I miss the brutes...

Fighting brutes in campaign was awesome. They were the ultimate in badassery. They had personality and a crude barbaric style that really made you feel like you were engaging a real enemy. The characterization that was done on them was fantastic. The brute chopper, the brute shot, and the hammer all enhanced an already dynamic character.

The elites, grunts, and jackals all have their own unique vibe also. Each one has a distinct personality which always makes fighting them interesting and fun.

To me, the biggest disappointment in the new campaign are the knights. They have no personality. They are lifeless hulls without any style of their own. You are forced to take them down to move through the game, but they feel more like obstacles than opponents that draw you in. If Halo 4 was a football game, the knights would be a blocking sled.

I think the problem is that instead of developing the character, they instead relied on gimmicks. The ability to transport, the bold skull, the weird grenades and weapons, none of them can rescue the knights from being a dull and lifeless opponent that doesn’t bring anything to the game.

And don’t get me started on the watchers.

They are machines, they are supposed to be lifeless. They are big 12 foot tall enemies of course they are going to be stiff if they were jumping around flipping I’d feel they didn’t make sense.

> They are machines, they are supposed to be lifeless. They are big 12 foot tall enemies of course they are going to be stiff if they were jumping around flipping I’d feel they didn’t make sense.

Theoretically they are humans bounded by forrunner machines, but overall their movement is rather rigid. The brain-feeding flood of halos ce-3 had smoother movements ffs.

Rocks are lifeless too, but at least you aren’t forced to fight them.

What I am saying is that if your intention is to create lifeless machines that are not enjoyable to fight, you should probably go to plan b.

And the knights aren’t machines. They are human cyborgs

I don’t miss them (especially the ones in Halo 2) but I did enjoy how funny the H3 Brutes could be. Reach Brutes could also be amusing with their friendly fire grenade sticks.

As for the Knights, I’m disappointed how they’re being depicted as mooks compared to concept/when they were introduced at E3.

> E3: holy -Yoink-, that Knight is an equal match for Chief! Holy -Yoink-, there’s so many of them!
>
> Scanned: wow, Chief’s plowing through 7 of them. Maybe it’s because he ambushed them…
>
> November 6: holy crap, these Knights are tough
>
> 3 months later: wow, these Knights are cheap and total pushovers and grenade spammers
>
> Spartan Ops:
>
> marines being pathetic but still managing to kill Knights
> Lasky killing Knights with little effort
> Palmer getting ambushed

It would seem they’re better suited for ambushes yet we rarely see them do this in-game.

343 have finally implemented sleeping grunts. How about including ambushing Knights? There’s been small signs of this in Episode 4 when they spawn in front of the button but that’s about the only Knight surprise in Spartan Ops.

Well they are humans that are digitized, meaning the humanity isn’t there anymore, it even says some of the original Prometheans got digitized also. Hence why I said they are more machine than human. The thing about the rocks are even though rocks are lifeless, rocks don’t shoot back at you.

I liked the Prometheans they introduce a support system that I think in due time will be fixed and expanded upon like the original Elites of Halo.

Halo 2 brutes are my favorite.

Halo 2 Brutes actually fit the name more.

They’re turrets with big shoulder pads.

I mostly miss their weaponry. Bruteshot and Chopper anyone?

I miss them too. If the get brought back, make them more like Halo 2/3 brutes. The reach ones were way to civilized. The Halo 2/3 brutes are much more violent!

> Halo 2 Brutes actually fit the name more.

Halo 2 Brutes were damage sponges, su much that they could go on close combat with a hunter and actually win… ON LEGENDARY

Halo 2 Brutes when they berserked were a complete handful to deal with, especially on Legendary, made them seem very much like they are depicted in the novels.

I think we need a enemy introduced, could even be a Promethean, that is agile yet able to attack with complete Brute like force. Atleast a variant that is able to make quick dashes and fast powerful attacks that are almost impossible to dodge without some skill, would give the Prometheans a new much needed variant.

I think the Prometheans are interesting and fun to fight most of the time, but they do at times seem more like they are meant to get in your way to stall you instead of viciously destroy you.

The 2/3 Brutes were great. Replace the Prometheans with Brutes and you’ve got a nice game.

The Chopper was a great vehicle. I always loved smashing through enemy Warthogs.

Bringing up horrible memories of watching Brutes pummel anything at close range.

I also miss the Brutes, though mostly cause I like to have as many enemy types as possible (though I do not miss the Halo 2 Brutes. Those were not fun to fight).

I loved the Brutes from 2. H3 and reach we’re too easy to kill.

I would like to see Brutes in Halo 5 then we can start to tear them into bloody ribbons. =) hehehehehe
