The microtransaction + free dlc is one of the best pricing model in the gaming right now. I think the season pass should be kill. I live in canada and with the poor dollar value right now a season pass cost way too much. Ex: Battlefront season pass is 70$.
People aren’t happy with remix map… but paying 70$ for map pack that half the game community will play is way more of a disaster for me. Keeping one big united community is a better decision for long term.
I’m more than happy with the free DLC and wish more AAA game use this model. Keep up the good work 343!

They’ll blame the model they’re using, and pinning it as the problem, no doubt.
When, in reality. It’s more likely just their execution. I’m happy with this current model over a season pass. Also means that we get bug fixes and new features by the month.

bugs fixed and free content from a company that actually listens to the players. They might not react as quickly as we want but they do listen
The game has changed, and people don’t like change. However, after learning from Halo 4 (it wasn’t THAT bad) they’ve made significant improvements. I am satisfied.
Well I don’t think Battlefront is the norm with its $60 season pass (I think it’s 60 not 70) or a good comparision either. And seeing how people react and feel about the system (EA’s), I doubt any game will follow/ be successful like that again.
Most season passes are $30 with oftentimes a lot more of content than just asthetics, which H5 is riddled with and every update more.
Don’t get me wrong, I like free maps as much as anybody else. But I can’t agree that it is better in light of how awful Battlefront’s season pass is, every game looks better in comparision.
And 343 isn’t exploiting anything either. But it’s the best we will probably be getting.
The hidden premise is that you can’t have free DLC unless its funded by micro-transactions. That’s not something I really agree with. At any rate the micro-transactions could be executed way better.

This is a subjective argument. I’ve seen plenty of games where the season pass hardly gives you the “bang for your buck”, so to speak. Also nonwithstanding that Halo maps are more methodically made, and none of the others on the console have the content creation tools that we have.
IMO, the only true shortcoming is the lack of game modes. Remixes are content, in my eyes. I don’t agree with the community mentality that seems to be prevalent here that certain types of content count as “content.” I’m curious why people decided to give Bungie free passes in a similar regard with firefight (which blatantly re-used areas, only to add two more through paid DLC) but are suddenly not okay with it here. (And at least they redress them satisfactorily instead of copying and pasting outright).
I personally can’t agree with the concept of DLC here because so many people I’ve met refuse to buy paid DLC. Content Updates are a better way to get it to everyone and (imagine that) being able to play the maps that are added through here. Whereas in previous titles, you would see those new maps maybe only a dozen times (if even that).
Frankly, I’ll take the microtransactions over a community division. I can have my cake and eat it too.

I didn’t argue remixes weren’t good enough. I’ve enjoyed all map additions so far (haven’t played BTB yet) and, while I understand that a “remix” might sound to some as a cheap way to reuse some assets, I certainly disagree as well. Riptide is just fine, despite being based on Fathom.
And firefight reusing maps from the campaign? Give me that in Halo:5 and I won’t mind at all, it’s more content and I played the crap out of ODST’s and Reach’s firefight, no matter where it took place. Heck I’d even pay for it.
I will never support micro-transactions in a game, seems too greedy. And these free updates are complete BS, they only release 1 map at a time and both of them for Arena are complete garbage, straight up trash design (overgrowth + riptide)
So no, i don’t support of these methods by 343, i rather have community split up by having paid DLC because then maybe we can get some real content

in my opinion its either we could have paid for the same exact amount of content in one chunk and gotten it every 3-4 months or get a steady stream of stuff every month for free with the option to buy anything at all.
Too bad the quality of the content has declined with this business model change. You would never see “remixes” as part of a paid DLC.
The advantage to switching models should be getting the same quality of content to more players, but that isn’t what has happened. I would have expected the content they have put out so far to be to be free regardless of the DLC model in place. There would have been riots had they tried to sell any of it as standard DLC so I don’t see how anyone could really be singing the praises of the new system when it has yet to actually deliver on the initial promise. It doesn’t help that the game is still playing catch-up compared to past Halo games.
Not to mention that none of it is really “free” anyways. It doesn’t matter if you don’t spend a single cent on REQ packs. If you are not paying with your money, you are paying with your time grinding on the RNG treadmill or you are paying with your willpower because of said grind. Even if you have an iron will, the fact of the matter is that your will is being tested.

you would never see anything like a remake of a map after a nuke hit or a future version of the same map?

I believe that an industry whether gaming or other, needs to find creative ways of bringing people back. I for one think it’s a smarter way than some of the ways that other companies are trying to keep people coming back.

Even a remake requires new assets to be built into a new engine. I guarantee you would never have seen remixes in a paid DLC.
