Humanity is a poor choice for Being responsible for guarding all life in the galaxy.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I think the Didact took things a bit too far by trying to convert all humans on earth into digital dust (fair enough, he’d been asleep for thousands of years and his head probably wasn’t in the right place. As a general rule I don’t think anyone should operate mass scale genocidal weapons without at least a cup of coffee and a jog) but I have to say that I I was choosing a species to be the guardian of all life in existence, I probably wouldn’t choose us either.
Maybe he should have tried being a part of the solution. Maybe he shoulda tried teaching us or giving us some constructive criticism. I mean, he’s the last forerunner left and surely he doesn’t wanna singlehandedly wear the responsibility of the entire mantle. It makes sense to go for a joint operation.
Ah well.

Why does humanity have to inherit the Mantle? It is not a real thing, merely an idea created by an adavnced race and stolen by one of their creations.
Humanity does not have to be responsible for all life in the galaxy. Life can be responsible for itself. The Elites will be responsible for the Elites and humans for humans.
Actually, the Didact’s crazy, I wouldn’t trust his judgement at all.
I can see the hate for Humanity the Didact and even Sanghelli feels. Just look at how they handled the Flood, even though Humanity was breifly successful they acted to rashly and wounded up fighting against the Forerunners. They lost and got devolved to a primitive state.
Fast Forward to the Halo Trilogy and then Halo 4, humanity (ONI) is advancing in technology thanks to the Forerunners, dealing with the Insurrectionist, starting a civil war with the Sanghelli to keep them occupied and plotting to exterminate them all with Biological weapons.
Humanity has the compacity for good, but have the compacity for evil as well. Jul and Didact see the threat more then anyone else has.
What really intresteded me since H1 who the Forunner did?! Have you seen the Movie Prometheus"It was in the Cinema". It tells the how Scientist will find the Answer of Life and who created us. I dont think this will happen any Time but it would be nice …
The Didact seemed for me like a Crazy Psychopath, which just want to Control the World how he wants. Flood is the only Way to stop his Plans. But the Humanity is just a little Piece of an Intergalactic Combat …

When you put it that way it makes a lot of sense
The Mantle orientates from a race of extragalactic ancient beings who routinely genocided entire races for not passing some vague test to claim the Mantle. The Mantle is a farce and if the Didact is willing to be a psychopath over it, he is nothing but a danger to the rest of the galaxy.
It’s the Precursors that are insane. The Didact’s just paranoid.
What kind of creator enforces a test like the Flood?
Now I know gods like to mess with their creations but when they try to take total control of them, that’s when they’ve gone bad! Hell the loss of personality from the Composer was merely an unwanted side effect compared to the Flood.
This is only a test for Chief. The real fight begins with the Precursors.
Seems to me that the Didact is the person in the wrong. Genocides the entire human race so the Forerunners could get all the glory.
