I haven’t seen many people talking about this and I’m curious to see if people agree with me. I have a prediction that the Halo community as a whole will go through a really interesting phase with Halo Infinite.
Halo 5 was disappointing to many of the Halo fans, but there is also a good amount of people that still play Halo 5 to this day. It’s hard to say the exact percentage of the Halo fanbase liked Halo 5, but it feels like there is a substantial amount of people who liked AND disliked Halo 5.
Meanwhile, 343 has worked on the wonder Halo MCC. Over the years it has seen improvements, such as it’s introduction to the PC platform and it’s exposure being on Xbox Game Pass. It even has cross platform. So naturally, those that didn’t like Halo 5, like myself, have scurried off to Halo MCC to replay their favorite childhood games with friends.
Halo 5 and Halo MCC have been brewing their communities separately for a while now. Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer will be cross-platform and free, expanding it’s reach further than it’s ever been. I think that Halo Infinite will reveal to us one of the most interesting community clashes we’ve seen happen to Halo yet. I can only imagine Halo purists arguing about balancing changes and Halo 5 players having to re-learn a Halo game without advanced movement. This isn’t a pessimistic view as much as it is an excited one. I can’t wait to be in the middle of this and see which “side” 343 takes, which fans overwhelm which, and who will stick around and who will go back to their old favorites?
Something like this can honestly be a breeding grounds for some really exciting changes and advances for Halo as a franchise. What do you guys think? A diverse and loud fanbase will likely result in some really fun arguments in lobbies. I wonder if 343 will even be ready for all of this noise? Are they prepared to compromise and follow through with their decisions for the game? It’s all so exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of it. Of course, I hope for the best for Halo Infinite, but I’m curious what your guys’ thoughts are on this? Will this destroy Halo or will something awesome come out of it?
I made a video on this to show some proof for my points. It’s not the most serious essay or anything, but if you’re interested to see a more in depth explanation for this fanbase split check it out
