… and imagine my pleasant surprise when I discovered I could dual wield weapons akimbo-style (i.e. use 2 weapons in each hand simultaneously).
That was so much fun!
Why wasn’t dual-wielding weapons akimbo-style included in HALO 5?
BIG MISTAKE IMO…

Three Words.
Dual-Wielded Needlers
Because dual-wielded weapons have to be weaker so that they aren’t over powered. That leads to those weapons being non-viable on their own. Dual-wielding is bad for the sandbox as a whole.

Which caused the Start of BR starts for the BR was the only viable starting weapon.
In Halo 2 and 3, if you did SMG/AR starts, the ones who captured the BRs 1st won. 10 out of 10 times. Nothing could stand against the BR.
Yes duel wielding was cool. But balance wise. It was the Worst decision Bungie ever made. Why bungie went back and got rid of it in Halo: Reach and 343I followed suit.
And now Halo 5 has some of the best weapon Balance I have ever seen in a shooter.

That’s the point. It shows that a Power weapon of Halo:CE turned into the Worst weapon of all time because of duel wielding

Slightly wrong. The way it worked was that a weapon which could be dual weirded did it’s normal 100% damage, however; once you picked up another weapon in your other hand; both weapons damage was decreased to 60% of their total damage.
So effectively, holding 2 SMGs, you could do 120% damage of a single SMG, but you had increased recoil.
There are several ways you can mitigate the effect of dual wielding a weapon so that it isn’t overpowered in multiplayer:
There are SO many ways to balance dual-wielded weapons.
Maybe I should get a job in the Gaming industry after I retire from my career.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to know you’re not a game developer.
Duel wielding hurt the overall chess-warfare akin to halo. No nades, no beatdowns, just boring duel wielding.

Lmao
Not only does duel wielding make balancing those weapons near impossible as they’re either rubbish or op, it also prevents use of grenades, melee and scoping which goes against core principles of halo.

Well, on it’s own, the gun would suck.
I hope it never comes back tbh

100% agreed!
It was garbage.
OP, move onto Halo 3. That’s got dual wielding, too.
There you go, an entire other Halo game for you to play and dual weapons to your heart’s content.

Well, what if he wants a new Halo game made in the style of Halo 2/3? Halo 3 isn’t really supported by Bungie or 343i so… we classic players want a new game made in the style of the old games.

Then…he’s going to be very disappointed?

As so many people pointed out before, some of these are what Halo did with duel wielding, and it just doesn’t work. To be competitive, while balanced, with the duel wieldable guns, you have to have both, because the guns are awful on their own. Look at the difference between the Halo: CE and Halo 4 pistol, when compared to the pistols in H2 and H3. One of those groups has the pistol as a useful weapon, while the other pair range from poor to useless. Duel wielding was cool, but it just isn’t practical to implement. Honestly ask yourself how much you used the Halo 3 pistol.

I never actually thought about it, but Halo 5 does actually have really good weapon balance. I feel like the shotgun has a little too much range, but out of all the halo games, it has good weapon balance.
Dual wielding guns was really fun for the Rambo feel and all, but whenever I used it I got demolished immediately.
