Lol All hail Halo tracker. That website has been my hero since Halo 3.
I’ve started using it since Apex Legends, I guess I was too busy doing Zoomer things. I do love me meeting Halo boomers and seeing this game shine back into mainstream. Played H3 when I was 3 y.o
Yeah I think it’s great younger kids are getting into this game. Even if I am a angry crusty old SWAT tryhard.
Speaking of stats, at one point I was playing against the very top tier of Halo reach SWAT players. That was fun. And getting some young blood into this game and seeing some new pros, is half of why I want this game to do good damn it!
Amen, brother. Amen. The things that mattered were handled well. Plus the social features (pre/post game lobbies, grouping up, map voting, career ranks/stats) were so good. By abandoning those things (and other things like the 1-50 ranking system) they’ve shown they don’t understand why Halo was as popular as it was.
Yes! Yes! 100%. Halo 4 and 5 showed that they didn’t understand Halo at all, And in my opinion they’re trying to take this back to the earlier Halo gameplay because they are basically admitting that. This game is more or less just classic Halo with the grappling hook from Doom glued to it. And I’m okay with that. Classic Halo worked because it was good. You remember the slot machine on reach? That gave people reason to participate because you lost your bonus if you quit. And getting an XP jackpot was super fun!
All of the multiplayer functionality was top-tier back then more or less, aside from occasional matchmaking hiccups, and it was industry leading. I feel like bungee Halo is half the reason first person shooters are even what they are now.
Totally! I’d love the new generation of gamers to love this game like the last one but it’s always the uninteresting titles they’re so gravitated towards. COD to name. My biggest wish for this game is for the childish input wars to come to an end.
I believe MnK is close to being even in terms of mechanics with Controller on this game. I remembered there being mouse magnetism but they took it out of the game. It was only seen in the flights but I hope they bring it back.
The controller HCS scene is cool to watch but I’d also love a MnK HCS scene too!
Yeah honestly I don’t mind both input methods being in the game. It makes it healthier. And I’m not worried about MNK players having an advantage. I’ll roll them. I have way too big of an ego to let that bother me. Lol
I don’t mind rolling controller too on MnK, it’s not too centric on aiming as mind-games is something to be utilized on that input as well but I believe that is Controller’s biggest advantage. I used to be a controller xbox kid too!
Talking about inputs just reminded me of arguing with my teammates when I was a 13-year-old kid, because they were telling me I had to learn how to snipe on 10, and I was like no dude. I play default bumper jumper. And then they were like let’s go into team snipers and see if it works then. My KDR was six above theirs. Lol
Kind of a pointless boomer story, but it just reminded me of it. Good times.
I definitely agree about the lack of win incentives and the challenges, there’s lots of problems. But I do have to say the “how dare you do things for casuals” language is real offputting, even for someone who is a veteran Halo players and plays these games a lot. Makes you seem like you take the game way too seriously.
I also have to note that visual clarity is always a good thing. It’s a computer screen; people with more expensive screens and GPUs shouldn’t have an advantage because they can see better. The game should go for maximum visual clarity in all cases, and for that reason I actually really like scope glare. Also, CoD is terrible about visual clarity, that’s one reason I prefer Halo - though this game has messed that up a bit with the armor coatings and no override for them. In CoD if someone is obscured by cover they don’t stick out, and me with my terrible eyesight, I just totally miss them.
Video games shouldn’t cater to people with better equipment, they should actively work to make it not matter what equipment you have, as far as doing well in the game. And how good your eyesight is or how photosensitive you are really shouldn’t matter either; it should be about skillful play, not happening to have good eyes for catching things on a computer screen, or for that matter just having a better screen.
It’s kind of complicated. I wasn’t even thinking about equipment when I posted that. I just feel like spotting enemies and knowing where they’re going to be is a skill. I also feel like in six previous Halo games it wasn’t an issue.
I do agree with you that equipment shouldn’t give you an edge, but that’s just the reality of gaming honestly. It’s shown that higher refresh rate monitors do give you a small advantage, it’s been studied scientifically. And also I mean… While it’s kind of cruel, Halo is a combat simulator. Being able to quickly and accurately spot threats is part of combat. Sure not every game is going to favor people with various disabilities, but that’s just reality.
I have recent ranked stories too myself, I believe I had a 30 y.o Onyx 1730 tell me to shut the door up while I’m giving info/callouts, laughing at my ingame mistakes anytime I would die, generally being an egotistical figure.
He was trying to be top fragger and barely played OBJ. In 9 of those games. I top fragged in 5 of them while he top fragged 4. He went negative in one of those 9 games while I remained a 1.0+ in all of them
He was low-med OBJ, while in some of those games, I was usually med-high OBJ. I was nicer and more talkative in VC and also the most contributive. I did all of that on MnK while he was Controller. I was D4 that day, 2 days later Onyx 1514 on crossplay.
I would LOVE to match up against him and mess him up as it’s unwarranted to talk bad about your teammates.
Dude, I can’t even believe you found someone that was talking. In 2 weeks I haven’t heard anyone say one peep at all. Good job on the solid play though. I used to laugh so hard at kids like that. Just talk talk talk, It didn’t bother me one bit. I straight up laughed at them to their face over the mic while I outperformed them. It’s fun. For sure.
It happened in a discord looking for group voice channel. Where you meet the crappiest people ever. Either performance or personality. Though, I stick around there to find sweaty friends who don’t think too highly of themselves and can live alittle while having a competitive attitude.
Oh yeah! I forgot about discord. yet another thing I’m just used to being part of in-game stuff.
In the halo that I came from talking without performing was what got you betrayed and tea bagged.
Nah, the thing was, this guy was silent ingame, not giving enough calls and anytime his teammates died infront of him. He would give them crap and fog up the actual informative comms.
It annoyed me while he did that but I never said anything as I really wanted to hit Onyx due to my lack of playtime schedule and to go back to playing socials and campaign.
I would’ve definitely talked crap to him in VC but called him out instead in DMs, calling him a piece of crap of a human being. Exposing the stuff he was doing wrong.
Yeah honestly doing it in PMs is more mature. Things aren’t like they used to be. But yeah dude, effective communication is like 75% of how me and my team used to mop people on SWAT 20 games straight. Good on you for nailing those call outs. And with a button to do it for you now there’s just no excuse not to.
Man, you sound like an awesome dude, I REALLY would love to be one of your halo pals. I’m amazing at SWAT. I currently have a 2.5+ KDR on that playlist if you’d like to queue sometime. Just add my GT and message me even when I’m offline as I’m both Mobile and PC so you can reach me out easy.
Yeah I get that it is a reality that can’t be entirely avoided; but I mean, there is a reason it’s a video game, and one of the big advantages of a video game is that you can remove some of the unfair (so to speak) advantages that some people have over others, and make winning all about strategy and skill.
I personally can’t consider it a skill if you can’t get any better at it, nor is there anything you can do about it. Skills can be honed, improved, etc. And for the record I do agree that predicting where people will be is absolutely a skill, but being able to distinguish a set of pixels from the surrounding pixels is just about natural-born eyesight and I don’t consider that a skill at all. There’s nothing anyone can do about being born with crappy eyes lol
Word dude. The devs were saying on the live stream they’re probably going to make SWAT a ranked playlist, and I definitely need some solid teammates to help me terrorize people. Lol I’m trying to get one of my buddies to play that I used to run with but he’s all into destiny 2 now. For some silly -Yoink!- reason. Once it’s ranked I’ll hit you up for sure. Probably before that too. I work like a zillion hours though, so there’s that.
