On my Xbox One X, first of all, it takes me forever to actually launch the game. It will pop up the title screen, sit there for about a minute, then the screen will go black (presumably switching to HDR) and then it will sit there for maybe a good 5 minutes, sometimes. Every time I launch the game now, I know to just put the controller down and go do something else and hope it eventually decides to launch.
Once I get in the game, whenever I pop up the guide, once I dismiss the guide, the game will freeze 100% of the time. I then have to sit there for anywhere from 1-5 mins before it will spring to life again and I can continue. So I just can’t ever hit the guide button when I’m running MCC. If I tell Alexa to record stuff or do other console commands, it won’t freeze. It’s just the act of bringing the guide up.
If I go select anything in the campaign, once I choose a game, the game will freeze for possibly the longest time. 5 mins at least. It will also freeze again for about a minute before launching into anything, campaign or multiplayer. This has caused many disconnection problems, I’ve spawned into games by myself or had connection issues put me back to the main menu. I always seem to get into games later than everyone else, I spawn in and it seems like everyone has already been playing for a couple seconds. Often player icons won’t load.
Another time it will freeze is right after I select ‘search’ for matchmaking. Will freeze for about a minute here.
When it’s frozen, there’s no game audio or any signs of life. Everything just pauses. The system isn’t affected, I can bring up guide fine (but I don’t because I know that just makes it worse).
This whole thing is kind of a nightmare. I tried to add 4 controllers for split screen a few weeks back and it took nearly half an hour because it would freeze after every time you select a profile in the guide.
Once I get into a game, everything is fine (as long as I don’t hit the guide button). So I imagine this is some sort of problem with the menu system.
I’m on Xbox One X running Dolby Atmos, HDR10, the game off of an external SSD. Pausing after coming out of the guide has always been a problem for me, all the way back to when I was playing on my old launch day Xbox One, which makes me think something is ‘corrupted’ with the account.
But the funny thing is, I can play on my Xbox One S just fine and nothing happens. That led me to try all kinds of troubleshooting. None of this stuff worked:
hard resetting, factory resetting, turning off HDR and Dolby audio. Turning off 4k. Reinstalling. Installing to a different external HDD and installing to internal drive. Trying it on WiFi instead of Ethernet. Changing DNS. My NAT is open and the Xbox Live required ports are open. I’ve had this issue in every Xbox preview program ring, and the console is currently NOT in the preview program. I’ve even uninstalled a ton of other games and ran it on less than a quarter full drive, thinking maybe Xbox was having problems running with Such a full drive or something.
I have nearly all the achievements, I’ve often wondered if it’s getting bogged down by loading all that info. But that’s just because I’m completely clueless at this point.
So yeah, anything left to try?
