What dictates a power weapon? OHK multiple targets? This is why I wish the whole power weapon announcing thing would just go away. I wish they would just spawn on the map without any higher degree to the other weapons except a longer spawn time, like all the previous halos. I still consider the energy sword a power weapon. Same with the shotgun. The announcing thing just keeps your team distracted for one weapon instead of going for PROPER weapon/map dominance by rotating the entire map controlling the BR and shotgun and energy sword and all the other versatile weapons that spawn standardly. I know I’m late to the party with this and it may seem like an old halo vet nagging about the new age, (yes I’m a halo vet. Been playing since 'Nam), but I feel like the power weapons have been over emphasized and instead of map control, it’s turned into camp at the orange thing to hoard the power weapon. The BR is good enough! Stop rushing into the middle and killing yourself so you can get a plasma caster! Go for the right weapons and control the map!
As an old Halo vet you should know better than anyone that people camp power weapon spawns. I don’t usually notice people doing it for the “lower” power weapons like the railgun or plasma caster, but I notice it for almost every sniper or rocket launcher spawn and I’m almost certain it would happen regardless of the countdown timers (as it did in the other games)
I kind of agree, I remember they did something similar in Reach. I think they cycled through different spawn points but they would let you know when power weapons are spawning.
On to Halo 5:
Weapon Pads are mostly annoying, imo. They do break up map control slightly, for instance if the other team has good map control but is unavailable to reach the power weapon in time, which spawns in the same location every time, the table may turn in the right hands. Now that is all very situational, but it could still happen. It also keeps people from camping (which I think was the point) since the Weapon Pads seem to be in pretty open spaces where the player is pretty vulnerable, minus maybe the sniper pad on Plaza.
All in all, I would like for 343 to have multiple Weapon Pads per map so it could mix up the players like it did in Reach with distracting them too much, like OP said.
I don’t think it makes much of a difference if they announce or not, because map control definitely still exists. If someone is dumb enough to sit on a weapon pad and eat grenades while a timer ticks off, they deserve it. In previous Halo’s people started hanging around power weapon spawns after so much time also, we just don’t have to watch the clock as closely now. Sure BR, Shotguns and Swords are excellent weapons, but a rocket launcher or a skilled sniper can turn a match around in seconds. Camping the weapon pad never works out well for me though. Everyone knows it’s coming. You want to be the last one to the objective to have the most time with it… like king of the hill.
I always check the game timer when I pick up the overshield on Regret and other maps and make sure I’m there again 2 minutes later
These are weapons that 343 thinks are great for the map. They go in certain spots for a fight to have happen at those spots. Usually they tend to have a normal amount of ammo while the other weapons tend to have less.
The shot gun usually only has 6 shots in it and the hydra has 6 spare shots. however, the plasma caster tends to have 2 extra clips when you get it from a weapon pad.
All of it is used to make games go more smoothly and to make sure people that are fresh to the game have a some what fair playing felid vs. People that have played a while
A power weapon is defined as being able to kill an enemy in one shot or a vastly accelerated kill time. Sometimes things like bars and carbines are technically called power weapons, but that’s just because you pick them up. They aren’t actual power weps.

what youve never fought for a needler or a plasma pistol? do you even play halo? LOL …they should count down grenades, plasma pistols, and smgs too
My solution would to have a “ramdom” weapon spawn there rather than just a power weapon, maybe from a short list but include a Magnum and a AR.
Instead of it say “10 second to” what ever power weapon is come just say “10 seconds to weapon drop”
The campers and those who drop everything to get this new weapon could end up with a basic weapon and so have wasted their time and maybe their life if the enemy are also heading for it !?

I personally prefer the way they are handling it right now. It makes the weapon spawn not so up in the air so there is natural dynamic map controlling. I can’t tell you how many times I played on reach for me to be killed by a power weapon that I never knew spawned in.

Maybe it would be more effective if you explained your strategy to your teammates instead of complaining on the board that a feature should be removed?
If you’re letting them camp the power weapons, do you really have map control?
Also, having a timer helps prevent camping because everyone now knows when it’ll respawn. There’s no guess work and waiting around before hand is unnecessary.
A “power weapon” is a weapon that is powerful. I hope that helps clarify things lol

This would make games a lot more unpredictable in a very good way.

Soooooo you only want one weapon to be used, why chastise players for wanting the weapon for an edge. Halo players have always camped power weapon spawns, and announcing it adds or takes away very little to the game. Are you just made your not getting them cause suck it up butter cup, out shoot the other and get it your self.

343 didn’t start power weapons…lol.

If I remember correctly Doom has had them forever. Since the 90s.
I think the emphasis they put on power weapons is just because they’re not sure what makes Halo “Halo”, so they were just excited to show off the concept as if to reaffirm that they know what they’re doing.
Like, “see guys, it’s power weapons, just like Halo should have!” And we’re sitting back like, “Ok… that’s normal. You’re the ones that removed them in the first place.”

But how will <1 kd noobs like me get more than 2-3 kills.

You’re not late to the party at all. I’m still working on my review video actually because I’m actually putting thought into my comments for H5. Sure it’s too late to make a huge change on the game, but not to late to give feedback and let 343 know your thoughts before they start another update or begin their preparations on H6.
I’ve said since Halo 4 that I don’t understand the callouts. The conclusion I’ve came to is a larger scope of the fact that this game is catering to a new audience and those who aren’t as familiar to Halo. So they have dumbed a lot of features down so that anyone can understand it upon their first game. “These are the true power weapons. Here’s where this weapon is on the map. This is when it will spawn. I’ll let you know when and who grabs it. You don’t have to do any work. Just sit back and kick your feet up and you will be successful.”
Not just the weapon callouts, but the screen clutter of pointing them out and the audio clutter of the announcer calling them out as well as your teammates. I counted it once it was like 50 references a game. Can you turn some of it off? Yes. Is it still fair? Yes. But the problem I have with it, like you touched on, is it breaks up the flow of the game. Halo has always been about remembering to get the important items (like you still have to remember to get powerups) and when your ears and eyes are being bombarded by this information it changes your thought process. Even if you do NOTHING about it or stick to your own plan, you are now more aware of something that could have been used as strategy previously. And with that little bit of information, even if you don’t go for them, you might change your entire gameplan. Now you’ve decided not to storm the base because now you know they have rockets so they can’t surprise you. Or now that reminds you to go get over shield or something else because it will be up too.
Little things that don’t seem like much, but completely change the pace of the game, not to mention how often they spawn. It’s just another piece of skill and strategy being taken off this game one flake at a time in order to make room for people who don’t understand what made this game successful in the first place and just want some casual, immediate fun.
