I have no idea why but its just not… fun. and the worst part is i can’t think of why this is the case… I can’t play more than a few rounds online at a time before i feel so bored i want to turn the game off. Its not that i don’t like halo, I still go back and play halo pc even today, and i played halo 3 for hours at a time… why isn’t reach the same? WHATS WRONG WITH MEEE?

the problem, i believe lies in how terrible the core game mechanics are. they all induce their own levels of frustration, across the board.
good examples of this are:
-sprint + 2x melee rewarding people who dont even attempt to shoot, and punishing players who do shoot some of the time.
-armor lock (enough said)
-jet pack removing the element of map control from halo.
-mini nuke grenades.
-people mashing their R triggers to get kills against people who actually try to pace their shots.
-people who sprint away at the slightest sign of danger or advantage on your part.
this game was specifically catered to casual players, thats why a lot of people simply cannot have that much fun playing this game.
Same here. And I love Halo.
To me, the reasons I came up with ater thinking about it was;
Imbalanced weapons, AAs, slower movement and jump height, Credits, Menu music and art… basically everything.
Maybe you realized Real Halo games> Halo spin-offs?
I quit Reach a long time ago and went back to Halo 3 and having alot of fun.
Bloom. Oh how I detest thee.
This is how I feel too. I for one blame AAs and the maps especially. Hopefully 343’s plans to update the game will make it more fun for you.
343, you know what to do! Can’t wait for your plans!
I know what it is:
-Armor Lock is frustrating. Every time I see someone use it, I just get frustrating. I can deal with it, but its frustrating, and I swear I groan out loud when I see an entire team using it. It’s ANNOYING.
-Bloom. I’ll abuse the bloom system to no end: Just spam it up with the DMR at longer-range when the other guy is trying to time his shots. I got better at Reach recently by learning how to abuse the bloom system. It’s ridiculous, and there are times when I realize that I just won a fight I shouldn’t have, and never would in Halo 3.
-It’s EASY compared to Halo 3/2/1. I went back to Halo 3, I got my -Yoink- kicked. Without bloom and armor abilities…The game is SO much harder. I mean I was getting out-BR’d consistently, and I just couldn’t keep up without being able to Sprint away, throw nuke-nades, or abuse bloom to get that fake upper hand. Just goes to show how much Halo Reach has NOT improved my Halo skills, but instead has been detrimental to them. I got used to a flawed system, so when I go back to that core gameplay…I suck!
-It doesn’t FEEL like a Halo game. The combat is slower. The kill times are slower. People are using AAs everywhere. The weapons don’t seem powerful or fun…It’s just not quite right.
I mean I can play Reach for a while…But I can’t get into it like I could Halo 3 or Halo 2. Heck, I think I can spend more time playing CoDBlops than I can Reach at this point.
I hadn’t played Reach for about 3 months until a few days ago. I had exactly the same feeling as you. I’ve loved Halo since my first experience with Halo 3, and I was super excited for Reach and loved the beta. I found myself getting bored and frustrated with the game for no apparent reason back in February.
Armour lock is something I definitely hate, but beyond that I’m not sure why I quit! Maybe the fact that the ranks take way long to progress through annoyed me.
I’ve been having fun playing for the past few days, but I only play playlists short on AA, like SWAT or the Arena. I have a feeling I’ll probably switch back to another game, but I’m having fun with Reach right now.

There’s too many good games coming out this holiday (MW3, BF3, ME3, Skyrim…To name a few)for Reach to hold my attention. I really hope that they do something between then and now to fix Reach and bring that Halo feel back to the game…So I can enjoy playing me some Halo!

No ME3 this holiday unfortunately. At least it gives me time to play Skyrim!
Yep I hope they do something to help bring more people back to Reach and keep me.
Teh puma can’t play the games multiplayer for very long either. Though, unlike you, he knows his reasons. He will put it simply as he dislikes the gameplay mechanics in reach…VERY much.
> Maybe you realized Real Halo games> Halo spin-offs?
Why is reach not considered a real halo game? because it doesn’t have master chief?
Well, for those hoping for changes to reach; you can expect playlists updates now and then, but bungie said in a WU that they are not doing any major changes to the game.
So sad… Teh puma desperatly hopes 343 does not go with the same mechanics/ideas as reach. Halo was fine the way it was. It didn’t need many of the things reach came with. Teh puma finds going back to previous halos as a breath of fresh air after playing 2 rounds of reach’s MM.

Aw man I keep forgetting =P.
But yeah there’s a lot of good games coming out, and I really don’t think Reach -in its current state- can hold up to the competition.

Actually, many think of it as not being a “true halo” because the gameplay from previous games were nearly obliterated, and replaced with what reach gave. The “Halo gameplay-triangle”, or whatever you want to call it, was turned into some wierd shape that has never been seen by man.

Teh puma likes to talk in third person? Teh puma. . . teach me your wisdom
It’s a Shlonakagon!
It’s because player’s aren’t rewarded for being good, so results from one’s actions are inconsistent. It’s very frustrating to try and play a game where you really can’t improve because gimmicky gameplay mechanics allow beginners to easily compete with veterans.

Soooo… armor abilities?
Anyway, I agree with everything you said.
