I love the new warthogs - not sarcasm (vehicles in general I been a fan of)

I created an account just to weigh in on warthogs because I heard people complaining about it apparently being made of ‘paper machete’.

I love that it’s health/when it blows up is indepedent to your own health. I love that on a fresh warthog, if you get stuck by a plasma grenade at the front of the hog, but not the player, you won’t instantly die. I love that you have to care about the condition of your vehicles and that because your health is not tied to it, we are able to make vehicles way more durable.

my experience with the warthog has been comparible to halo 3 beta (my favourite warthog) has mobility, has health, does really good damage (if your gunner know how to prioritize targets and be aiming the right place at the right time, they slaughter five people in five seconds quite easily).

Because the warthog now has lead shots, we were able to make it pack more punch with a higher skill cap, but capable ot mowing down boots on the ground and other vechiles. Also I love the maps, driving and outflanking on foot has been a blast as there has been a MASSIVE amount of depth to them.

I still feel like we are still in beta with our limited map rotation and lack of ability to make custom game setting (like when halo 3 released I immediately began making zombie settings that influenced other’s to come later in the year). But i love the vehicle experience. but damn its hard to get both a good gunner and driver at the same time as that’s what is needed to see those majestic beasts shine.

I do overall enjoy the Warthogs and believe they can be quite effective, its just a lot of the times you have drivers that’ll drive straight into the enemy base in BTB matches and quickly die because that’s when everyone’s grabbing the necessary Dynamo Grenades and other weapons to destroy them, not to mention enemy Warthogs that lead to mutual destruction.

When you’ve got a competent driver and gunner, they could provide plenty of support and getting into games where the enemy team has a pair of Warthogs and given free reign they can be quite devastating.

That said though, I do believe the Warthogs are a little too floaty. Even with the game’s apparent ability to let you “steer” it in mid-air, the slight hops and turns can lead to a full rollover are a bit too commonplace. Its health…I think it may be fine. While in BTB it can feel pretty weak, I think that’s mostly do to the additional amount of weapons that can take a Warthog out in this game (Skewers, Hydras, Shock Rifles, Dynamo Grenades), on Arena where the threats are more limited to a smaller team a Warthog can be a much more powerful force. In one game with a friend who was gunning and I was driving, 13 of his 16 kills were from me driving him around in a Warthog on Launch Site. It might still be good to have a slight buff in health though.

I think having a few more “open” maps introduced in the future can help as well and not just for the Warthog but vehicles in general, particularly the Scorpion Tank and the Chopper although those vehicles I do believe have their own issues that aren’t shared with the Warthog (both having rather poor handling and the Chopper itself needing a bit more power to its guns and its ability to “chop” vehicles when ramming into them).

Banshees definitely need a big boost in their firepower at the very least.

I didn’t get enough experience with the Warthogs. I spent around 50-60 hours in campaign and the vehicles were always useless next to an infinite grapple hook. The campaign map design has a lot to do with how useless the vehicles are but the biggest issue is the driving physics. The mongoose is so snappy its as if I’m watching a video on 2x speed, sometimes 4x speed. And everything else just constantly flips over.

Oh yeah, and the Warthog doesn’t slide. In theory it should be the easiest to handle Warthog ever made, if it didn’t flip so easy. Personally found it more fun when it used to slide around.

I dont find it flips easier… but like all halo warthogs flipped easily if you didn’t know what you were doing. But like im the crazy lunatic that drives through buildings. I did notice the maps do not allows a convenient use of vehicles gaining you travel speed. But that just makes vehicles more an option than a mandatory thing. I like vehicles for combat purposes. I been mostly playing multiplayer so I can’t comment too much on the singleplayer expreince

Yeah, hogs in all of the franchise seemingly flip very easily.
A lot of people don’t seem to grasp the concept of slowing down before hitting jumps or taking tight turns, which greatly increases you’re control on the vehicle to keep it from flipping.

The vehicles in this game have no weight and control worse than Mom’s Minivan from Mass Effect. It’s like you’re affixed to the ground but the moment you drive over something not level you fishtail and or flip out of control.

I don’t like the Warthogs chaingun appearance, Halo 1 through 3 had it right, now its just circular bullets instead of the straight hailstorm snake look which was PERFECT.

Yeah I absolutely love using Warthogs (driving or gunning) in Infinite. The best thing by far in my opinion is that there is no cooldown on the gun, so its a lot more fun in that sense where you can just hold down the trigger like a madman and unload hot steaming piles of led into spartans without worry.

As OP said, they aren’t super OP, you need a good driver that doesn’t just move in a straight line towards the enemy base, but my oh my can they absolutely wreck if you got a couple of people that know what they are doing.

Two heads are better than one

I like it. I been an advid vehicle fan since halo 1.
Honestly though, the control.mid air thinf isntoo much control for me. And threw me off like crazy as im using to just gunning the throttle
