I need help in this game... I am so bad

I’ve been playing halo 4 for sometime now and I come to the realization that I am not very good of a player… I would say that I am below average at best. I lost every 1v1 I have ever played and I end up in 7th place in almost every FFA or slayer match I play. 8/10 matches I will go negative or barely break even.

I’m looking for someone or even a group of skilled individuals to willing to help me better my playing ability. Where it be a clan or a few lone wolfs, it doesn’t matter.

I have spent many hours trying to refine my skills in custom games analyzing grenade placements, strafing, jumps and my accuracy skills but to no avail. I have consistently been outplayed by people that I feel I should have beaten and it’s frustrating me to a high degree. I have done nearly everything to try to adjust. Changed controller layout, sensitivity, connection speed, playing with friends, playing solo, spartan ops, campaign. It doesn’t matter.

I feel that I have plateaued and I need assistance in playing consistent better. I have yet to get a 50csr in any playlist… Even big team

If you are willing to help me get better, I would greatly appreciate it. GT. Goldenknight II

Thank you for your time

Player skill tends to stagnate unless you have at least one other person who you play with frequently and bounce ideas off of. Try to find a second who is around your skill level and plays about as often as you do. A full team of four would be best, but Halo 4 doesn’t really have a fantastic population at the moment.

Also Halo 4 maps (or maybe it’s just the gameplay?) seem a lot less structured than in previous Halo games. As long as you run in a group of two during games you can usually find some success with patrolling nearly any location on a map. I’ve seen high level players win games rather convincingly by controlling the bottom of Haven, only coming out when the power weapons are respawning.

You can message me here on Waypoint with any individual questions you have. I enjoy helping out new players (though I’m rarely on Halo 4 anymore). Also, the answers I give can change drastically depending on the map and gametype so let me know what playlist(s) you frequent.

Cheers, mate.

I had a bunch of tips here, but then I checked your record and you’re a 42, so … quit complaining. I’m a 32. lol

Lol, your CSR 43 what are you talking about?

> Lol, your CSR 43 what are you talking about?

Like it matters … Everyone can back out from fights that seem challenging and rank up to 50 by playing beginners. The ranking system is broken in that regards that you can in my experience rank up against anyone you play against, obviously because that’s how the matchmaking system was made.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Keep in mind yes I do have a csr 43… But it’s in BTB so don’t focus on that. What I have noticed is I struggle in. 1v1 situations and I lose most of them. I can’t throw a grenade properly and I can’t snipe if my life depended on it. I’m just looking for someone willing to help improve those skill sets with me.

Just message me here or on live if you are still interested

Where are you from, Knight?

if you are losing 1v1, is it mid range, short range, or close range in particular?

I have a few videos you might want to watch

If you want to improve your aim, play swat and team snipers(and lower sensitivity sometimes)

> Where are you from, Knight?

I’m from Florida

Thanks for the replies again. In 1v1s I lose in every way. Close, mid range and long. Now I get hits on them but I ALWAYS choke on that last BR shot. Or I do something stupid and make a wrong decision somewhere and panic. Trying to focus on being more clutch.

I do appreciate the videos as they are very informative.
I currently am on default layout with 5 sens. I’ve tried lower sensitivities but I just get out strafed or out juked and I can never turn around fast enough. I’ll try swat but I am terrible at that playlist…my ability to choke flourishes in that playlists.

Any other advice is appreciated

Try strafing and pressing B multiple times as you jump in fights.

Just curious. I’d be keen to play with you and help you out but I’m not from the US, unfortunately.

Best of luck getting better though : )

here is a rough guess: you currently lack the hand/eye coordination to aim without a scope while moving like you do with a scope? You wracked up a pretty decent K/D ratio in Bigteam, I assume you are fairly aggressive with the BR/DMR?

Also - are you getting in the first shot? Or consistently the second shot?

My skill is meh and my CSR is sub-par as I am a conservative player who makes sure the circumstances try to warp to me getting the first shot and not being flanked, but I do tend to win a lot more 1v1 then my skill says I should.

