I JUST GIVE UP (343i must read, seriously)

I actually already gave up once, but i was lvl 30 and i came back thinking that the game deserved more than just that…now im close to lvl 90 and i can say:
HALO 4 MULTIPLAYER IS WRONG DESIGNED AND/OR ISNT FOR ME…
So here comes my wall of text, feel free to read only one part if thats what you want

THE TEARS MADE THIS HARD TO WRITE
You have no idea of how sad that makes me (there’s literally tears in my eyes, and no, im not overally depressed for real life stuff, like i’m most of the time).
I seriously can’t remember the last time that i didnt liked the multiplayer layer of a game that wasn’t COD…seriously, there was always something redeeming in the playability of all the 360 and Ps3 games i’ve come across (PC is a different story). You know i loved the MP of games that nobody played, like MOH: Aiborne or Farcry 2, and also the MP of games that were never popular tough they were masterpieces, like Max Payne 3 or Bioshock 2.
And from all the console games i’ve ever played i only HATED 1 (now 2):
CALL OF DUTY…
And it feels like crap because now i have to add to that list the last iteration of one of my most beloved franchises ever (I love Rayman more, they didn’t failed me)…
Now this isnt like i suck in this game and thats why i hate it…no, im good in this game, but it just doesnt feel good, in fact im VERY good at COD but still i dont like its MP. And im the kind of old veteran gamer that never stays in just one game, i master games really fast, just to name examples: Halo Reach, Halo 2, FarCry 2, MOH: Airborne, Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Bioshock 2, Max Payne 3,etc…And let me tell you something, i get fun even in MPs in wich im not good, before i became a good Halo player i really REALLY sucked at Halo 3, i used to end my games with a negative K/D ratio all the time and still i had fun with it. Now in Halo 4 i can win game after game and dont feel any happy about it.
And dont misunderstand me, im just talking about MP, the Halo 4 campaign was just beautiful, the final was epic and sad, and the Broadsword lvl in Legendary made my heart beat as fast as it did with the double Scarab fight back in Halo 3. The Spartan Ops are better than Firefight (although i still miss the Skirmishers), theyre a perfect secondary campaign, theyre semanal, theyre free…I dont regret to had buyed the Limited Edition, even tough its biggest addition was maps for MP.
343i you did a beautiful job with Halo non MP part, and i really appreciate that,and while i think that what you did to Cortana was a mistake, im sure you can fix it in the next game (so i have faith on you about that).

LETS EXPLAIN WHY
Im not the kind of person (or at least my friend Ylla isnt) who just believes a game sucks and abandones it…
So here it comes:
Halo 4 multiplayer is a mistake for 2 big things:
1.- It is TOO n00b friendly, there is a limit between make a game newb friendly and reduce the frontier between bad and good gamers. And you failed to realize that.(even IW or Treyarch didnt)
-killing with a gun is so freakin easy that most fights are solved by who shots first, furthermore most fights debilitate the player in a way he cant just stand another fight. As a response to that this game is full of people fleeing from combat and givin the kill to a person who just pass trough and not the guy who initiated the fight.
-This effectively makes most of the kills be done by griefers, campers and people who just gets in the battle, instead of the people WHO ACTUALLY FREAKIN FIGHTS!!
-Thats why all my kills feel void, because i only win a game by stealing kills.
-By killing the frontier between good and bad players most of the games are won by little difference, or by team power (2 bad dudes rushing are better than a good one)
-Aiming help MUST GO!! Watch how the Hardcore mode of Rockstar games completely scraps it.

2.- Unforgivable mistakes: it may be your first game, but you did a lot of really bad mistakes with the MP part of this game, that nobody ever commited, it feels like you didnt put love or effort on it, or at least did a vision document of how it needed to be. Im sure there was no MP design leader that guided everyone, and you were just throwing stuff in blindly:

