I’ve seen a lot of cool designs in the shop. But then I see the prices and I’m like “NOPE! That is not worth 20 dollars! 8 dollars maybe.”
Like the Anubis set right now. I really like the helmet + the attachment that makes it look like he’s wearing headphones.
But 20 dollars for that? Hell no! I do not care for the armor coating, visor color, shoulder pieces, stance or the other things that are in the bundle.
So that’s a shame. With the current system a lot of really great designs will probably not be worn by a lot of players, simply because they are in really expensive bundles.
That & when I noticed the battle pass is bloated with challenge swaps & XP boosts it put me off supporting the game monetarily because I just know the Reach armor we assumed would be in the pass such as Emile’s pauldrons are going to be store-exclusive items.
I actually feel really sorry for all the artists who made the armour & coatings expecting they were building rewards for the most rewarding and diverse halo customisation yet.
And then it all gets used to scam people with poor impulse control out of their money instead
I’ve bought nothing yet, there has been nothing that has tickled my fancy. The bundles are expensive for what they are but admittedly I’d pay 2,000 credits if I really, really liked the armour coating or helmet.
I’ve bought an eSports bundle because I like the BR skin and it supports my favourite players. Also bought the battle pass because for $10 it’s definitely worth it for me. There’s a few things in it I want, admittedly I’d have paid $10 just for the Superintendent AI so jokes on you 343, thanks for the 99 free tiers of items I get with my AI purchase.
Even if we just had a full list of all items, as single purchase, my dumb -Yoink!- would buy more of that stuff. But looking at bundles that are 80% stuff I never want to use? Why would I pay extra for that?
Good take, agreed. I waited 6 years for the game and was willing to support above the average player, but not at those prices. A sword I don’t care much about, 5 cash? Enjoy the donation. 25? Take a hike.
If prices and progression system were more fair and player friendly, people would absolutely buy more. 343i need to make their money of course, but they need to find a balance between profit and player satisfaction.
I would argue that the current system even loses money. If it was more open and affordable there could be way more room for microtransactions, like the name implies.
Right now every 5th player throws out maybe 20-40 Bucks once, “oh i would have bought the game so I have this limited budget” and will never buy something again. And these few Whales who want to flex their wallet by running a Helmet with receding hairline can surely not carry the games cost alone.
I bought an esports bundle from the sheer fact that I didn’t want my spartan to look like they had been dragged across a pile of rocks constantly with that worn down look. I like that glossy/matte look those bundles offered and I liked the bright blue contrasted with the black.
See I almost bought one until I read that it’s only for that one armor core and won’t be able to be customized at all. Thought it was just a skin - the whole idea of a “kit” that can’t be changed at all in the “most customizable halo ever” is stupid.
Same. I bought the Battle pass with no tier skips and 2 HCS skins I really liked (Cloud 9 and Fnatic). They probably made those skins so awesome on purpose. All the black armor coatings that are not part of HCS are more dirty grey.
It would be really great if those skins were also armor coatings you could use at every single armor core. But that would probably be too ‘player first’.
I haven’t watched/followed competitive much since Halo 3 but it is impressive he is still on the scene as most of the pro players from that long ago aren’t still as competitive as they used to be.
Yes, amen, not going to lie I was and still am super confused why they made armor coatings specific to certain kits/mark models. I assume it was a money grab scheme which will probably work in the long run but it just sucks for the fans that have been invested in halo for so long. I mean heck at this point the customization in H3 was better than what infinite is now.
Don’t get me wrong I love the game and the way it plays, I just wasn’t expecting to be so restricted on how I can customize my character.
I can’t help but every time I hear C9 I think of the Overwatch term. Basically Cloud9’s Overwatch team messed up a win so bad and lost that it became a popular term in the game ha.
Team Optic all the way! I also quite like Sentinels. Their kit is pretty nice too, might just pick it up.
