I might get flak for this, but on feedback for Infinite

It needs to change, like seriously change. I get it 110% people are angry about the over monetization. People are angry about the lack of playlists. Mind you, I AM one of those people. People feel they were lied to about a lot from 343. I totally understand that.

Not getting into what happened on Reddit last night but that is far from feedback, and not only did it affect the devs, but some Halo fans, got dragged into the hellfire also.

Every dev at 343 is human, let’s get that across. They wanted to make Infinite a live service game, and live service games aren’t easy to make. But when you have higher ups telling them what to do and how to go about it, there’s really no reasoning, it’s more “this is the route we’re going, so go and do it”

But dragging devs and fans alike with aggressive attacks, whether it’d be personal or whatever it is.

That’s not going to attract any new fans to Infinites MP, nor to the franchise as a whole.

It’s going to delay developmental changes to the game, mental health is a thing just in case you weren’t aware.

Feedback can be done constructively, and be done aggressively. But going over the edge with it to where it translates to stop being feedback and straight out personally attacking devs, is no longer feedback. It’s pretty much beating mentally on them till you get what you want. That’s not going to help change happen for Infinite, and it’s not going to bring change quicker either.

That’s all I gotta say.

I couldn’t agree more bud. I’m genuinely so disappointed in our community, I hope those in 343 don’t get disheartened

Changes would be made much easier and faster with both sides of the conversation taking a positive , constructive approach to the game and universe - not with hateful comments being thrown around like we saw on Reddit

On one hand I get what you’re saying. And people shouldn’t be too hard on the devs. On the other hand, if there isn’t a large backlash the higher ups at Microsoft won’t listen. The devs may care about the player base, but I don’t the higher ups pushing for this monetization and gutting of customization do. So the question then becomes, how do you voice your concerns in a way that is respectful to the devs, but let’s those at the top know they screwed up?

Some times I really feel that sadly we deserve to be treated like cash cows, specially seeing post like this.

Stop defending 343, they are big boys and girls and the knew what they were doing. This monetization system was not by mistake.

Almost all of the Reddit posts were positive, they try to suggest things, sent feedback about what is wrong and point out BS when spotted (too difficult to make a filter for matchmaking? Really?) and yes, thing get bad but ofc they will do when you learn that BP content es cut so they can sell it later. I guess you can put Joseph Staten in 343, but you can’t change 343

Repeat after me: pointing BS and lies of a company that is trying to get all my money is not Toxic behavior

The problem is when some players keep going on and on and on and on and on and on about it when the developers have said we hear you and we are going to make changes.

Then these players go on to make death threats and doxx developers. That behavior is not okay. It has gotten out of hand at this point. It’s a video game. One that a lot of us enjoy playing. The developers are human though.

Our feedback has been heard, and if things don’t change, then don’t play. Speak with your wallet.

I didn’t see what happened on Reddit, only the aftermath lockdown.

Obviously any time people go beyond criticisms and critiques, and make it personal, attack people, invade their private lives, that’s just… Obviously such a person needs to stop, breathe and ask themselves how they’re getting that angry. How they’re letting themselves get that angry. Because you choose how you respond to things.

I hope no one came to harm, physical, emotional or otherwise, and that everyone at 343 is fine, well, and able to properly contextualise any abberant behaviour as that of people who are best left be.

But I can’t say I’ve seen much that got personal. Some of it did, and that’s bang out, but there are a lot of really valid criticisms, and a real need to be heard and keep the pressure on.

Because, if we take the Flights as an example, we were NOT heard, or, a lot of people were not heard / were ignored. We’re not a monolith. No group represents all Halo fans. But, yeah, what I saw, what I read from 343, didn’t mesh.

A lot is piling up to make it difficult to not think Infinite has been aggressively, intentionally, monetised, to an extent that undermines the franchise multiplayer experience, and is a sour note on top of an awesome foundation. Which I would suggest is categorically against the interests of the player, and done in such a way as to actively oppose the promised avoidance of FOMO, and player first approach.

