I love getting OHK meleed in a game with barely functioning radar

If you can get one-shotted by a melee from behind, the radar should be changed to always show enemies as long as they’re within 5-10 meters, no matter if crouched or not.

Backsmacks have always rekt SPARTANs in Halo. It’s part of the currently absent assassination mechanic and something in the canon to do with the neural connection between a SPARTAN and their suit. Think Doc Ock from Spider-Man. But yes the radar needs to be buffed. You can get the drop on your opponents far too easily and they can do the same.

Ever played halo before?

18m is plenty of warning. Pay attention to your hud

it is NOT 18 meters, I paced it :joy:

it is not nearly enough time to see the radar, register that someone is there and then react to it before they are close enough to kill you. The problem is also compounded by the long effective range of the guns and the large open sight lines of the map. Reacting to enemy fire is almost always a losing fight. The lack of any meaning full audio queues (footsteps) required you to be look in all directions like “a cat tied to a ceiling fan by it’s tail”.

No way!? I’ve been meaning to test my theory that the since the radar range is “18m” by starting a custom game with a friend and trying to lay 9 SPARTAN (SPARTANs are ~2m tall) corpses in a line to show how short the radar’s range actually is.

Nope. First halo game, and I really really dislike this aspect of the game. Really stupid.

You have a radar for a reason

I don’t think you read my post. Either that or you’re playing a different game than I am, because this radar sucks. You don’t even have to crouch to stay off radar.

Getting OHK to the back is this franchises equivalent of getting assinated. A few previous titles actually had animations for it, but Infinite has gone back to the legacy way of doing it. The point is: Halo isn’t the game to hardscope in, never was.

What I will agree with is that the tracker needs tuning. Even at full stride people often don’t ping on that thing until they’re giving you a reach around. I find it the least useful tracker in the franchises history.

Thats the way radar works??? Crouching is a way to sneak around and be stealthy, no one wants to always be on radar, thatd be -Yoink!- stupid. The only ways to stay off radar is standing still, and staying crouched. You are only on hit killed when you are melee’d in the back. Halo has always worked like that, you are gonna have to get used to it.

I think he means that you no longer need to crouch walk to stay off radar. Simply moving at 50% speed (if you use controller) by pushing the stick only a little bit you move slow enough to not trigger the radar.

Yes the radar in Infinite isn’t great but backsmacks are a classic mechanic to Halo, start doing them yourself and you’ll see their value.

Not gonna lie, I’m a Halo vet since CE and I watch my radar like a hawk. But in Infinite, enemy dots only appear on my radar when they’ve already got the drop on me in most cases and I never get the chance to react to it in time. It’s like the moment the dot appears, it’s already too late. I’ve been back smacked or they already engaged in the firefight first before I even had a clue. Most of these players are sprinting their -Yoink!- off, by the way. It’s not like they’re crouched and waiting for me.

It does get frustrating sometimes, it almost feels useless.

It’s always been like that. You’ve never NEEDED to crouch, only walk slowly.

Since you said this is your first Halo game, if I find you in game, I’ll try to remember to Ninja medal you personally, just to show you why even someone being in your face won’t stop a back smack. I can go full rounds getting mostly melee style medals. 20 years of Halo and it’s staying. Radar can be buffed and it won’t save you from people that want to back smack someone. I didn’t spend all that time earning Venator and Wetwork in H4 for nothing. People that go for assassinations and back smacks are dedicated to do it, no matter the radar. It’s not smart to scope in for long. This applies to most fps games.

You’ve only ever needed to slow down though. That’s always been the case.

Exactly. Whether it’s a range thing or a sensitivity thing, at present it’s the worst iteration to date.

The range of guns isn’t really a relevant issue to this point though, is it?
We aren’t talking about being shot from behind.
As for the range perhaps it isn’t 18m but its still fine.
I have been ninja’ed once and it was my fault.
Every other person who has tried has been met by me prepared and ready for them.
Pay more attention is all i can tell you.
Even if the sprint right at you you have time to deal with em.
Sounds more like you have poor reaction times tbh.
There nothing wrong with that either its just a reality of life for some.
The open sight lines and such are also off topic BTW.
The topic is OHK melee from behind…

18 meters is not wide enough for the base speed let alone sprinting. Plus, it doesn’t even pick up the enemy movement all the time like ITS SUPPOSED TO

It definitely is.

The inconsistent nature of the radar isn’t on topic.

The radar never always showed Spartans slow and crouch walking has always hidden you from radar.

18 metres is pretty much spot on for arena.
Like I’ve said I’ve had one person get the drop on me and it was my faulty for not paying attention.

Sounds like you guys are playing a pretty static style of play if this is such a big issue and aren’t keeping tabs on your lanes as much as ye should. I’m by no means a great player but the radar isn’t nearly as bad as some want to make it out to be.
