Considering that in Gears of War and Battlefield 3, team mates are unable to steal your kill mid way through the animation, I see no reason Halo 4 should not follow suit.
I agree completely here, Yoinks outside of FFA game types are generally just the sign of a -Yoink- looking for more kills.
Sure, they can happen by accident. However, when your team mate looks at you and runs in and melees the guy you’re assassinating, that’s a blatantly stolen kill.
I hate when I save someone’s life with an assassination and they yoink it. That’s the worst. Next time I’ll wait until you die so you can’t steal it.
“Oh look! The Flag score is right there! I’m so close to scoring and winning this game! Oh wait a second…”
- Drops Flag, aims DMR, pulls trigger
“Yoink!”
“Mwahahahahahahahaha!!”
“Flag Captured. Game Over.”
I’ve had this happen to me, more times than it should. And that shouldn’t happen.
However, I understand why Yoinks are in the game, and while I get upset about them, I can’t blame for my teammates for:
- Getting a kill
- Getting a medal
- And most importantly, hearing “Yoink!”
I expect they are back. They should definitely be in FFA (though that kinda discourages assassinations in Infection). And for some reason, I want them to be in Teams, for some odd reason.
Ugh…this topic again? lol
I’ll just say that Yoinks belong in the game, because you know the risk involved before doing an assassination. You don’t have to do them, you can just back smack, and secure your kill if the point means that much to you. I don’t believe in “kill stealing”, because only 1 person can actually kill someone. If I fire 6 shots into someone, and someone else fires 1 to kill him, they killed them, not me. You can’t steal something that hasn’t been done.
If you don’t like Yoinks, don’t do the assassinations around your teammates if you are playing with someone who might kill them first. As long as it’s a choice to do them, the Yoinks should remain in the game in my opinion.
Personally, I think they’re funny. I don’t get mad when someone Yoinks my assassination, especially if I did it right in front of them. It’s all in good fun. It’s just a point, and it all goes to the same team if you are in a team game. Arguing over who gets the points is poor teamwork to begin with. The best teams are the ones who assist each other and don’t worry about who gets the kill, as long as it’s gotten.
They were introduced together(assassinations and Yoinks), with a risk reward type of system. This should remain in-tact.
This is my opinion, you do not have to agree.
There should be a PSA about Beat Downs and Assassinations.
because not one Halo player seems to know the appropriate time to use each one…
I never try to assassinate, but my controller is a bit sticky and more often than not it ends up assassinating them even if I just try to smack. I wish I could choose to disable assassinations.
I played Halo 4 last night at the IGN Black Beta in Sydney. I saw my friend yoink someone’s assassination but it doesn’t look like the announcer says anything anymore and you may not get a medal anymore either (I wasn’t watching his medals though).
So yeah, they’re in, but you don’t seem to be rewarded with anything like in Reach. Still won’t stop people from stealing your kill though.

Beat Downs - When you are in a fire-fight, engaged in combat with multiple enemies, or are in any scenario where there’s potential to be killed during the process.
Assassinations - When you are completely alone, nobody on your radar, and you’ve sneaked up on someone who is unaware of your presence. With little to no chance of being Showstopped or Yoinked, usually in an enclosed area away from snipers or grenades etc.
I wouldn’t say not one Halo player…it’s just people love to see the animations and feel cool, so they just go for it as a way of showing off to a degree. Which is why Yoinks and Showstoppers are present. It’s risk/reward. You want to look cool? You put yourself in danger taking longer than necessary. They each have their own medal for that reason as well.
how do people have a problem with a person on the other team dieing?
> how do people have a problem with a person on the other team dieing?
If you are saying how could people have a problem with Yoinking? It’s usually just because people feel entitled to “kills” and put too much emphasis on points. Shouldn’t mater in a team environment, who gets what. Doesn’t make sense to me. Yet it’s constantly seen of people yelling “you stole my kill!” and getting upset.
> how do people have a problem with a person on the other team dieing?
That’s not the problem. At all.
It’s like when you stick someone with a Plasma Grenade, just for a teammate to kill the person you stuck.
Another thing, under your logic. A player stuck by a sticky should be invincible for the time until the player dies.
I’ve stolen (accidentally) a lot of kills with a sword while the enemy was stuck.

I don’t mean they should be invincible. I was just giving a situation/example. IMO, an Assassination and a stick is totally different.
But same here for accidental kill steals

That’s brilliant, actually.
There NEEDS to be an option like “hold [button] to assassinate: ON / OFF” in the main menu along with the controls. I’d turn it off and leave it. I try to tap it sometimes, but it I’m so in-the-moment that I forget to tap and hold it instead and BOOM, results in a potential death. I like doing them every now and again if I’m playing a team that is obviously not as good, or playing against friends, but more often than not I’d rather just leave them off.
I want Yoinks to return. I love stealing ppls kills and them flipping with harsh msgs. Better than the armor lock. Makes me laugh hysterically.

This.

Me too. I never intentionally Yoink a teammate. But in FFA I always do. You should fully expect to be Yoinked in FFA.
Yoinks are important because they can save your friend’s life.
Assassinations are a huge risk, and if you do it at the wrong time, the only person who can save you is your friend.
HOWEVER:
In the event a player gets a yoink in a TEAM GAME, the Assassinating player should STILL be provided with the Assassination Medal, and the “Kill” points. The “Yoink” medal should be replaced with the “Assassination Assist” medal.
But in FFA, Yoinks should remain Yoinks, and you should get the kill for Yoinking.
To be completely honest, I don’t give a damn about scoring kills. I play the game to have fun. So if someone steals my kill, big deal. I laugh, say Nice Shot, and continue on my way to the next poor soul who happens to cross my path. I like Assassinations, especially the new ones. I try to go for them as often as possible, because again, I don’t mind getting my kill stolen, or being killed in the process. I know a few people who get really worked up over getting their kills stolen. My one friend always threw a fit if someone stole his kill. I think he actually broke a controller. He’s the more competitive type. Every kill matters and its his kill if he shot the person first. I just sigh and continue playing.
