less orange than on Earth. And the sun isn’t really low enough in the sky on that level to cause very extreme sunset-related orangeness anyway.

Secondly:
His complaint isn’t about finding a mechanical explanation for it being orange, it’s an aesthetic complaint. That is, he likes the green/blue/grey look better, regardless of why it is whatever colour it winds up being.

I can see how this would be a problem for some. From a more blue tinge to orange now is of course a big difference and does change how that may now feel. Fantastic level so i hope it’s still in keeping with how it originally felt despite the difference

Looking at it another way, it will be like playing a different flavour of your fave level and it’s nice to have that too. All levels to be honest look radically different in places anyway and so provided they get that original sense of what if felt like in these spaces, i’ll be happy

Agreed.

I think it looks considerably better than the plain lighting of the original. More dynamic than green grass and blue sky.

I preferred it the old way, but the new way is still cool. And a sunset environment is canonically correct seeing as the next level takes place at night.

I’m going to reserve judgement until I play the level myself.

I have to say, I love how the music cut out just as he flipped the warthog.

I thought of it as (using the level Halo as an example), when the game came out it was fresh, like morning, a new start.

Now we revisit that same place, the setting sun indicates the time that has passed between when we first lived it and now relive it. Ahh the nostalgia…

seeing as how the next mission is at night time. i think the sunset theme for second mission is appropriate. even if it wouldn’t actually be orange because of the lack of atmosphere.

Lol I love how the classic hog still drives about as well as poop slides. =D Terrible handling, so much fun.

In my opinion, the new colours make it look too much like Earth. Sure it’s more “realistic”, but it feels less like a mysterious alien world now, which is what made stepping out of the escape pod so breathtaking.

You will always have your baby…Halo CE is always there to go back to.
Yes this game will never be as good, it just doesn’t have the same nostalgia.
BUT it will play the same…I feel like as soon as you start playing the game you will forget the visuals and settle right in.

Looks good to me.