I’m not even saying Halo can’t be monetised. But as it is, gutting the base customisation, walling off personalisation in colours, continuing Halo 5s baffling ditching of personalised emblems… All while making the Battlepass pretty lame (no complaints here about it taking a season to complete, but there isn’t a lot in it, and there is evidence to say it’s even had stuff removed, all while having its length doubled). You could EASILY Monetise Infinite better: AI voices/AIs, Announcers, actual MICRO transaction pricing (not the current Macro pricing) on coating patterns, weapon charms, bling.

Now. Absolutely NONE of that excuses unacceptable behaviour.

But, and please, do tell me if I am in error and in what way, pointing that out is also not toxic. Hopefully no one thinks it is.

Of course, I (and others) could just walk away. It’s only a game.

But why am I bothering, again and again? Why am I expending my finite time? Because I care about Halo. It’s been special to me for nearly 2 thirds of my life thus far. Because the foundation of the Infinite multiplayer is so freaking good, that to brush it off would be a bigger disservice to 343 than anything else.

People, humans, OBVIOUSLY, poured their hearts and souls into this game. The criticisms aren’t for them. They’re for 343, the company. Because right now, they’ve got solid gold, and someone/some group at 343, is taking all that love, passion and talent, and letting it down.

And it’s just super unnecessary, and super disappointing to witness.

So here is another voice, yammering into the wind, full of hope, but… Is it misplaced?

Magnitude of feedback does not equal severity of criticisms. It’s possible to have lots of negative feedback on things without being vitriolic.

The problem is REDDIT.
Worst site on the internet, filled with fedora tipping, lukewarm IQ sheep. Rewards people for devoting themselves to groupthink. Redditors constantly scramble to prove that they are “one of the crowd” because they fear alienation, and will just parrot the same opinion louder and louder competing with each other for UPDOOTS until they get to the point they are at now where they are foaming at the mouth acting like 343 is committing war crimes against children. Happens with every single topic that ever gets cursed with a subreddit.

Halo Infinite multiplayer is amazing. Plays incredibly well and in my opinion is the best competitive fps game to be released for years. Leaps and bounds ahead of cod and battlefield, even with the limitations it is currently experiencing.

I agree OP, Obviously it needs work. Obviously 343 know it needs work, and they have pointed out multiple times on multiple platforms that they are listening and making changes, but changes take time. The criticism of the in game shop and excessive prices are also perfectly justified and should be raised by us, but we need to target the practice, not the individual employees.

I think the best solution is to find where the reddit servers are and just yeet a plasma grenade at them

So then Unyshek should’ve posted to a place centered around Halo, made by Halo devs. I wonder where a place like that is. I should google it!

Well said. Devs get more useful info from constructive feedback instead of just calling them bad. Tell 343 what you dont like. Tell them what you do like. Tell them what you want to see in the future. That is the kind of info they can use to give us the game we all want.

I do not fault the developers in any way, shape or form. Nor do I fault the community managers.

I’m still frustrated, but I blame the suits. Not the people who actually work on this game.

I highly doubt executives directed them on how to implement the monetizarions. THEY aren’t the programmers and 343 could’ve executed it better. There are NO armor pieces that can be unlocked without paying for it unless you’re l00 whatever. So there are choices (very few) outside the battle pass but WAY off. Which tells me they could’ve easily made the more exotic stuff for the pass and the decent stuff through normal means in larger sums. We are left with almost nothing. Which is crazy, only thing unique about me is the Nerf skins I have as gifts from a friend. That’s it.

The developers share fault In this. Especially when it comes to the non battle pass stuff. No slayer only Playlist in Halo??? Seriously? Ain’t no way the execs can get blame for that.

Frequent but detailed and with direct proof. Saying yoink you to the devs wont solve anything. MIght just make it worse really.