  • Boltshot is game breaker, freakin obvious, and should have been solved with day one patch, it renders all automatic guns and melee useless, and its clearly the best secondary gun.
  • Flinch isnt counterable, in all the games i’ve ever played you can counter vertical recoil by pulling your analog in the contrary direction, in some games like BF3 you can even counter recoil per bullet (sounds impossible, but thats my secret for my awesomness with the Pecheneg, i even did a 26 kill streak once, and i was run gunning)
  • DMR is broken by design, it has more distance with aiming help, and its recoiless, and its bloom is almost despictable, The only way you can balance a high damage gun in a game is by making each shoot be HARD TO ACHIEVE, not the easiest of all guns. Look at the BF3 PKP or the pig, or the BC2 G3, the Bioshock Elephant Gun, etc.
  • CC is also broken by design, you had the most fast shooting headshot rifle in the game, and that is also the one that needs more pulls of the trigger to kill…And yet you give it the slowest reload time (and give the DMR the fastest), and the lowest kill/mag ratio??? Besides it seems like you didnt unsdesrstand that keeping a gun aimed all the time at an enemy head while pushing the trigger as fast as possible was obviously harder than aim bullet per bullet of the DMR…and you even give it a hidden bloom that makes shots fail almost randomly…
  • You didnt tought the consequenses of having plasma pistols and grenades as standard loadouts for vehicle maps…
  • I cant point how -Yoinked!- up Regicide is…It represents the epitome of everything you did wrong with the game: it punishes the best players while rewards suicide killing bad players, everytime i play it (more on why i stick to it is explained in the next point) a bad player, most of the time with negative K/D and less kills (sometimes even half than me) WINS…HOW IS THAT??? Just because i didnt suicide myself like a stupid just to get a regicide, i LOSS??? even if i had a 2.0 K/D ratio and almost doubled the kills of the winner??? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU??? WHY DO YOU MAKE THE BEST PLAYER A LIVING BLANK??? WHY DO YOU ENFORCE KINGS TO CAMP???

  • As i already explained the fact that you killed the difference between good and bad players made team based games be won by just who has more players in the frontline…As a result to this Team based games are just 2 or more players killing lone guys and lone guys running…IT is heartbreaking to see another player flee from a decent 1vs1 fight, you effectively made Halo players become pussyes just for the sake of win…
  • The RADAR IS WRONG, you made everyone know everything in a circle of 40 YOINKING METERS!! what were you thinking??? you killed 1 man army rushing almost completely, you are widely promoting camping!!
  • You gave Active Cammo the ability to counter aiming help…BY STANDING STILL!!!
  • You killed map flow by adding Ordinance Drops, now all campers can get their Power Weapons in their freaking HOLES!!
  • You killed strafing, especially with the DMR, if i blow shields by shooting the body i can get 6SK!!!
    -And then you added stopping power as a ridiculous way to stop people from fleeing, while it also kills counter attacking, wich then enforces people to flee…
    -You completely ruined the oportunity to make a class based Halo (something i always whished), many games (Bioshock 2, Max Payne 3)before of you have been able to design far more complex and more balanced class based systems, with less money, and you even had a testing lab…

And this is because you didn’t had someone to guide the design, as I said, you were just throwing stuff blindly, you weren’t following rules, or at least notions of how it needs to be done…
-You didn’t know what to keep and what to change; as example the grenade/gun dichotomy is equal to the plasmid/gun dichotomy of Bioshock 2. But in Halo 4 Grenade perks are way too powerful, and grenades without them are next to useless, a Halo player with zero perks should be capable to use both grenades and guns with the same effectiveness than in past Halo iterations, and perks should adapt to ways of play (whether i throw the grenades to my enemies feet, or if I made them bounce, or if I throw them to where my enemy will go) instead of just give them raw power.
-You didn’t know about perk synergy, you throw in perk abilities without think “this would be better with this, or that”. Some perks are OP with certain guns (Weapon Stability plus DMR) while at the same time are must haves for other guns (Weapon Stability plus LightRifle), the CC needs Dexterity to work, Gunner is next to useless, Sooner Ordinances is OP, Grenade Gathering (lol) is a effing joke…
-Controller schematics are wrong, an average player must be capable to throw grenades, jump, crawl, use ability, and shoot without pull off the thumbs off the triggers (Twisted Metal style!!), and this is impossible with any control scheme…

And the list could go on and on, I didn’t mention your problems with Custom Games, automatic gathering of Oddbals, Bombs and Flags, how wrong aiming help is at this point (controllers can be used as mouses, play any Rockstar game in hardcore, to clean your eyes) but im sad, tired and angry, and im done with this, ill look forward for Bungie’s Infinity, and ill rent Halo 5 just for the history, I don’t have faith in you 343i (please, prove im wrong) you did so many things wrong for a MP first release that you need to scrap the system completely, and Mocosoft (moco=mucus) wont let you do that…
I realize many people at the community doesn’t understand this, but most of them feel that something is wrong and I believe that the work of you as devs is not to give the clients (be it fans or newcomers) what they ask for, you job is about giving them what they really need, even if they don’t know what it is.
So ill go back to Max Payne 3, ill buy the Season Pass and ill feel like crap because it’s a yoinking masterpiece and yet it only have a few hundreds (sometimes just dozens) of players connected…Its unfair…life is unfair, but videogames were something different, when did this happened to us? 

Too long did not read. But if it has anything to do with being tired of playing h4 then I’m stuck in the same boat. I went back to H3, Reach, CE on PC and playing metal gear…

I don’t think I disagree with anything the OP said, there were a few references to games I’m unfamiliar with but all in all he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Sadly, despite the length of the post(s) he hardly scratched the surface.
