Hey guys,
I just got “voice banned” for a week. I have absolutely no idea I could get banned for this, nor do I even know what I said (especially considering I don’t trash talk much by voice). Any idea’s on how this happened, or what this does? I was still talking with my teammates last night after the ban got issued. And anyway to get rid of it before the one week period?
Also, in order to avoid voice bans in the future, do not play so well against your opponents, but play well enough not to piss your own top players off.
Wouldn’t want to get a well deserved voice ban for beating someone in a game now would we?
To clarify, Naqser is implying (correctly, in my opinion) that some players may mute you as “punishment” for beating them too soundly, or just for -Yoink!- them off at all.
With the flawed mute ban system looming over your shoulder, and the near-total absence of anyone with a mic in Game Chat anyway, it’s probably best to just stay in Party Chat. :\
I do wish there was a limit on how many mutes you can apply to keep players from using it incorrectly.
Reasons that I think are fair:
If you put on music to the point I can’t hear the actual game.
Technical problems like clicks/pops/hums/lip smacks. I will try and let you know if I can. If you are using a Kinect (shudder) don’t put it in front of the TV speakers, or it will often echo a lot.
I get tired of language if it is constant. Are people going to get excited/frustated? Yes, but there are limits. Once some friends and I had a party of six, and a guy and his girlfriend joined us in BTB. Before anyone else could say anything he started: “What up {racial slur}? Let’s {sexual act} these {religious slur + homophobic slur}.” 8 seconds into the game, and he had 6 mutes. His girlfriend was wondering why the rest of the game we would respond to her, but not him - and from her statements, it sounded like he didn’t understand why…
Constant chatter, particularly if it is distracting and/or unrelated to the game. Will I laugh my behind off if someone mid-game has an argument with his girlfriend - you betcha! Do I want to hear a 12-minute diatribe over who’s gonna take care of the baby? No. If you ever find yourself in this situation, mute YOURSELF (There should be a little button, or you can do this on the menu).
This one is probably not fair, but I speak English. If you and you team are speaking a different language … and NEVER stop … I may pull the trigger then.
Smack talk? meh - If I deserve it, then whatever. If I didn’t deserve it, I’m gonna laugh. I’m gonna say “Good Game” and move on.