I hope they do get disheartened. Just because they make a game that was made great by the previous IP holders does not mean 343 craps gold. They’ve failed in making an expandable UI for a game with a 10 year plan. They’ve gutted the battlepass before launch because they want more money from the players. They make excuses that aren’t valid. Server costs are expensive man, it’s not like 343 is owned by one of the largest server providers in the world. People don’t want to play objective modes if slayer is something they can choose, well maybe you could incentivize people to participate… Maybe with some sort of challenge system that’s already in the game. They can’t fully develop a single game in 6 years when the previous IP holders made THREE fully featured games in that time frame across two different consoles and two different platforms. All of their excuses are of their own doing and incompetence and greed.

It’s time to accept the truth. 343 is as incompetent as their namesake. Thank you Microsoft for Game Pass because one month is all I need to get through the most stripped down “Halo” game yet. The only way it could be better is if I got it pre-owned to give 343 any less money but I like PC.

I would love to say the toxic reactions are from a ton of new F2P players joining the fanbase, but honestly the halo community has been kinda toxic for a long time :frowning:

Just had a great idea, and will start a forum post for it, but I think it will appeal to fans, as well as 343 and their corporate overlords.

What if they awarded just a small amount of credits by playing the game. Halo 5 did this, and used buying loot boxes as a way to bypass playing the fame, but if there was some way to get credit aside from our wallets, the store could stay at its price. 343 will make money because whales will be whales, and the dedicated players can feel rewarded for their time and effort.

Not buy the battle pass or anything from the shop. That’s the only way you’ll change this system.

Action not words.

Talking has long since gone with this publisher/developer…

They were referencing the reportedly doxxing and death threats that Redditors were performing on the Halo subreddit. Apparently it wasn’t even exclusive to 343 employees. That’s what they’re saying can’t happen, not harsh criticism or feedback. There is nothing toxic about feedback, but doxxing and death threats are. Harsh feedback can be given without having to resort to personal attacks no matter how angry people are.

And let’s be honest here, Reddit is known for being a toxic environment. Made an account for it and literally deleted it within 2 hours after reading people trying to crucify Marty O’Donnell over Bungie suing him for releasing Destiny music he made.

The Halo community is THEE MOST TOXIC COMMUNITY in gaming.
Speak highly of Halo 4 or Halo 5 and get hated on for doing so, speak actual criticism on why Halo 3 actually isn’t that great of a game and get hated on.

In my opinion, 343 Industries destroys Bungie when it comes to story telling and expanding its universe.
Look at Bungie and tell me what the story is in destiny…
Even with Halo, Bungie recon’d so much of the Halo universe.
Those who defend bungie fail to realize, bungie would of heavily monetized Halo if they renewed there licenses with Microsoft.
The hate 343 is receiving, as negative as it is… THEY DO DESERVE IT, but the fan base did allow this to happen, in fact, I do blame Halo Youtubers for really trying to dictate what 343 Industries does with Halo, The Halo Youtubers are always trying to use there platforms to speak for everyone else, before you defend any of them, remember, most of them have been playing Halo Infinite since the start of January 2021, from Campaign too Multiplayer, at any point, they could of spoken up and said something, but didn’t.

READ THE COMMENT SECTION OF THIS TWEET from UberNick, He and all of them will say anything but defend the community’s best interest when it comes to Halo.

The question I have is did any of the people playing Infinite early have any way to see what progression would be at launch? I ask this because during the first flight we had the 20 tier pass with pretty fast progression. So it may be possible that 343 was focused solely on giving Forerunners only gameplay and didn’t give them progression of any kind.

As for Halo YouTubers dictating what 343 does with Halo, they’re not the only ones. 343 has also had all of the other forum sites to give them feedback over the years and direct the direction of the franchise. While Halo YouTubers of course don’t represent everyone, I’d say they do represent a good number of the player base. If they truly didn’t, then they more then likely would not have theses large followings.

And for Halo being the most toxic community, I think you think this because you’re spending too much time on Reddit or feedback posts on Waypoint. When you’re actually in game with other players toxicity isn’t really prevalent. I’ve encountered a few toxic players, but no where near enough to go ahead and label the whole community as toxic. Harsh or constructive feedback given by players does not equate to a community being toxic. On the other hand, death threats and doxxing do lend themselves to a toxic community.