Aim using the left thumb stick, if you can mimic your opponents strafe you’ll never miss a shot (And you’ll always win if you get the first shot). In halo 4 you hardly have to aim at all.

It also helps to jump for the last shot, especially if your opponent has just jumped. He who jumps second wins the battle.

I’m talking BR vs BR, if you got someone running at you in a strait line with an AR, it’s probably best to have a good strafe (While moving away).

Also I noticed you play a lot of flood, I know it’s great for your K/D but it wont make you much better overall.

I have a thing I made back in Halo 3 called the “BR box” it works best in H3 because you can set Shields to leech but basically it has 2 spawn points and you practice BR strafing and fights. It comes down to the best player winning the battle and you do it over and over again until you can master the basic strafing moves will trying to out BR the opponent.

A couple of nights doing this with a friend for hours on end leaped my skill way up and it has carried on with me to every Halo since. You could recreate the BR box in Halo 4 and practice in there. The more skilled opponent the better since you have to work real hard to out strafe and out shoot them.

Advanced trials would be letting them shoot you once first then you engage and try to survive. Putting more pressure each time and trying to come out the victor each time. Obviously not every ‘real world’ scenario can be done in BR box but those 1v1 engagements can help you in matchmaking a ton.

Appreciate the feedback. Few things to answer some questions

  1. I play on default layout which means jumping in the air in a 1v1 is very difficult to pull off. This would be easier for the bumper jumper layout but for default I would have to take my right thumb off the stick and hit B to jump then move my thumb back to the stick in time to aim.

  2. I usually get the first shot off in a 1v1 60-40 ratio of the time but some how I still miss that last shot or they decide to eat it for some reason and I die.

  3. Yes I play a lot of flood but that was to get my special helmet because I was going for 100 percent commendations which I now have.

  4. Where can I download this BR BOX. I would like to try it.

  5. I am a very aggressive offensive time player by nature but unfortunately that method has gotten me killed a lot . I tend to challenge everything. It’s frustrating because I see players push and be aggressive like me and pull off the kill but I get punished for nearly the exact same tactics in the same situation.

  6. I would like to run doubles or 4s with talented players so I can learn more but aT this moment I am going into rumble pit and practicing there.

If you guys are still interested . Hit me up. I know I have spoken to a couple people who have contacted me and I welcome any advice that you are willing to give.

Its awesome to see that you want to get better! I was in a similar spot not too long ago in Reach, sitting with a 0.8 k/d using the good ol AR. Now I am (apparently)in the top 5% of players on H4. For me, my journey was unguided and sure it worked, but IMO I wouldn’t recommend doing what I did. Anyway, because I started from complete noob, I definitely know things that could help out that I have learned over the couple of years.

If I were to say learn one thing, it would be positioning, which of course is the hardest to explain over text cause it is so situational. If you learn where/how/when to position yourself a certain way, it will drastically increase your playing ability. Even more so than improving your shot I would say.

Send me a FR on xbox if you wanna play sometime and I’ll show you some tricks in 1v1s and possibly doubles if you can find a partner.

how i dominated when i played was to do the unnatural thing. if you are low health try to outsmart him instead of running and be aggressive 100% of the time if you give him breathing room you are not doing it right, try using grenades to block paths instead of always trying to damage people with. never crouch while you strafe because you just look pretty dumb he’s going to hit anyways crouching doesn’t help maybe when you jump but not when strafing. don’t strafe left right always try doing like left right and keep on going right then left it will be harder for him to react since everybody is basically used to people strafing left right and the last thing is GRENADES always have a spare grenade on you no matter what. for aiming and twitch reacting just play swat… and btw my friend drjavat0 has a csr of 47 and i have won numerous times over him in 1v1 so don’t think so much about csr

I agree, grenades are very nice to save yourself with on a tight map. Many players are not willing to run through the grenade to chase a person with no shields, even though there is a good chance they could run through the explosion at the right time and take little damage. The glowball grenades are nearly as good as erecting a temporary door when used in a corridor.
