A I recently stumbled across a post on these forums somewhere that mentioned an article containing a tantalizing taste of warzone firefight. Eager for more details on this mode, I tracked what I believe to be the article in question. Rather than “details” I essentially just found an announcement and little else.
That’s hardly a surprise, and not why I’m upset. What upset me was what ELSE the article contained. Specifically a claim that over the course of these last few updates, 343 had added “12 new modes” to the game. 12.
I don’t hate 343. I don’t hate Halos 4 or 5. I think the MCC was a trainwreck of a launch, and I think Halo 5’s marketing was completely non representative of the final product. Nevertheless, I enjoy the hell out of the game, despite its shortcomings.
But that number made me call “bull cookies” (as my gym teacher was fond of saying), especially since up until today, I was under the impression that so far, Assualt, Fiesta, and Grifball were the only new modes we’d gotten.
Now, the article in question counts BTB and Forge as new game modes, but even so, that puts it at 5. From where in their anatomies did they pul 12?!

343 is actually counting stuff like Rocket Slayer and Snipers as new gamemodes… Look in the custom games menu. There is only 18 gametypes under 343 Industries. Like I’ve said before, 343 likes to blow smoke out their -Yoink-.
They announced Fiesta like it was some big addition… It is literally one option in the custom games menu that has been there since Halo 1. Setting Primary and Secondary weapons to random. It’s 343’s way of making it seem like they are adding more free content than they actually are. When in reality they are just adding all the stuff every other Halo game had at launch.
All brand new game modes!!! Yay, we could play them in other Halos, but in Halo 5 we have to wait many months before they’re added in to the game. It’s so clever! Hahaha

Quote of the day: “Bull Cookies” PhoenixAgent003’s Gym Teacher - 2016
Like the others said before me, there are the other custom game types, plus we still have 4 more free updates from 343 to come that are bound to include new game types, including firefight.
It’s just like their stint with the maps, saying there were 21 maps at launch (which pretty much includes every Forged Breakout map and both Orion and Pegasus seperately)
Their marketing is overselling these updates, which probably figures into why people are so disappointed (even if the updates do add good stuff)
They make an announcement about the future addition of a PvE game mode, something for which they had previously left only the merest shred of hope, something which is for some players like water in the desert, something which is for some players a game-defining feature… and you’re crunching the numbers on the the marketing spin?

This, I hate how they do that.
Last update they described as a “salvo of killer content”…please no 343…a remix and some silly skins is not “killer”. I do like that they are trying, but they need to stop with this.
hey it’s no different than when my 6 year old hands me 5 drawings of the same cat in different colors, well…maybe a bit, I didn’t pay for them, and she isn’t a professional, and she doesn’t ruin…ahem I meant run a multi million dollars company. But she try’s hard and that is awesome. So I guess 343’s map dev team tries hard “the forging community makes maps faster and better than we do” so hire them, or maybe get your bull cookies together and make some sub menus or a nifty scroll bar and add some more game types. AND definitely fire your marketing department because the cant tell the red cat or the blue cat from a dog. When a company uses the same marketing tactics as my 6 yo, they need to up their game. Sorry for my midnight rant.
“For those keeping track, that’s 11 new maps, 12 new modes (including Big Team Battle and Forge) and more than 180 new REQ items – all completely free.”
They are counting the Forge maps and of course the remixes.
They are counting unfinished content that I think most people considered paid for by the initial purchase of the game.
They are counting game variants.
So we’re at about 2 new maps, 3-4 remixes (Not even worth my time counting) 2 gamemodes, 1 fully new weapon and 180 REQ items, that as we know a fair few users on here actually paid real money for.
So much for the community yelling “forge maps don’t count towards the 15 new maps!!”

> It’s because 343 doesn’t know the difference between a gametype and a game variant.
This is exactly it. Fiesta isn’t a new Gametype; it’s Slayer.
Assault is actually a Gametype.
BTB? No, that’s just changing the player cap… sheesh.
Forge is not an addition, but original content that was delayed.
I tell you… 343 has to be the worst thing to enter the Halo universe since its inception. They embarrass the community with their bull cookies. They have no integrity and are ruining the franchise with their bad attitudes… and worst of all, their games suck big time.
All is forgiven as far as I’m concerned if they release proper Mark V for those who completed the campaign on Legendary or unlocked all achievements. I’m not too upset with them right now, though, as Grifball is perfect (well, aside from the cheating, which I have never experienced) and the game is overall fun.

Quoting this for truth. The content model idea isn’t bad, but what we’ve gotten so far for the killing that the req system has made seems like a giant slap to the face. It’s like how they justify all the remixed maps or maps heavily inspired by old maps. These maps aren’t new they’re the bare minimum above what you call recycled. Re-releasing classic versions of the same gun. This isn’t how the content should be done. Now they’re basically adding firefight back for the next update. Don’t get me wrong I like some throwbacks, but not only throwbacks or remixes that are easily debatable as content that should have been in this game from the start.
It completely lacks originality. On paper this was a good idea, but the execution of the free content has been mediocre at best.
