You can win the helmet in the game, the code just gives you a special variant.

Did you peel off the little tab inside the card? Also in the bottom middle it should say recon helmet something something special it’s not on the normal box

You need to get a halo reach copy that says it comes with recon. If you got a copy that said it comes with recon then make sure its not a used game. If its brand new and it says it comes with recon then its a ripoff. But if you got brand new code but it didnt work then its the xbox.
