I believe that feature has been broken for a while. There is supposed to be some site maintenance in Autumn so expect it be fixed sometime soon.

The best way to search now is using google.
You can use Google. The on-forum search has been down for a while to alleviate problems with lag.
A tip: check the timestamps on threads before posting. Most people are bothered by “necroposts” that revive months-old threads, as any resulting discussion is going to be founded on old and stale content and opinions. If months have passed since the last reply to a thread, then it may be better to make a new thread instead of posting in the “dead” one.
