Halo 4 is a good game, but it is not a good halo game.
So I’m playing halo 3 right right now and I’m typing this out on my iphone 5. This thing is it’s taking forever to write out because I’m finding matches a lot quicker than I do in halo 4. Halo 3 is rocking 10,000 + right now and I’m having loads of fun. Ok got to go back in a game… Annnnnd I’m back. God that was awesome. Ok back to what I was saying, halo 4 basically sucks. I’m sure this have been done before but I’m just going to make a list of what made halo an AMAZING multiplayer experience.
At the start of the game everyone rushed for the power weapons. After a few minuets each team tries to control the power weapon spawns. (CRITICAL)
There was no stupid flinch mechanic
No random ordnance, no Cod point ordnance
Everyone started the game the EXACTLY the same (CRITICAL)
No boltshot, no jet pack, no Dmr, no AAs, no custom classes, no game ruining sprint
No cod perks.
Infection is fun. Playing Jenga was awesome
Vehicle were actually useful (worthog is a beast)
Proximity chat was awesome
Maps are actually good
No super auto aim assist (CRITICAL)
No grenade indicators
The X
Medals stayed on the screen for more than a second and served more of a purpose. Medals looked pretty.
I could drop the flag and not accidentally pick it up.
To sum it all up, 343 took halo and made it into the noobiest (if that’s even a word) game I have played next to cod. Wait what am I saying, halo 4 is cod.
I honestly love seeing halo 4s population go down every week. And I think it is hysterical that microsoft signed a deal with virgins only win gaming for this stupid tournament. I really want to like halo 4 but its just god awful in its current state.
What is there to discuss? Do you think 343 needs it add/take away some of the features above in order for halo 4 to be good?
Well back to halo 3. Flame on. Please feel free to leave a comment.
MODS- THIS TREAD IS MEANT FOR THE HALO 4 FORUM NOT HALO 3 FORUM
JPD354 has spoken.
Edit: I came in with a fresh mindset; I gave halo 4 two months. The things 343 added made halo a nooby experience. They didn’t add the things they did to make halo better but just to make it easier to play. After 10 years of halo, I can say I hate the new “halo” if you can even call it that.
At first I thought this would be a troll post, but I was wrong. Absolutely nailed it! Agree with every single thing you said. Yes it has been said before countless times but still nice to hear that there are as many of us as there are that think things are going in the wrong direction.
I probably don’t belong here, considering I love Halo 4 but…
You raise an excellent point. I think a lot of CoD has been put into it and Halo fans have every right to be angry. For you guys, I think you’ll rarely find skill in Multiplayer, and use it in Campaign more often. Everything is basically being handed to you with ordnance, grenade indicators and the auto aim assist. With all the differences, Halo is changing. For the worse or better, well, that’s all opinion. For example, I have played Infection, and I thought the Energy Sword mechanic was wonderful! With Flood, I feel it’s taking a step in Halo mythos AND making a multiplayer mode, so for me, that was a plus. The vehicle complaint is valid in your opinion, the Ghost, Scorpion and Banshee can be trolls, but I think you need to be aware at all times to see them to hijack or plant a grenade. This may not be your opinion of “skill” but it fits my definition. Map design is crucial to a great multiplayer experience, and yeah, 343i could have done better here, but every playlist, and every map has it’s advantages. Good post you got going here, and I’m with you on reason 5 one hundred percent.
For crying out loud, everyone knows Halo 1/2/3 were better than what we have now. It’s a well established general opinion (from competitive players, casuals not so much). So please, I beg of you… Can you stop making me remember how great of an experience Halo used to be and allow the memory to fade so I don’t feel as aggrieved every time Halo 4 goes in my disc tray? Honestly I’d appreciate it very much. Still like Halo 4 though, just… Roll on the TU (I’m probably expecting too much).

you know you dont have to say your leaving for a match when creating a post right?
people still rush spawns. the fact they dont spawn again balances map game play and give more map movement.
yea flinch is kinda dumb but its tolerable same as zoom-out
ordnance is not actually random if anything 343i failed to achieve this, every map spawns certain weapons like adrift is sticky detonator and needler, Ragnarok is sniper and binary not truly random. even personal ordnance is not random i find that every time i get more sniper kills than rifle or cqc weapons im rewarded with another sniper, if i do more cqc i get swords, shotguns and rockets. it still acts as if people are finding weapons on the map.
people still start the game exactly the same, everyone has access to the weapons for loadouts giving equal play. the fact a dmr is better than a suppressor is a tweak they need to fix and not because you can spawn with it.
sprint does not ruin the game, it allows more map versatility than sticking to a sword spawn or speed boost and get the edge every time.
they didn’t add these because of COD they added them because of the new usage or sprint, new AAs, maps, and loadouts. imagine if everyone could unlimited sprint w/resupplying grenades and extra ammo stupid. and if they took those away it would not feel like halo. simply put they balanced the perks 10x better than COD by only giving us 2 limiting certain ones and while having no perk better than another. people associate it with cod because of the dexterity perk. there’s more than just one
skipping infection cause its basically the same
chat systems are being toned down due to an offensive community blame the kids who yell, scream and swear every second they die
they only 2 maps in H4 i cant stand are complex and meltdown. after those they are all pretty good, they compliment the new game play nicely. you can see how older maps (Ragnarok) aren’t quite as fluid with the new systems
snipers have low aim assist and low magnetism EXCEPT the beam rifle, which seems to work flawlessly compared to its UNSC brother
i dont see a problem even with the indicator everyone still dies from a nade and still gets stuck, and hell some players are really good with the pulse nades. no problem here
the “X” is prob the only point i agree on.
being bias and having nostalgia can cloud the mind when comparing how 2 completely different games work relative to each other, you have to be open minded and give thought as to why they added features or took things away. i dont think halo 4 was the best, it has some improvements but so far its the best a more solid halo we’ve had that dont need a lot of fixes (halo reach)
And you cant complain that halo 4 is not like 3, we have halo 3, you said you just played halo 3, halo 4 is new a fresh. getting used to change is never easy but thinking clearly with a fresh mindset can make a difference.

