I don’t know if it should be permanently available, or on a similar schedule as Halo 3’s “Double EXP Weekends” but I am certain it’s a good idea, or that it (at least) must be tried out.
Right. Lets cut to the chase.
Have you ever found yourself searching for enemies in a good old BTB match? Have you ever played a small map and questioned how it would work with 16 players rummaging around it? Well, I present to you a new playlist: Mosh Pit. This playlist would feature all and only the small maps Halo 4 has to offer, along with an assortment of small playing fields Forged by the community, all with a 16 player cap. Chaos will surely ensue.
Why is it fun?
Since the maps are so small, it would be much easier to find enemies around it, this makes the match extremely fast paced and highly reliant on teamwork and map control (due to it being much easier to change the course of the match). Thus, it’s extremely competitive.
I came up with the idea after creating a map in Forge called mosh pit, it’s basically a balcony per team jumping down into a half-spherical pit that is just deep enough so you can’t leave it once you fallen in, and is extremely small (you can get from one side to the other in about two seconds, but all 16 players can still fit with ease). The map is built with 8-16 players in mind and wields the players with a Gravity Hammer (yes, I made a Grifball version) and a Concussion Rifle, the two most chaotic weapons that can be used in close range. It’s actually pretty good, but still in the testing phase. You HAVE GOT to see the map’s KotH variant, it’s absolutely crazy.
Anyway, this is the type of Forge maps I had in mind for the playlist. Small, tense, chaotic and sometimes even creative. But obviously the focus (2 of 3 options, maybe?) would be on maps shipped with the game, just for a new competitive experience.
Sounds like a lag-fest.
Anyway, this one game-type should definitely not have its own playlist. Maybe as a quick 2-3 minute action sack gametype, but I can see this type of gameplay getting repetitive and boring.
im not sure
having a big team battle in a confined area makes it really hard to navigate around the map
If they could figure out a way to keep it balanced but ensured crazy carnage I’d for sure play it. It would definitely get really chaotic!
NavG123, I’m not very knowledgeable on networking, but why should it lag any more than a big map if it’s the same amount of players?
Not a fan. Small maps are designed to support small teams. Big maps are designed to support big teams. Chaos =/= Copious Amounts of Fun

I won’t pretend to be an expert either, but when you have all of that carnage, and all of those players in nearly the exact same spot, I feel like there’ll be problems.

If you’re talking about my map, it is definitely on the extreme side. Maps on this proposed playlist should be around the same size as Guardian or the Pit from Halo 3, some bigger, some smaller. The idea is about making the gameplay tight and tense and I doubt this would cause much lag problems.
I wouldn’t want to see this as a permanent playlist. It sounds like the kind of thing that’s only fun when you’re playing with a bunch of buddies with their mics on, and everyone’s talking and having a good time.
The sad truth is that since the advent of the Xbox Live Party system, you only find one or two people per match who both have their mics on AND are in Game Chat. Crazy-fun becomes sheer annoyance and chaos when there’s no one to share it with.
Either way, it doesn’t sound like a fun playlist. Why would you want to play a cramped, confusing, and annoying version of BTB on maps that aren’t designed for it?

You could describe it with the words “fast paced, action packed and teamwork-dependent” too, highlighting the bad parts of something is an easy task.
Think of it as a hyper competitive, chaotic playlist with a huge focus on winning matches. The time between respawn and fighting would be much shorter, and the gametypes would motivate players to work together. Think of King of the Hill on (taking a Reach example) Sword Base, with eight blue players crammed inside a hill fending off wave after wave of incoming reds. Think of CTF, establishing a defense would become a top priority in order to win.
I guess it’s all up to taste.
this does promote teamwork… up until you walk into a pack of people and toss a grenade… simple answer: no.
> this does promote teamwork… up until you walk into a pack of people and toss a grenade… simple answer: no.
How about this: NO GRENADES (not on spawn or on map).
Seriously people, try harder. This could be awesome.
Stop trying to make us think it will be awesome, you asked for our opinion and we gave it, don’t try and change it.

I really am not. If you don’t like it, I can accept that.
EDIT: The problem is when people search for ways to turn this down and come up with baseless explanations and proceed by saying “simple answer: no.” than I am inclined to answer.

Rather then type a paragraph about it, I did a […] and allowed my point to be made clear. Since the simple and ironically polite answer won’t do here it is again: I don’t like your idea. I can’t appreciate what your willing to say on this topic. This idea, in my opinion, is not worth it to be a playlist in the future of Halo in any regard and what I specifically mean is: BTB numbers on small maps, under any circumstances.
There, you happy?
