I Just Can't Play Reach Anymore

After having an exam today i thought i ent been on halo in a while i’ll hop on see whats happening, after 4 games lacking any kind of enjoyment i have come to the conclusion that the multiplayer is the worst i have ever played on a game and the campaign is the worst of any halo game (read the halo reach book, way better story).

All of the big features that affect the gameplay to the small features like beatdown knockback with sudden sluggishness with the in-ability to turn faster than 0.1 senstivity are why i think this.

Another thing that annoys me is the opinion of all the halo haters but reach fan boys (yes i dnt class reach as halo as it feels literally nothing like halo) are affecting what 343 put in halo 4, i just saw a guy on a forum say he prefered reach because if u wernt in shotgun range he felt the br was to in-accurate when 4-5 shots were do-able at pretty much anything that isnt sniping across sandtrap range. The point hasnt been made yet though, the point is the guy said he thought the reach ranking was bad but couldnt comment on halo 3s ranking system as he didnt know much about it clearly showing he BEARLY played the game. It just seems like literally everyone who liked reach hated halo 3/2 and its the opinions of these people as they seem to be the majority at the moment that are going to make halo 4 a terrible game.

Every halo 4 update other then bloomless BR has been bad news so far. I mean lets be serious what will MLG (if halo is still part of MLG at this point as if many of you didnt kno halo is no longer played via lan and is now played over live (got taken over by league of legends)) use for their main weapon, a blooming dmr or a BR, only thing that will make me play the game is if i can choose BR and own the unlucky spraying or even timing DRM users without armor abilities.

Wont ever be putting my reach disk in my halo 3 xbox again, hopefully the population on halo 3 is enough to last until halo 4.

On the brightside of things the single player seems promising.

Reach is even worse now. The last few weeks connections dive-bombed. I can’t play it anymore. Any other multiplayer game is fine (CoD, Gotham City), and other coop games work fine as well. Reach just sucks lately- too much lag

Ah yes, the classic Halo burnout. Play a different game! When you come back, you usually enjoy it again!

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with Reach. There are periods where Reach is my favorite game, and then there are periods where I can’t even look at my Reach disc without wanting to break it.

> Ah yes, the classic Halo burnout. Play a different game! When you come back, you usually enjoy it again!

I tried this… problem is… connections are still garbage. No other prominent game is as terrible as reach is (connection-wise). The awful Reach gameplay is compounded by -Yoink- internet coding. Driving me nuts. I would be more hopeful about 343’s ability to remedy this, except Halo Anniversary campaign is not playable coop either. Eff halo in 2012.

I think i know what u mean, in one of the games in the middle of a gun fight i had yesterday (wasnt sure whether this was to do with lag or the game struggling to run correctly) we were shooting each other then suddenly my game so it appeared, started to run at like 1-5 fps (frames per second) hopefully you know what they are, a term usually associated with pc games, but basically games become annoying to play at like 24 fps and below and anything below like 20 is unplayable but yeah, im getting fps lag hard as if instead of being a smooth running game like im watching a mooth clip on screen in the middle of the gun fight it was as if i was watching 4-5 pictures played next to each other in a few seconds which is how i describe my gunfight

I used to tolerate the game long enough to get to Inheritor (even though I exclusively played Firefight from Forerunner to Inheritor) before the TU came out.

Then the TU came out and I tried multiplayer again. I thought it was playable and not bad. When they removed bleedthrough and Squad Slayer I started to hate the game and went back to Halo 3.

It’s all I play now. Whenever I try to play Reach, I just get annoyed by a lot of things so I don’t play it anymore.

Imagine if everyone who stopped playing Reach made a thread to inform us as such. I can only imagine the spam.

I know a prominint game with worse connection… Go play halo 3 XD

No but seriously, if you give up on reach then play halo 3… Its way more fun.

  1. You’ve apparently never played Black Ops or MW3, or Singularity, or Battlefield 3 (on console), or Super Smash Bros Brawl, the list goes on of multiplayer games that are worse than Reach. I’m not saying Reach was great by any means, but it was passable.

  2. Really? Reach’s campaign COULD have been a lot better, but imo, much of Halo 1’s campaign sucked. I love the better executed levels (Halo, or the Silent Cartographer) but the dozens of identical Forerunner corridors in AoTCR and Two Betrayals (playing through a level backwards? Really?) were an awful design decision, as were many of the bridge battles (which were badly executed). And don’t even get me started on the ship’s hallways on Truth and Reconciliation…

  3. The Fall of Reach kind of sucked, as far as books go. It was the equivalent of most action movies in that it conveyed the story well, but had awful dialogue, zero development of characters, and overall wasn’t very compelling.

Halo 3 > Reach when it comes to host selection and that’s coming from an Australia who is almost always yellowbar.

Reach’s netcode is better but it has the worst host selection of any p2p game I have ever played, consistently poor latency that makes the game unplayable.

I hope Halo 4 doesn’t use the same piss poor host selection but considering it’s built on Reach’s networking I don’t have much hope.

It’s almost as if Reach runs no quality checks at all prior to electing a host and just doles out host based on IPs and latency with no regard to insane packet loss or low bandwidth.

Its weird looking back at how good the host selection was in halo 3 compared to reach.

I haven’t played Reach properly in 2 months and I tried to come back a few days ago and it was worse than when I left the game. Only forge is able to keep my interest, and even that has suffered since minecraft came out. I’m enjoying CoD more than a Halo game for the first time and it’s weird.

Might just use what clips I have and get that vehicle montage going and end it on a good note with that. Shame really, but here’s hoping Halo 4 has more to offer.

The anniversary coop problem is only because the game tries to run both engines at the same time. That while nice offline is totally unusable online. My buddy and I who leave down the block from each other couldn’t play it online at all.

I had trouble reading your post.

I’m fine with Reach right now, and I have high expectations for Halo 4.

I just can’t decide who I’m going to pre-order from, yet.

If the connection is a problem it’s probably your own fault. Try actually changing your ISP.

  1. i think black ops is better and even though mw3 is terrible i enjoy it way more than reach as atleast i still feel like im playing cod which is the series it is part of, i play reach but it plays nothing like a halo game, played battlefield 3 on both console and pc and think they are both fun even though vehicles do my head in, i have played a lot of games in the last say 15 yrs (nearly 20 yrs old now) and halo reach is the single most worst game i have ever played and halo is my favourite series of game.

  2. halo 1 is a MUCH MUCH MUCH older game, if the game was never created and was created this yr with the same story, the levels would be different, reach is a modern game but still failed to appeal to me atleast back when i played it i enjoyed the game and after multiple playthroughs definately enjoyed the story.

  3. i have only read like 3-4 books in my life so i cant compare it to many other books however if i look at it as a book that tells a story i have an interest in, (the halo story and universe) i thought it had a much better story than the game and was dissapointed when i found out they were telling the story from a different point of view.

One point i will add, its the multiplayer tht bothers me the most by miles, the only thing that differentiated the reach campaign in terms of my experience is i played through the game once and never revisited to do a legendary run ect like i did other halos where i have played the levels many more times.

I’ve played all the Halo games and I like Reach, to be fair though I do prefer Halo 3 by a mile. I wouldn’t worry about Halo 4 at least wait till E3 when we get to look at it properly for the first time.

Did you just say mw3 and bf3 is worse than reach. Mind blown not possible population wise and quality wise.
