I would argue that the low population has a lot more to do wit the peer to peer system than the playlists/gametypes or any kind of CSR system.
You can have host one game and go 26 for 2 in a 4v4. Then the next game the host can be from anywhere in the world and you can struggle to compete.
New and old players alike can not adapt to this level of inconsistency!! Plain and simple!!
This also carries a run away effect, where by people get sick of the inconsistency and leave for something else. Then the system has less quality matches to choose from and so on and so forth until halo 4 is a barron wasteland.
I predict that after GearsJ comes out halo will be “dead” as people call it or close to it. I at least know for sure it will outside of the U.S.
Edit: I would like to point whoever is reading this to my second post in this thread. In it there is an experiment you can do to get an idea of the levels of inconsistency’s which are present.
Except that’s how every Halo game has been, and how nearly every game on the market is. And H4 is nowhere near the levels of host-centric problems that H2 had.
And I giggled at the latest “Halo 4 will be dead at ____” theory.
Also, i would like people to understand the level of inconsistency so here is a little experiment:
The delay off host varies with distance. It doesnt matter what speed your connection is because that is relative to the closest server to you.
Go to speedtest.net, do a speed test, then do another one but choose a server america side, or you americans can choose one euro side. Compare the difference. you will notice your ping has doubled or even tripled and also that your upload has dropped significantly.
These results are optimal, they don’t even take into account the delay’s from the server to the host and back, before finally returning to you.

Incorrect, halo 3 and reach had options to filter out poor connections. Along with “every game on the market”.
Mostly because the Golden Triangle of Halo (Weapons, Grenades, Melee) has now become the Golden “Square” of Halo (Weapons, Grenades, Melee, Personal Ordinance) and that’s what makes it different from the other Halos.
I recently got Black Ops and feared it would be like all the other CODs. The mechanics that make Call of Duty, Call of Duty are still there, but it just feels more…balanced. Still not as good as COD4 however. Nothing tops that.
The same can be said for Halo 4. It just feels like I’m playing a mindless shooter, which is the last thing I EVER expected from Halo. There’s no skill anymore it’s just get “x” amount of kills and you get a game-changing weapon from the infinity gods.
Seriously, I’ve seen a team come back from a loss because they got an incineration cannon and two binary rifles out of ordinance.
Fortunately, the competitive playlist might be the thing that will make Halo feel like Halo again.
Hmm, this is just going to be a guess, but I am thinking Gears J is going to end up almost or like Halo 4, They are adding a Dominion mode, more powerful weapons, looks like from videos everyones fav DB shotgun is still in game, Horde is being changed or adding another version of it… not sure of yet. So yeah, I wouldn’t be to hopeful on that, the only difference is Epic will change things alot faster then 343I if it is a reasonable problem.

Halo 3 had the option to filter out poor connections, and Halo: Reach had regional search preferences. The folks at 343 opted to not include those options in favor of making those standard (basically, your preferences are set to “good connection” permanently). Now, you can say, “But in my experience it looks laggiester than evar!” But really, your perceptions are no more than that.

Those filter options were a joke lmao. Every person with a ‘bad connection’ choice the filter to find them ‘good connections only’ Still making games un-playable at times. I rarely run into laggy games. If I do it’s because I’m matched against Mexican’s or Euro’s. Sometimes even Canadians have bad host. I will admit I have a crap internet of 6down and 1up. I always pull host in custom games against friends. And they have better connections than I. Yet I’ve never heard them complain about the connection or ‘Delay’ in shots they all enjoy it. Until my connection gets hit with a bad lag spike lmao. Even when I pull host in MM It’s all green bars all day unless they live outside the US. Even then it’s not that bad for them. Or until my connection has a lag spike that lasts for like 5 seconds sometimes longer.
> JiP system is what kills this game for me. I wonder if it has a significant effect on the population too?
JIP is garbage. 4vs4 and when finish the game you see 17 players on resume stats, its a dance of connections… fine, lag, unplayabe, black screen, lag , fine, unplayable, laggy… It isnt a good thing.

They way i see the gameplay changes is that it has largely become about niche’s. I’ll explain, people have started fitting into little rolls. The most annoying and biggest roll/niche is the active camo. People will remain crouched and off radar until someone approaches. Then they will camo up and by the time the person has got eyes on him the camo guy has already got two shots in the poor shmuck and should easily win that duel.

That wasn’t an option that matched you with people who selected similar options. It just made the search terms stricter and prioritized connection quality.

Very mature.
Anyway, inside the U.S you might have to ping through one server during your match. But outside there could be 2 or even 3. This creates very noticable delay’s. It’s gotten to the point where i can always tell if the host is from accross the pond when i’m playing. If this is the standard, the standard is very low because i quite often am put into games with host’s outside of europe. Even australians get hosts in America. It’s just not good enough.
Look, the proof is there and you can even measure the inconsistency’s based on region and where the host is. For anybody that wants to know just do the little experiment i posted in my second comment on this thread.

Yeah because those worked sooooo well. I found that in Halo: Reach if I filtered for good connection, my games usually were laggy and horrible.
IT can be saved and made more skill worthy with a few changes and some reengineering of the ordinance system. takeing out the loadouts is a must AA’s cna just be put into ordinance drops in place of power weapons and stuff. Obtaining Ordinance has to be the most non skillful thing in this game besides camo campers. If you die it dosent reset , you can be the crappyes player on the team and still get it. It needs to be made into a reward for doing excellent and not just some OP despencer for being slightly helpful towards your team.

Take into account that the population for this installment is already lower for this stage in the life cycle and you should be able to fathom as to why games are more inconsistent than they ever were at this stage before. You know less people, less chance of Quality matchmaking.
> The game isnt struggling whatsoever. Get off your invisible throne and stop spreading your opinion around like its a fact.
Look, i hate to have to say this but. This isn’t opinion!!. This is fact!! If you can at least try to understand how the internet and ping works, you will see that inconsistency’s ARE important. I will have to point you too my second post in this thread so that you can understand what i mean.
And the population numbers on halo 4 should be enough to convince anyone that relative to the other halo’s and all the other triple a titles on xbox that it is in “fact” struggling.
> The game isnt struggling whatsoever. Get off your invisible throne and stop spreading your opinion around like its a fact.
Its struggleing and at the same time its not 343 has improved were getting the playlists we want. But reallyits struggleing badly, and the Biggest contributor to it has to be the part of the community spreading that Halo is dead -Yoink- and the people who are too high and mighty to enter the new section and actully read it and the people that belive that their group is better because X,Y,Z. We are a community for a reason. These days the community is like a Hyena trying to escape from a trap by biting its own leg off. The hyena will die if it escapes without its leg.
