I wanna keep playing Infinite because I love Halo, and I really do think the gamplay has potential, but like… I just popped on to do the weekly event after putting it off all week, dreading the slog I had to log in to, and after getting nothing but challenges that I really don’t want to do, on top of it being a gamble whether they’ll actually complete or not… for the first time, I just exited the game. I had just used an xp boost, used some challenge swaps (to no success,) made progress on some challenges, even. It’s just not worth it. I’m not having fun.
I’m done suffering through this abhorrent challenge system. I’m done spawning with a plasma pistol and a ravager twelve times in a row when my challenge is to kill someone with the disruptor. I don’t want to play a free for all game, then a team slayer game, then ranked just to unlock the rest of the event challenges - hell, I don’t even want to do Fiesta. I’m just doing it because this is supposedly some limited time event or something.
I’m not doing this anymore. I can’t. Call me when forge and firefight are released and a real progression system is implemented. It still boggles my mind that the challenge system was nailed down in MCC and then totally butchered in Infinite… just… do MCC. You’ve already done it. Please.
What I really really hate about this challenge system is that it blatantly doesn’t give you game types that you need for challenges. The other day I needed Strongholds but it took over an hour for it come up in the rotation, and tonight was the same when I needed CTF or Strongholds but I predictably I kept getting TS and Oddball. It happens far too often for it to be coincidence.
In addition to what others have said, it’s very rarely about weapons, grenades, equipment, K:D ratio, or - and this one is the most important - playing the objective.
Why are challenge swaps still random? Why can’t I choose from a pool of them? Hell, why do challenge swaps exist besides to pad out the Battle Pass? Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War did this for free in 2020. And how come there’s no dailies for those who have done their weekly content, which depending on the challenges, can be aced in three days or just under seven.
I can only hope that Season One is 343i’s teething stage for this game, because this should’ve been figured out after 8(?) seasons of the Master Chief Collection. Even then, over six months is a lot of time for players to lose waiting for the management to extract their digit from their posterior.
Seriously, before you spend any time stressing over challenges, look at the weekly reward and see if you can even be bothered. This week was an AR skin that was 90% grey. The little ammo counter part was like a urine yellow. Hardly worth playing modes you don’t enjoy if you ask me.
Yes, the challenge system should be scraped, (like, not even close 343, try again), but it amazes me how many people let these challenges dictate to them how to play a pretty fun game for some measly scraps of cosmetics that very few are actually interested in. Play what you want, when you want, and how you want. Don’t let yourselves be manipulated.
