Honestly, Im not interested in playing this game as this lock guy or any one else. Back in the day, when we played as the arbiter, i just wanted to get through his missions as quick as possible. didnt care about him… still dont…
I like Halo because I like the Master Chief character. I didnt care for any of the other “halo universe” games because I was not master chief.
also… In my opinion… It wouldn’t be Halo without cortana either…
Guess you won’t complete the campaign then. Sorry. I couldn’t care less if Chief is present at all, he has never been that intriguing of a character and had the personality of a brick. Locke actually has more going for him in terms of defining traits. He works for ONI, yet is skeptical about how it operates (thus having a moral conscience as opposed to almost everyone else). He is hunting Chief, yet what exactly is his motivation to do so and how will he react upon finding Chief? Looks like he have another morally grey character who won’t fit into the cliche of good vs evil. I want to see how he does in the story.
Playing as Locke puts the Master Chief in a very interesting spotlight, and opens up the very gray world of ONI to the video games (it’s very prominent in the extended universe). I’m glad we get a different perspective in the game, but I really hope he ends up being a cool character. He was okay in Nightfall, but I hope to really grow to love or hate him by the end of Halo 5. I hope 343i do something bold rather than just another good guy, morally sound, silent hero. If he’s going to be just another Master Chief character it’d be a huge waste of time- like you, I would prefer just sticking to Master Chief.
Basically, as long as Locke is different- I’m happy to play as him in the Campaign at the expense of a couple of Master Chief missions. I loved the Arbiter, for instance.
EDIT: and on Cortana… Her death, as huge and changing as it is, finally allows Master Chief to undergo actual character development and to become a human being rather than a blank-slate killing machine. And it’s about time, if you ask me!

I wouldn’t be too upset with a couple of missions (like a max of 2)… I would just accelerate through them to get back to the Chief. I enjoy Halo as the story of Master Chief and would much rather play as him.
I like the idea of playing a grounded, well defined character. I missed the chief in reach, solely because he was built up in 3 games and many books before. I was excited to seem hI’m develop in 4, and look forward to his journey ahead. However, I like the idea of adding perspective to the universe to open up plot devices and story elements, similar to the Arbiter in Halo 2. But 2 things I hated about it (even though it was my most player Halo game):
He should not have more play time than MC (especially when there has been so much build up from 343 as MC’s story)
If they split missions like H2, the cliff hanger/dark portions better not be Locke getting the spotlight. I felt shafted with the way H2 ended, both for lack of a climax but also for the titular character being shelved for most of the plot points, finale included. If there is to be a passing of the torch, you have to have the character WANT to be the new character. Ex. Devil May Cry 4 welcomed a new character that was used for half of the game, and by the time the original character came into play, half the cpain had to be replayed in a different style (not to mention, like Halo 1, a reversed story/repeated levels).
Tangent aside, there should be variety and incentive to play as a new character. He should be able to fill MC’s boots, and be connected enough within the game (nightfall should NOT be required to get to know the character from beginning to end in the game - 343 addressed this in Halo 4’s pot mortem). It obviously will be going in that direction, unless he becomes an antagonist at some point, so you have to forge that connection with the playear or risk alienating fans even more than the gameplay has already.
The franchise isn’t called “Master Chief and Cortana”, it doesn’t revolve around them and can exist without these characters. If you have a problem with other characters being used then that’s your problem.

Just expressing my opinion.
I play halo games because of the MC and cortana characters. Without them, i dont play. I couldn’t even get into the spartan ops stuff because it lacked MC…
I will agree with the others who liked the idea of playing another character for a couple of missions to break things up. Then getting back to MC.
I definitely am. At this point in the canon, you need to have multiple viewpoints just to see everything that’s happening at once. All the things going on with Arby and ONI and the Didact and that guy that we thought was dead but we found out wasn’t at the end of Primordium…
There’s a lot going on. We need Locke. Plus, he looks interesting enough.
So, are you saying that you stopped playing Halo 2 as soon as you started playing the Arbiter, and that you didn’t even play one of the most atmospheric Halo titles to date (Halo 3: ODST)? Because that would be a shame and extremely limiting.

I will say this. I am a HUGE Halo fan, I have every legendary edition I could buy, and many collectibles. When I heard Halo 5 was going to take us back to the good ol’ days of gameplay, I was extremely happy… until I started playing the campaign. I am on mission 9 or 10, and have only played Blue Team (Master Chief) twice. John is one of my favorite fictional heroes of all time, and to watch him get pushed to the side lines ruins the whole game for me. I never thought I would say this, but as far as a campaign review from myself, I give it a 1 outta 10. I could care less about Sarah Palmer, Team Osiris, and especially Spartan Locke. MORE CHIEF, LESS FILLERS.
