It is the worse progression system I have ever seen. I don’t even really want to finish the season really. Pretty sure I am going to stick to MCC where I can progress in the game modes I actually want to play. How any one at 343 would think this random challenge system for progression was a good idea is beyond me. I have all my challenges for this week MCC finished up… Don’t even know or care what they are in Infinite. The progression system should be like MCCs, xp based on medals and challenges are just bonus xp.
Am I just incredibly lucky with this challenge system? This week my challenges have been like “Get kills in attrition, get assists, play matches of fiesta, get 1 kill with a specific gun, get pistol kills in attrition, revive 3 allies in attrition, get melee kills.”
Week to week I rarely have anything that I want to spend a challenge swap on. Every now and again I’ll get the dreaded “10 kills with the pulse carbine,” and I immediately swap that out.
I feel like 90% of the challenges basically amount to “play the game and you’ll get this easily.”
Agreed. 343 is very daft when it comes to things like this.
I HATE having to get a kill with the BLAM! plasma repeater. Let alone 3!!! I swear I get kills with the damn thing (even see the kill feed with the -Yoink!- plasma repeater weapon icon) and I still don’t get credit for it!

Going free to play was easily the worst decision ever made for this franchise. Now rather than making the most enjoyable game possible they just want to design everything to be as tedious and annoying as possible so you’ll just spend money to progress rather than play the game.
Honestly same. I completed the battlepass through gritted teeth and annoyance, but I just can’t find the will to play any longer with these awful challenges. This event, for me atleast, has been completely ruined by the challenge system. I hate the mode, I don’t want to play it ever, I think it’s just bad. Now that’s just me. But if I want the rewards, I’m then forced into one of the sweatiest modes the franchise has ever seen. The challenges actively make me not want to play.
The Challenge system needs to be like MCC:
ALL challenges are available from the get go, and challenges are generalized into weapon classes instead of specific weapons.
For example, for Misarah’s Menace in MCC, the challenge is to get kills with automatic weapons.
For Infinite, the same challenge is instead to get kills with the Assault Rifle specifically, due to there not being any other automatic weapons in the game.
Imo this should be changed to a “Rifleman” challenge where players are required to get kills with Rifles of any sort.
So things like specific kills with Hydra, Rocket, Cinder, Ravager instead becomes “Get the Bomber Medal”
Kills with any rifle for a Rifleman Challenge
Kills with any sort of Pistol for the Gunslinger Challenge
Nah, you’ve just been lucky. This week I got a total of FOUR challenges wanting back-smacks. That’s on top of all the other BS. It’s a genuinely trash system.
The challenges at least need to be able to be attained in any playlist rather than such playlist specific… Also last place in FFA apparently won’t let you progress, which I kinda understand BUT if you can be the worse player on a losing team, maybe so bad you got only one kill, you will progress, then every place in FFA should progress.
Basically they had a Live service they had to sell us, so they tied the progression to the Battlepass, with the challenges as the only form to .over forward.
But guess what it’s only gonna get worse… They announced they are bringing Earnable credits in game in season two… But they dropped the ball as usual…they said they are bringing into the season 2 Battlepass… So it looks like once you max it out… That’s it… No more earnable credits until the next Battlepass.
Yup they had the concept and flopped at the finish line cus they gots to sell you on the Battlepass…
I feel like challenges should only be in the game for leveling up faster by deciding if you want to do them or not. Not be the only way to level up. To me it seems clear the reason it’s the only way is so they can sell you something (swaps)
I dislike it greatly, being forced to play a certain way is not fun. Being forced into specific modes to roll the dice and see if you can even get a map that lets you work on this is not fun. Seeing teammates camping weapons/vehicles instead of helping is not fun…
I admit they’ve put in some work to make them less annoying but… they’re still annoying. If they have to stay in the game, make them more generic like get kills in a vehicle, get kills with grenades, play games, win games, earn medals, etc.
I got two of those last week. I just waited until they were both active, then each of my back smacks counted for both. Generally, I look at all my upcoming challenges and group them together so that I’m always picking games that progress multiple challenges.
Perhaps its my playstyle, but getting backsmacks aren’t that bad.
What makes them hard is usually the Desync like in team Slayer ots not hard to find an enemy engaged with your teammate go behind them back smack but if the first one desyncs than it just ruins it.
Usually me and my for friends pair up and try to help each other get specific challneges … like if we need assist. One focus on weakening the other gets the kill.
But yes if you don’t have a solid friend group they can. Become tedious as others are doing roughly the same.challenges.
The game has become .mostly people trying t grind out challenges, since that’s the only other option to get cosmetics outside of the store…
Some people still say oh well you have the Battlepass. Which in a way is true with passive XP per match … but it’s not an efficient way, unless you push towards the challenges.
It’s hard for some to admit but then making the challenge system the primary XP system prior to the passive XP update was 100% to push players to buy challenge swaps. They knew some of those challenges were going to be very much Random Hope you get that specific game mode and players would swap. Eventually run out and hey it’s only 200 credits right … next thing you know your 4000 credits into challenge swaps.
It’s crazy but 343 and other gaming companies use the same Outsourced research that. Casinos use to kinda keep players addicted and pushed towards in the moment purchases.
I had six challenges to get melees or back smacks in attrition which meant I couldn’t hang back and get kills, helping my team. Instead I had to keep rushing in with assault rifle - melee gameplay usually trading a kill at best.
In attrition this just meant I was harming my team more than if I could hang back and kill.
Terribly frustrating. Sorry to all the random teammates this affected.
Go for PP + Melee, Mangler + Melee or Shotgun + Melee combos.
Equips to look out for are Grapple or Thruster.
It’s not impossible but HELL IS IT ANNOYING. I had a 25 Melee kills for Attrition, so I planned my path on spawn and run for these combos as mentioned above so I could nail at least 3 - 4 melee kills per match before I played seriously and won the game. Though occasionally I just helped the team win by doing so because the enemy is somehow entirely helpless against an aggressive player.
I was having issues with that one tracking as well. For some reason it was only counting the attrition matches I won as completed matches.
Good tips thanks. I also had the 25 melee kills challenge. Ended up camping camo whenever it was on a map as that gave me 3-4 easy melee kills
This game has zero respect for how much we do in it, I could sit in a match and do jack squat and I still get credit for it.
I completely agree.
The challenges in this game are just another level of pain. They’re not inherently hard, but they take so long to get. If I have a CTF challenge, I’m guaranteed to not get CTF for at least a dozen matches.
Once you’re done for the week it’s kind of hard to do anything because there nothing to progress. If you max your Battle Pass and complete your weekly challenges, you have nothing to work towards at all.
