I just joined a game down 18 points. I can join down 18 in snipes but can’t get a new teammate when I’m up in throwdown koth?!? Seriously 343, whoever is making the matchmaking decisions needs to look back at Halo 3’s matchmaking system and take notes. The game plays fine, it’s just the stupid stuff involved with join in progress and ranks that are ruining the series that I am dedicated to. In Halo 3/ODST, I found about 4 legit teammates that I ran with consistently. Of that 4, 1 didn’t even buy REACH because it didn’t have a ranking system other than true skill so I lost that teammate and was down to 3. The next one bought COD and switched back and forth between it and REACH (mostly playing COD). He also bought Halo 4 but recently traded it in after he was let down that 343 put a ranking system (that he had to look up). So now with two teammates left. One switched to COD altogether, not long after Halo 4 came out. I’m pretty sure he also would have continued with Halo had there been a good ranking system. Now I have 1 teammate left! 25% of my good friends that I’ve met through Halo continue to play the game!!! Thanks a lot 343! I’m not going to stop playing Halo like 75% of my friends did, because I’m dedicated to the game. I suffer through the dumb things in matchmaking in hopes that one day Halo will be made good again. Even if it never comes, I will hold on to that hope. Most people won’t though. Please fix your mistakes. Make matchmaking as close to Halo 3 style as possible. Stop worrying about changes such as fixing kill times on certain weapons and implementing new maps into the playlists. Fix the two big problems or else Halo will continue its decline.
Firstly, JIP mostly likely focuses on putting people into games where the short team are losing over those who are winning.
Second, in game ranks are not needed, it’s a nice thing to have, but it’s not needed, what’s needed is a system that actually works, and matches people up based on their skill alone, then the “need” for a visible “rank” next to everyone’s GT is no longer there. And it’s too late to put visible in game ranks into the game, 343i has stated this.
Also, that’s 100% your opinion, and your friend’s opinions.
343i is fixing things like weapon balance because some weapons are under powered, and others are overpowered, thus people are complaining about them, so they made it so they can adjust said weapons without the need of a Title Update/patch, and everything else, they’re fixing slowly with TUs. Your two big problems aren’t the same problems that other people feel are major make or break problems.

JIP puts me in games where I am down all the time. JIP in ffa ALWAYS starts a player off losing. It doesn’t work. JIP and ranks do not mix.
In game ranks ARE needed. The ranks online is better than no ranks at all, to me, but to some people it is worse because it’s like 343 knows there should be ranks but doesn’t know that they should be in game. In game ranks are needed because most people would prefer in game ranks. Many people have left the Halo series simply because there are no longer in game ranks. It’s not only my opinion that in game ranks are better. The lack of in game ranks causes people to stop playing Halo. Therefore, it is fact that they are better because people playing Halo is better than them not playing. If they REALLY can’t put in game ranks in their own game (I have my doubts), then they should make a strong definite statement assuring Halo players that in game ranks will be in the next Halo game.
> In game ranks ARE needed.
Explain to me why in game ranks are needed? What use do they have other than show you’re matched up to other people of equal rank?
> If they REALLY can’t put in game ranks in their own game (I have my doubts)
Oh, so YOU understand how Halo’s Engine stores it’s data!? Tell me, what’s the meaning of the .map files in Halo? Can you tell me that?
> then they should make a strong definite statement assuring Halo players that in game ranks will be in the next Halo game.
It’s still early to be saying anything about any future games. Could there be in game ranks in Halo 5? Maybe, is there a strong change? Who knows, I don’t even think 343i knows rather or not.

I already explained why they are needed. They are needed because more people want them than don’t want them. People stop playing Halo because there aren’t in game ranks. It gives the player something to work for and the feeling of seeing your rank go up is so much more satisfying when watching it happen right after a hard fought victory rather than waiting a couple games and searching online to see if it went up.
-
I don’t understand it but Bungie made changes to their in game ranking system after Halo 3 was already released so I’m not sure what is so different about Halo 4.
-
If they don’t know whether or not there will be in game ranks in H5, then there is a serious issue here. The population of Halo will continue to plummet.
I couldn’t agree with you more man. I’m seriously the only person out of all of my friends who still plays Halo consistently. Everyone else either switched to other games because they were disappointed with Halo 4, or they Just didn’t buy Halo 4 because they lost all hope for the franchise after Halo Reach. I agree with them but I try to stay strong. I hope and pray that Halo 5 will run on an updated halo 3 engine so me and my friends will be able to enjoy playing Halo like we did back in 2004 and 2007. But until then I will continue playing Halo 4 with the sad 50,000 other players who play it constantly. If 343 doesn’t answer the communities pleas for a fun, balanced, competitive, and most of all Halo 2/3 based Halo, I will have given up all hope and switch to another franchise that has some playable content, because if CoD has one thing going for it, it’s constancy.

