I miss proximity chat

Some of my best halo memories where because of proximity chat in social in past halo game I met some of my best friends through proximity chat in matchmaking. I wish it would make way back to halo 5 or future titles nothing like mocking the enemy team while hiding in their spawn. What do you guys think did you guys enjoy this feature and hope it makes a come back?

It’s out of the question for Halo 5, but it may be a possibility for Halo Infinite.

I think if it makes a come back, it should be opt-in (or have an opt-out feature). Too much potential for abuse, otherwise.

I agree with this completely. Have you ever played on Halo: Reach where you hear somebody blasting static through the mic, the high pitched beeping sound from bad net code on the Xbox 360, blasting music through their headset (That is usually vulgar in nature), or just screaming erratically/making consistent weird sounds and it gets louder as they get closer? I’ve had that happen a good handful of times and in reality, it just gives off where they are at or coming from in a really obnoxious or annoying manner that is quite disruptive to their own team I am sure.

I usually just muted annoying people or turned my chat on team only back then

The bad net code sound I found a bit of humor in as I’ve always wondered why somebody would let their mic beep off the hook like that intentionally for upto 12 minutes, but the other stuff… was just cringey or annoying, and some people would wait until the game started to do so, so unless I did miss a feature in Reach (In which I feel kind of dumb for not knowing), just had to go through the game with the person on the opposing team doing that.

I always liked hiding in nerdy places and wait for some to come in my proximity and start commentary on them then watch them spin around trying to look for me.

It was one of the things that I hated being removed. It had a downside, but overall I think the good and funny experiences it created was worth having it in the game.

sorry don’t mind this post accidentally quoted something instead of editing

I do miss it as well. It was such an awesome thing to have people giving their positions away because they couldn’t stop breathing into their mic or chatting. But honestly I feel like game chat was defeated by the party system. Once that came out (I think midway through Halo 3’s reign), there was a huge drop in people using game chat.
