I Need to Be Briefed!

Well, I am an avid Halo player, and I love the halo side stories, fan fiction, and whatnot. But, I cannot always seem to get questions that I have answered, I hope you guys can help me!

Who is master chief? (By that I mean where did he come from, and what his story is).

Why were the forerunners SO important, and better than humans?

Here is a opinion question:

Should I read Halsey’s journal from the Legendary edition of Halo: Reach?

Alright, that about sums it up, and I hope you all have a nice day!

how can you be an avid fan of the side stories without knowing the answers to your first two questions? anyways, use this website http://www.halopedian.com/

From memory so some things might be off. John was born in Elysium city in Eridanus II. He lived in a fairly rural environment and saved a girl from drowning in a lake. He always won at games like chess, gravball, king of the hill. He had superior genetics so he was number 117 for the spartan-II program. He was the first child to be visited for survey of the candidates by Doctor Halsey and Jacob Keyes. He was then kidnapped by ONI agents and brought to reach to train. He had his first day, then training, and training, at the age of 14 he got the augmentations. In an incident he accidently killed two ODSTs while in his training boxers.

He was the leader amongst the Spartan mates. He was okay with being a spartan as well.

His squad and him captured rebel leader Colonel Watts. He got his MJLONIR and then they destroyed a covenant ship at the loss of Sam.

He’s been fighting the covenant ever since, humans too, then forerunners stuff. His main trait is Luck.

Forerunners had dominance in the galaxy and believed in th Mantle, to protect life and all that. They had an ecumene of 3 million fertile worlds. They rebelled against the precursors a long time ago and killed many. They were a sibling’s race of the humans made by the precursors.

How did I find out about Halo?

Actually, I downloaded a demo off the internet for my PC. Played “The Silent Cartographer” approximately 100 times before buying the full version.

Then proceeded to by an Xbox specifically for Halo 2, and a 360 for Halo 3.

> Who is master chief? (By that I mean where did he come from, and what his story is).

I’m not the most knowledgeable person as far as Halo lore goes, but I think know a good amount. Basically, the Master Chief was abducted as a young boy to be part of the SPARTAN program, where they essentially create these genetically enhanced super soldiers. I believe he was replaced with something/someone so that no one would know he was ever taken. The SPARTANS were initially kept under wraps, but eventually they were used as a type of police force. Basically, just keeping things under control on Human-controlled planets. At least until things got bad.

> Why were the forerunners SO important, and better than humans?

Forerunners were (from what I know) a very advanced species with incredible technology. These Forerunners discovered a parasite called “The Flood.” I’m not sure how long the conflict between the Forerunners and the Flood lasted, but eventually, they come to the conclusion that the only way to kill this parasite is to fire the Halo array. The Halo rings were ultimately built to wipe out all sentient life in the universe, thus destroying everything the Flood eats, and starving them to death. The Forerunners used what was called the Library to place many different species so that they would survive the blast when the rings were fired for the first time. Humans were one of these species, and although the blast from the first firing wiped out most of the flood, the Covenant (years later, in their false quest to become Gods) accidentally released the flood when they went in to light the rings (I think). Now, take what I’ve said with a grain of salt, because I’m not sure it’s 100% accurate. That’s the basic idea, though.

> Should I read Halsey’s journal from the Legendary edition of Halo: Reach?

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the Legendary Edition of Reach, but I’m sure there’s some cool information in there.

If you want your questions answered, I’d consult the most reliable source possible: the primaries. Read these novels, in this order.

The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund
The Flood by William Dietz
First Strike by Eric Nylund
Ghosts of Onyx by Eric Nylund

Other books you should also read include the following (in order):

Contact Harvest by Joseph Staten
The Cole Protocol by Tobias Buckell *

The following books will answer most questions you have on the Forerunners, as they take place 100,000 years before the events of the games and aforementioned novels.

Cryptum by Greg Bear
Primordium by Greg Bear

Greg Bear will be releasing the final book in his Forerunner trilogy next year.

Finally, if you are still craving some Halo fiction, the following books offer compilations of short stories.

Halo Evolutions Volume I
Halo Evolutions Volume II

Get reading.

This ^^^

How I found out about Halo? My cousin had it (CE), I had an Xbox. He’s bring it to my house and we’d play all night long…

Who is the Master Chief? One of the few surviving, fighting members od the Spartan II program. He wa skidnapped at age 6 and put through extensive military training along with 75 other kids. After a few years, (I believe they were about 14… I could be wrong) they were given biological augmentations to increase efficiency in all areas like eyesight, speed, and bone structure. This killed off a large amount of the Spartan IIs. John (Master Chief) was then sent out against the Insurrection, and later the Covenant, until he is at where he is today.

Why were the Forerunners so important/better than Humans?

Forerunners were a highly advanced (Tier 1) species who pretty much controlled the galaxy more than a hundred thousand years ago. They were large creatures, and were split into different classes. Builders, Warriors (Military), Miners, Lifeworkers (I may have forgotten one). They were created by the Precursors. Forerunners held the belief of the “Mantle”, protecting life. Humans made contact with the Flood, and subsequently pushed into Forerunner territory ro make up for their lost planets. This escalated into a Human-Forerunner War, which Humanity lost, and the Forerunners de-evolutionized us. Later, the Forerunners faced the Flood, who began spreading throughout the galaxy. As a last resort, an Array of 12 Halo rings was constructed. These rings were eventually activated about 100,000 years ago, casuing the disappearance of the Forerunner species, annihilation of the Flood, and the Lifeworkers reseeding the galaxy with life.In short, they were very important because they created the Halo rings. They were the most technologically advanced species in the galaxy for quite some time, until the Forerunner-Flood War. Read Cryprum and Primordium for more information on the Forerunners, the Didact, and the Forerunner-Flood War.

For much more in-depth answers to your questions, I advise you to get your hands on some of the various Halo books. The Fall of Reach is a good one for Master Chief, I think.

Read the Halo Fiction. everything you asked (except about the forerunners) is in there.

For spartan 117 and the rest of the spartans read THE FALL OF REACH
As for Halseys Journal, im not sure if you NEED to read it, its…intresting but really only for the diehard fans who would already know the answers to your questions.

As for the Forerunners look up HALO LEGENDS (a bunch of short animations) specifily “ORIGINS” a 2 parter that gives a breif history of the last 100,000 years.

My first Halo experience was when a mate brought it round back in 2001 and i was instantly hooked on the story and everything - aint put it down since.

Read my bio and the Master Chief page in general results.

This thread is well over 3 years old. Your post is unnecessarily redundant and late as hell.
