I like the new abilities... BUT (customs post)

I feel like we need to be able to disable them in customs.

I realized today while playing the beta that, while competitively, this is fun, but I’m not sure if these new abilities would work in every custom/casual scenario.

The beauty of customs in past Halos was being able to paint a vivid picture with a limited color palette. Classics like trash compactor, mansion, fat kid, etc. worked well partly because the limitations in movement we had, which allowed us to get more creative. Less was more.

Now obviously, I think each individual ability should have the option to be disabled. If 343 delivers the greatest custom and forge system seen in a Halo game where we can make firefight maps and spawn AI’s, I don’t want my friends to use ground pound and thrusters fighting waves and waves of flood in a horror themed environment. I should be able to close as many doors as I can open them, so to speak.

This will also allow players to take advantage of the new forge system and create their own classic style maps with corresponding game modes that compliment it well. While I do think the game SHOULD be built around the new abilities, customizing when and how we use them is crucial to developing a thriving creative circle within the Halo community and will help with the overall longevity of the game.

This will ALSO open the door for that classic playlist that people want. Granted, it would probably only be comprised of forge maps, but gameplay is still the most important factor. We’ve seen good community made maps rotated in matchmaking before, so this shouldn’t be a stretch. And the difference between a classic playlist in H5 and the MCC is the inclusion of new weapons and vehicles along with some other things we may not have seen in Halo or the beta so far. Regardless if people prefer the gameplay mechanics of the old games, everyone has a right to new content within their favorite series.

I truly believe that with the capabilities of the Xbox One, custom games will allow for all this and more. Considering how much more powerful forge was in just the MCC, it stands to reason that 343 is wanting to beef up the options for how we want to play.

i hope they do because the customization of armor and the idea of personal spartan identity is essentially gone, if there’s only one aspect of halo 5 that should thrive im happy to accept custom games and forge.

Speaking of, I really hope they bring back that concept of personal spartan identity. For some reason, Reach’s armor system was top notch, but Halo 4’s was underwhelming. Even if they do limit our armor choices in this game, letting us pick our voices and victory poses would be a pretty big deal.
