Im confused on something which might be for gameplay purposes only, but Jun says “I kill the enemy, but do not hate them.” yet when you unlock his voice for firefight he is often taunting and cruel to his enemies… surely he should be respectful to those he kills like Tai Kaliso from Gears of War. Some of the things he says that I think go against his character is “Not dead yet? You WILL be” Moaning in pleasure then saying that’s nice when getting a headshot or yelling HAHA! when killing someone and there is more that I can’t recall. Its just so out of place in my opinion… so is he lying when he says he doesn’t hate the enemy, get carried away during combat or is this purely the developers way of making his voice more interesting and worth 10,000 credits instead of him saying respectful things to the enemy he is killing.
It may be related to how firefight in Reach has a completely different mood to firefight in ODST. ODST firefight still remains fairly serious and arguably a lot more dangerous compared to the arcade-like experience you’d get in Reach. Everyone voiced in Reach becomes an instant psychopath, it doesnt just appear to be Jun.

Ahh okay I didn’t know that as I only have Jun and GYSGT Stacker unlocked
Unlock Sgt Johnson, he says some funny stuff too.
I would assume that the firefight voices aren’t canon, so they are there just for entertainment
I would say he enjoys killing overall. Just because he doesn’t hate the enemy doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy getting a nice headshot on an enemy or whatever.
Some of my favorite voices to use are Buck, Srgt. Johnson, and Master Chief.
I love this, and interesting you bring this up… I love the line Emile says: “Trust me, payback’s a b***h.”

Ive still to unlock Jorge of all people, ive had two accounts because I forgot my password to my main one and never really got all the firefight voices back when I got my account back, I still play quite a bit of firefight and now that I have bought all the armor upgrades I want I am free to try out the rest of the firefight voices
The person using the voice is not Jun, so the personality of the user not matching up isn’t unusual.
Besides, you don’t need to hate someone to be a -Yoink- to them.

It may go against his opinion in being serious, of course, it does apply to his quote still. He says “I kill the enemy, but do not hate them”, however, that does not apply to his happiness of killing. They’re not his enemies, but he enjoys killing them. He’s done it so much it’s robotic for him.
It doesn’t make sense but it’s a literary interest, why does he kill happily if he respects his enemies?
You can even analyze what “I kill the enemy, but do not hate them” means! So he kills his enemies, but doesn’t hate them. Does that mean they are even enemies? He doesn’t hate them, the UNSC hates them. Just because the UNSC has that mindset, doesn’t mean HE has that mindset, but he still kills them.
Maybe it’s in any spartan’s character that ‘it’s just your job, you don’t have to like it’… or hate it.
This is akin to the quarrel that the famous Achilles had in Homer’s “The Illiad”.
Achilles kills the Trojans of Troy because he’s told to, he doesn’t have any quarrel with the Trojans, he just does his job. That’s why, when his general pushes him around as if he’s nothing, he doesn’t care for the war and vows to leave, stripping the Greek forces of their greatest force, which was Achilles.
You could say in the same way that Jun doesn’t leave the spartan program (Maybe cause he’s not allowed to), but also because maybe he enjoys it.
There is often a difference between the one who wages the war, and the one who is drafted to play in it. Some will be patriotic and enjoy killing the enemies for external reasons, some will also be patriotic and hate killing the enemies for external reasons,
and some just like killing.