As much as I would like to have visible in-game skill ranks, they are not actually “needed” for the game to play well.
In-game skill ranks are complementary features, a “meta game” on the side of the actual game.
Would this game actually have a good population and a good ranking system, it would suffer because of the JiP games that are either losses/wins without any player input. Then there’s the randomness that decides the winner rather than skill and skill alone, an unlucky team may as well lose several ranks because the ordnance they get isn’t as good as their opponents’ in several games. Or gain ranks due to being lucky.
I want in-game ranks, but they are not needed.
> 2. I don’t understand it but Bungie made changes to their in game ranking system after Halo 3 was already released so I’m not sure what is so different about Halo 4.
I don’t know why Bungie made the changes, but it could be because the constant whining of how a good player could go down in a team match because of bad team mates. Thus an individual ranking system was implemented. This was later changed back to win/losses as it was previously because the individual ranking system only promoted selfish gameplay. It was more beneficial for the player to betray a team mate for the rockets and get a few kills himself.
> 3. If they don’t know whether or not there will be in game ranks in H5, then there is a serious issue here. The population of Halo will continue to plummet.
I think they will put in visible ranks from the start because when Halo 4 launched, there was allready talk of having a skill based ranking system, but I bet it was because of time constraints that they didn’t have time to implement it.
So, I think it’s safe to say that in-game skill ranks will be present on launch day, this is of course how i343 sees it. If in-game ranks aren’t present, I do hope that they’ve thought so far as to make the UI in a way so that they can add in-game ranks later.

I already said I think the game plays just fine. Ranks aren’t needed to make the gameplay better. Ranks are needed because more people want ranks than don’t want them.
-
I was talking about the individual playlist ranks that they added. I didn’t even know about the other changes.
-
I sure do hope so.
Regarding JIP, I wish WE the gamers had the choice to use that or not.
I think the fairest way to have JIP is to allow the gamer to have a clickable slider/button/whatever to choose JIP or NOT. Also, as a party leader they alone would have the choice of the party to JIP or not.
Honestly, JIP has screwed me over in games MUCH MUCH more than it has ever done any good.
Now if there were a SOCIAL playlist with no ranks attached, then JIP is fine as it wouldn’t affect your rank. But that’s a whole other issue.

I agree. I didn’t care about losing until ranks came out, but some people still care about losing even without ranks. A social and a ranked set of playlists would definitely help this problem. Halo 5 - social and ranked playlists, jip in social and not in ranked. It would be perfect!
I like JIP for the times players drop off my team, and I even like it when the other team loses players. I think maintaining even teams is great.
However, I think JIP has increased quitting, and nobody likes joining a losing team. I think we need positive incentives for players to stay in games and stay on losing teams if they happen to join. For instance, jump onto a team that’s losing? If you stick with it and help them win, you get a “Hero” award. Make this a commendation or a flat-out end-of-match bonus.
Conceiving and combining stuff like this would really help maintain match integrity. As it is, JIP has solved the mis-matched teams problem, but it’s introduced other problems that affect integrity. If 343 found creative solutions for those issues, I think JIP would be a great addition to Halo matchmaking.
You say JIP is unfair to the people joining, but you forget the people its fair to.
The 2 or 3 teammates on the team you join who are down people because some little kid rage quit and are now hopelessly outmatched UNTIL you join.

dude idgaf about that I just joined a snipers game down 14 when the game was already halfway over. My team lost by 4 which just shows we would have won had I been in the game the whole time. But guess what!!! My rank is hurt because of it!!! If there is a jip make it with the scores no more than 5 away. When I join a game down 14, 18 etc, it’s -Yoink- dude and the fact that it hurts my rank just makes it that much worse.
I just started a game down 24 kills. I’m so done. 343 wtf guys.
JiP probably wouldn’t be so bad if the stats wouldn’t count, even if you lost or won, while having whatever happened count towards commendations.
Main issue isn’t joining the game. Its what the player is going to receive as a result of the system placing them there in the first place.
Therefore, I am voting on option Bacon: if JiP’s going to stay, let it not affect one’s rank and stats so that if they have to suffer, the only thing deranking is their sanity.
another ffa jip down over 20!!!
> another ffa jip down over 20!!!
I thought you said you were done?
> > another ffa jip down over 20!!!
>
> I thought you said you were done?
i’m so done
I bet the reason why 343i didn’t add an option/toggle for whether or not a player would like to join-in a JIP game is because they knew a lot of people would have turned it off. So they force you to do it.

- This is opinion… Please show proof.
- It was ALREADY programmed in the game, hence how they were able to make changes.
- This is just a rediculous statement altogether.
