I love CE, it’s my favorite game of all time. However, if there’s one thing I think the later games did better was the art style. Don’t get me wrong, there are many aspects of the Universe that still look the same, and that’s awesome (Covenant and Forerunner stuff). However, I think Halo 2 and onward really gave the HaloUniverse its massive iconic look now. The Covenant species looked cool in CE, I just feel that Halo 2 led the way for them to be the iconic look (though the Grunt and Jackal in Halo 3 is now the canonical look). The Forerunner stuff really stayed the same, though some adjustments were made due to better graphics as well as offering different types of locations and structures/facilities. It wasn’t a change that changed the look of everything, but you could tell there were some changes, some pretty significant One of the biggest changes Halo 2 did was to the UNSC. It’s no shock that Halo: CE takes inspiration from Aliens; the biggest being the Marines looking like the Colonial Marines Aliens Colonial Marines and CE Marines. I’m glad with Halo 2 and onward they gave the Marines a different look, not being a very blatant reference. The digital counter on the weapons and the Pelican are references, but not so huge, more homage and honoring past sci-fi. I’m glad they decided to move on and give the UNSC its own look. I love CE, but I agree when many say Halo 2 and onward really gave the Halo Universe its iconic look. Just my 2 cents, do you agree?
Yeah, agreed. There are a lot of small to medium touches all over in Halo 2 that wipe away any resemblance CE had to the other media the game was inspired by. To me that’s a good thing since it helped Halo stand out as its own thing. Not that CE’s art was bad or anything in the slightest.
As a side note, I think H2A is a great example of a remaster done right. It truly feels like what Halo 2 would have looked like had it been made in 2014 for the first time.
Agreed with both of you, Halo 2 and 3’s art style is great.
And to quote Tuhin94 because I agree 100%:

I completely agree. CE looked amazing for its time, and even now to an extent, but the later games like you stated really make the look of Halo. And the Grunt and Jackal models from 3 are actually the canonical look? That is really awesome to hear, didn’t know that.
Agreed I really prefer the art style of Halo 2 and Halo 3. I didn’t really like Halo 4 or Halo 5’s but Halo 2 Anniversary looked good. The teaser for Infinite looke really promising in terms of a “blend” of the art styles.
