I need some opinions! (Possible Hacker Found)

I would like to start off by apologizing if this is not the correct place to post this. I couldn’t find anywhere else to put it!

Alright guys, I think I’ve encountered my first hacker! I won’t be releasing a GT yet, because this might just be glitch or a lag issue etc. Plus I don’t like falsely accusing people!

Here is what happened, I was playing a nice game of Infinity Slayer and came across this specific player. I ran past him, not seeing he was behind a corner. (He was standing still, therefore not on the mini-map) Anyway, I take a few more steps and then randomly fall dead! Confused, I watched the kill feed (kill cam? whatever Halo 4 calls it) this player fired thrice into the wall straight in front of him, and I died. At first I dismissed it as lag, but then I discovered that I had excellent internet connection! So, here is my question. Do I blow this off, or submit it to the mods? I have video evidence of the game, so I might post it here. Let me know what you think I should do!

Thank You and God Bless,
AlwayzAHead

Sounds like lag. Your connection speed does not mean you connect perfectly with everyone around the world, or that their connection speed is good.

What the game does is try to match what they saw on everyone else’s screen. If he shoots your head on his screen, the game will attempt to show the bullet going directly from his gun to your head. If it’s laggy and you see him facing a different direction, or is behind cover, it will still try to show this, which makes it appear that his bullets are ‘locking on’ to you since they shoot sideways or through walls. It’s fairly common.

People who can mod online are usually paying to do so, because the few people who have bypassed the XBL security charge them to be an intermediary and get them online through their service (the majority get their money back by scamming little kids on CoD to rank them up to the umpteenth prestige), so they’ll usually be doing some pretty obvious mods like speed/jumping/rapid fire/projectile changes etc. and generally getting their moneys worth of the little time they have by showing off as much as possible.

I’m inclined to say it’s lag. Especially considering the notorious inaccuracy of killcams in this game.

Blame it on the lag.

OP, sounds a lot like lag, but then again I wouldn’t know because I wasn’t in the game. If I were you, I would file a complaint against that player, and if he is guilty, Microsoft will suspend him.

It was just lag. He turned around and shot you dead; you just didn’t get updated until after you died.

A fast internet connection doesn’t guarantee that you’ll never run into lag. Halo 4 uses a host-based system for networking, which means that one player is chosen to host the game and everyone else connects to him. Lag occurs when it takes too long for information to travel between you and the host. This can happen if your internet is slow, the host’s internet is slow, or there is a large geographic distance (i.e. trans-continental) between you and the host.

> People who can mod online are usually paying to do so

Totally untrue.

I would take anything you see on a halo kill cam with a pinch of salt. I’m not trying to be rude or negative, but the halo kill cams need a lot of work, a lot! I always choose to skip them because whenever I watch them, I just get frustrated at how bad they are, the person that killed me shoots a rapid fire DMR about 3 meters to the left of me and I flop to the ground dead. I don’t think this person you encountered was a hacker

Thanks for all the quick replies! I was planning on just blowing it off anyway. I didn’t know if I should go ahead and submit it to Microsoft just in case. Thank again!

Easily lag on your part or his. I’m more impressed with the fact you used the word “thrice” in your post. Good job.

Kill cams don’t accurately depict what actually happened. They are quite unreliable.

I know this has not been said before…

but i think it was lag :).

happens to me pretty often i stopped counting

Thank you for being considerate and keeping the gamertag quiet.

Calling out a specific individual or gamertag in a negative manner is generally against the rules, because of the reasons you gave as well as the potential to cause disruptions on the forums. It’s a rule that we have to enforce even when the person who’s doing the call-out means well, so I’m glad that you didn’t run afoul of it in this thread.
