It has been 6 years since Halo 5 came out. And 6 years since I’ve truly enjoyed playing a competitive PvP shooter without hesitation or qualification.
It isn’t not that good shooters haven’t since in between now and then - Siege, MW2019, Gears 5, SQUAD for example. But they’ve all had big issues, or been absolutely miserable to play SoloQ in, or teammates influence matches too much (or FFA is completely lacking) or I’ve just been absolutely terrible at them.
But Infinite has come out for the first time maybe since even Reach or Halo 3 I want to come home play a PvP shooter for both fun and competition and know that I won’t suffer because I play SoloQ or because teammates interfere with my fun (too much) and that I can actually enjoy the game without having to make a bunch of concessions or exceptions.
Yes, the game does have issues. But in an era when even Battlefield is letting me (and everyone else) down it is great to have the good, warm Halo feeling back.

I mean the sheer amount of cheaters/hackers hurts the game competitively, but aside from that its good for competitive play.

I’ve played a lot and have not seen anything fishy going on
I’m sure it exists
Its difficult to notice, best method is to rewatch theater clips. There are some warning signs, like if somebody has a new account, if someone gets absurd medals/stats (7 perfects with the Commando? please) or if they somehow know where you are at at all times and prefire behind walls. I’ve seen only a handful that were obvious, there endgame stats may not reflect that because they intentionally shoot at walls or whatever but its a serious issue.
I saw one not too long ago in a Quickplay match
Edit: There are lots of videos on Reddit, Twitter, and Youtube ‘exposing’ these hackers. Most hilarious was in a match against a pro (Lucid) dude calls him out, then you can see in the hackers stream the health bars and so on.
I’ve seen one on YouTube, but not in any of my games.
I wonder how 343 can crack down on this
I guess they’ll catch on to the red flags