Thank you for this post. I have been playing halo for 10 years as well and when you have kids winning games consistantly with a hardlight shield and assault rifle… yeah thats not competitive halo. I used to hate cod but I like it 10 times better than halo 4…343 should have followed halo not COD because instant spawns and drops dont work with the way halo plays… either does sprint… sorry 343 you have lost a 10 year fan of halo probably for good cause i know you arent fixing this one… also 4 of my other friends who played as long quit last week too we gave it a shot for a few months but you ruined competitive halo.
lolz halo 4 is nowhere near cod. But I do agree that halo 3 was a better game, it was more balenced. Halo 4 and reach just seem to be a race to the power weapons and vehicles. The team that wins is the team that gets to the power weapons and vehicles first.
I don’t agree with you. About halo 4 being a bad halo game that is…
But you bloody bet I respect you.
You know why. Because you liked Halo 3 better, so guess what you are playing Halo 3 instead of just playing Halo 4 and filling the air with a pollution of your negativity.
If all the whiners did what you have done and went back to Halo 3, not only would they all be happy and have a player base to play Halo 3 with eachother, but it would also leave the Halo 4 players alone. A great solution if you ask me.
You sir are part of that. Kudos to you. Who says people who dislike H4 and who like H4 can’t come to some sort of understanding?
Of course there are things I miss as well, but I accept the reality that they will never return in future Halo games, and thus spare everyone my whining.
I miss the old days of Halo 3, too. It seems like the simplicity of the older games made for a certain kind of fun. It seems that 343 focused too much on changing up Halo, that some of the past elements didn’t seem to show through as well.
Anyway, if only true classic playlists can be added to Halo 4 so that the older Halo multiplayer can be experienced by more people. Hopefully, if ever added, it won’t be like in Reach. Those classic playlists weren’t very popular and didn’t feel the same as the older games.
OP: I sold my Xbox 360 about 3 years ago along with all my games. I recently was given a 360 Slim and Halo 4 as a birthday present. After playing Halo 4 for a while, I grew tired of a lot of the flaws that I quickly noticed in the game so I decided to go to my local game store and purchase all of the prior Halo games for the 360 (Halo 3, Halo Reach and Halo Anniversary) which only cost me about $50 all up. After getting to a 25 in Lone Wolves, one thing really got on my nerves: the huge bullet spread. The precision weapon spread in Halo 3 is its biggest flaw and that is the one thing I like about Halo 4 over 3: at least in 4 the DMR is actually precise. Halo 3 is a more challenging and fair game overall than Halo 4, but the lack of precision with the BR and Carbine really does ruin the game in the same way that things like Camo etc ruined Halo 4. Halo 3 in that sense is just a watered down version of Halo 2, which we sadly no longer have access to, which in turn was a noobified version of Halo 1. Halo 3 isn’t as rosy as people make it out to be. Does this problem with spread infuriate you as much as it does with me?
Halo 4’s movement feels very wonky kind of like reach did, but more so. The one thing I would like to say is why do gaming companies feel the need to essentially copy aspects of other games that are successful for that company… This used to be the most successful franchise. I bought this game wanting to play halo, not a reach/cod infused disc that fails to give any competitive playlists…
I know reach was a halo game… First step back for that franchise albeit.
The thing is halo 2 and 3 were games ahead of their time, online ranks, clan matches in 2 were amazing, and where they did they go? Yeah people cheat, but who cares, that’s why you have a community team to ban these fools… I mean it seems logical to bring back things that worked for your franchise, and not borrow things from others.
My main gripe here is that the more I play, the more it doesn’t feel like the franchise I feel in love with, wether it be reach or halo 4. The movement doesn’t feel like halo, severe auto aim, the easy assault rifles, the kill cam?.. Like seriously am I playing COD… I want halo not cod… And not some twisted love affair between the two…
You mean you missed the good old days when people were in the Halo 3 forums complaining about that game and how it’s not like Halo 2 when that was the good old days?

Not the op but I’ve been playing Halo 3 again recently waiting for some Halo 4 fixes and the spread is a problem that’s for sure. I can’t tell if it is really bad or I’m just not used to it like I was back when I played it alot, I think that was Halo 3s biggest issue(well along with the net code) but they did get most other things right with it.
Yeah this isn’t Halo. Even the campaign isn’t i’m sorry. People keep talking about things that Halo CODified but i’ve never seen somebody actually talk about the biggest problem involved with this. The ENTIRE game is more “humanized” I used to pop in Halo games and have a “Alien/futuristic/space/Sci-fi/unrealistic” feel when I played it. Now it’s moving towards modern and realistic etc. I mean wth I don’t recall masterchief ever talking so damn much. He used to go in and run -Yoink-, the green devil. That’s the master chief I know. Not sprinting because his normal movement speed was crazy or flinching because he’s way stronger and simply not a regular Human being. Or at least that’s how I always felt about him but now it’s just some guy in a suit. And of course they had to switch the entire multiplayer that way as well. Sprinting jetpacks flinching and -Yoink-. That may be reach but not the original Halo series. I wouldn’t have been this disappointed if they called it Reach 2.0.
