On these forums, some fantastic community brainstorming occurs. I’ve seen countless threads with some kickarse ideas. But some ideas I see are really cringe-worthy, IMO. I’ve seen threads saying that things like ‘Anti-gravity boots’, ‘Recon Drones’, and ‘whips’.
Can I start my rambling off by saying that Halo does not need other games’ ideas to make it a good game. There is no need for a Recon Drone, just because it’s in another successful game. This could well end halo because people will start to think ‘So what, they need to use other ideas from other games to keep it going? Lame…’ I don’t, I REALLY don’t, want to be a blind halo fan/COD hater but if you want a Recon Drone, go play COD! Why would you want to drag that over to Halo?
Halo has always been an arena shooter, meaning that every person starts with the same weapons and lack of equipment. We then use team tactics (well, sometimes…) to get power weapons that (If you’re on a good map) should be evenly placed between the two teams, so the weighting is not to much on one team. Things such as armour abilities messed up the balance of the game by offering a variety of different powers to each team. Instead of fighting for control for equipment, earning a few kills and hopefully map superiority, you can just run straight into a camping spot or rush right at that blue guy on the other side of the damn bridge and beat him. Now, I heard a topic about gravity boots to climb walls, but to be honest, this wouldn’t work. It offers virtually no positive effect to the game apart from making your enemy look further up when shooting. Not to mention ceiling camping, where you can just go all Spiderman and jump down on your opponent for a cheap and quick assassination. Will not work.
I’ll update this when I’m not being nagged at by my parents for making too much noise with the keyboard typing…
There’s this awesome feature called “Reply”. Instead of creating a thread to ramble about how you don’t like certain ideas, why don’t you post that in the thread pertaining to those ideas? This isn’t the first thread I have read from you like this. You want Halo 2. I get it. Maybe you could make a thread about that.
As for Gravity Boots, you can’t stand on the ceiling like Spiderman. They require momentum to run up walls and can only be accomplished on certain walls, never ceilings. Perhaps you should take the time to userstand the ideas you claim to dislike instead of disliking them for imaginary reasons that you have concocted yourself.
Games have been ripping off of Halo for years. I think they’d simply be returning the favor by taking ideas from other games as well. As long as the idea is expanded on and given a Halo coat of paint.
Firefight was taken from Gears 2’s Horde mode
It’s a bit creepy how similar Reach is to StarWars Battlefront
Reach’s ranking system was taken from CoD
Reach’s loadouts were taken from games like Battlefield
Reach’s space combat was taken from just about every flight combat game out there
etc.
As you can see, Halo has taken ideas from other games before. Every game does that, but what is going to separate it from “stealing” is if they expand on it, improve it, and make it their own.

-Firefight came from halo 1. Where in the level halo, drop ships land around you. And from the level truth and reconciliation, where enemy troops rush you from random doors. halo 1 came out before GOW
-never played battlefront
-In reach you are not rewarded for killing people. You are rewarded on performance.
-there are no, medic, support, or recon kits.
-a sci fi space combat that takes place on a different planet, was taken from a game that takes place in present day in earths atmosphere. wut?

You know we have vehicles, right? COD doesn’t,so they just put in advantages for killing a certain amount of people. Killstreaks would be unoriginal and uneeded. Not that I hate COD or its ideas, but its not Halo.

Thank you. Chances are if you are killing that many enemies in a row that you would secure vehicle control.
At least in CoD you don’t have players flip-flip-banshee bomb-boost repeating FOR THE WHOLE GAME.
People can’t understand when they bash certain elements of other games that analogs of those same elements exist in their favorite game.

So… you are making this thread to only point out flaws in other threads? Can’t you just post replies in those threads?

Totally agree dude, alot of ideas are great (like keeping halo to what made it great) but other can be horrible (like turning into a fast blue hedgehog and killing people by running into them ((no lie this was on one of burning globe’s threads, no offenese but some of your ideas globe are down right horrible and would make me want to tear my eyes out if I see them in halo 4)))

1.It IS my first thread about this. You might be confused with somebody else. I’m normally not too negative. I don’t reply too often, just facepalm and continue with my wandering through the forums.
2.Imaginary reasons… Yeah… How are these ‘imaginary’…?
Also, I don’t want Halo 2. Where did I mention it in my post. Because I don’t see it. Now your reading ‘imaginary’ threads.
EDIT: Are you mad because I bashed your ideas ColdFUSION? Well if that’s going to fuel your debate, and not your honest ideas, then I’m sorry. This thread is NOT for you. Gravity Boots would SUCK though.
